Jason Liu didn't even pay attention to the so-called 'lowest price' the agent mentioned. He just looked around the living room and liked the way this villa was decorated.
Of course, he liked it! Compared to the tiny place he was living in now, this villa was a hundred times more luxurious and comfortable.
"Alright, I'll rent it!" Without any hesitation, he agreed to sign the contract.
The agent was surprised to meet such a straightforward client. He quickly took out the warehouse lease and villa lease contracts that his colleagues had brought.
After signing the contracts and making the payment, Jason Liu swiped his bank card for 220,000. Now, he had the warehouse for six months and the villa for three months.
The agent was thrilled with the generous commission. Wanting to stay on good terms with this wealthy client, he offered to arrange a cleaning company to clean the entire villa for free.
Jason Liu gladly accepted this offer.
The agent drove him back to his rental apartment, and Jason Liu quickly packed up some clothes. He called his landlord to check out.
The landlord returned one month's deposit, but the rent for the remaining month wasn't refunded. Jason Liu didn't mind this. He grabbed his bag and rode the little electric scooter that had been with him for over two years to Villa 7 in the Forest Peninsula.
Even with no traffic, it took him more than an hour to reach the villa. The security guard had already been informed that Jason was the new resident, so he entered without needing to register.
When he arrived at Villa No. 7, the cleaning company the agent had contacted was already busy cleaning the villa.
Jason Liu put his backpack down, then took a taxi to a nearby mall to buy a new quilt. As for kitchen utensils, he didn't bother since he didn't know how to cook—he'd just order takeout.
Once the villa was cleaned, the cleaning company left.
Jason Liu sat in the luxurious and spacious living room, feeling a bit lost for a moment as he looked at the beautiful décor. Not long ago, he was working hard just to save up for a house and car. Now, it all seemed within reach.
Knowing how he got here, Jason Liu felt motivated. He quickly grabbed a simple lunch and headed back to Westeros with his backpack.
Returning to his shop in the winter town market, Jason moved 800 bars of soap, 100 blocks of soap, and 7,000 sheets of A4 paper to the store on the first floor, ready to continue selling in the afternoon.
The A4 paper priced at 10 bronze stars wasn't selling well because it was too expensive. He decided to cut the price to 5 bronze stars. After all, paper is a common product, not a luxury.
Even at 5 bronze stars, he'd still make a profit of 100 times the cost, so it was still a great deal.
The last time he sold soap for 50 bronze stars, he planned to sell it for one silver stag now. After all, soap was meant for the wealthy and noble of Westeros, so it made sense for it to be pricey.
While Jason was busy in the shop, he suddenly heard the miserable cries of a baby, the sad wailing of a woman, and the noise of a crowd coming from the house next door.
Feeling curious, Jason decided to check it out. He could hear the baby's cries and the woman's sobs, which sounded so heartbreaking that he couldn't help but feel sad.
Stepping out, he saw a crowd gathered outside his neighbor's house. It wasn't just onlookers; these were men and women who lived in the market town. There was sympathy and sadness on their faces, and some women were even crying quietly. The men looked equally sorrowful and helpless.
Jason pushed his way through the crowd, and they moved aside to let him through. Inside, he saw a pale-faced woman holding a crying baby, her rough hands gently soothing the child. But the baby's face was unnaturally red, and its cries were growing hoarse, like something was stuck in its throat.
Beside her, a boy about 5 or 6 years old stood with a scared look on his face, holding a young girl's hand. Their dirty faces and wide, frightened eyes showed just how scared and confused they were.
The young girl, dressed in ragged clothes, was also crying, hugging the boy tightly. She watched the sick baby, tears streaming down her face.
The room was filled with an atmosphere of sadness.
"Martha, you must understand, this is the will of the old gods. Even Maester Luwin couldn't help. We should give the poor child some milk of the poppy to ease her pain…" said an old man named Rhodes, with a face full of wrinkles. He looked sadly at the baby and tried to comfort the woman.
From the whispers around him, Jason understood what had happened. The woman, named Martha, was the nursemaid of young Rickon from Winterfell. Her daughter had been running a high fever for days and wasn't getting better, even after Maester Luwin gave her medicine.
In this era, where medical knowledge was very limited, a sickness that even Maester Luwin couldn't cure meant almost certain death.
Seeing the crying baby in her arms, Jason Liu, though he had no real attachment to the people of Westeros, couldn't help but feel pity. It was, after all, a tiny life.
He felt he had to do something.
With a determined expression, Jason stepped forward.
Old Rhodes noticed him and looked up in surprise. "Lord East, what brings you here?"
Jason Liu hesitated before saying, "Well, besides selling goods from the Far East, I've also brought some medicine. Maybe—just maybe—I can help this poor baby girl."
"Is that true?" Old Rhodes's eyes widened in excitement, and the redness on his big nose deepened even more.
