Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

"Don't be disappointed, Adam~ Although you can't use the Clow cards, the Philosopher's Stone grants you enough magic power to carry the Sealed Book and Sealed Staff with you~"

Mark, who had finally acquired a physical body, rolled on the ground, stretching his paws over his belly as he comforted Adam.

"Let me teach you the magic of storing the Sealed Book and Staff~ That way, you can summon the Clow cards whenever you need them!"

After explaining, Mark squatted down and began straightening the feathers on his wings, which had gotten a bit messy from rolling around.

"This is a type of sealing magic, and it's not easy. But thanks to your contract with the Sealed Book and Staff, it should be simpler for you to perform it. Before you go to school, you must—"

Before Mark could finish, he noticed a complex magic circle flash on Adam's right hand. The Sealed Staff instantly vanished from Adam's grip. Moments later, a similar circle appeared on Adam's left hand, this time causing the Sealed Book to disappear as well. Mark fell into stunned silence.

"It seems you have a natural talent for magic."

Lying on the bed, Sibi resembled an elegant black panther, with a pair of butterfly wings gently fluttering behind her.

"If that's the case, you should be able to master all the Clow card magic fairly quickly."

"I'll do my best."

Adam repeated the process of summoning and storing the book and staff several times. Once he became comfortable with it, an idea struck him.

"Could I store my wand this way too?"

His wand was sixteen inches long—too cumbersome to carry around all the time. If he could store it away using this magic...

"It should be possible, but I'm not entirely sure," Sibi said, closing the book in front of her. She hopped off the bed and playfully smacked Mark on the head.

"I've looked through your textbook, and this magic system feels a little... odd. Then again, it might just be that I'm not familiar enough with Western magic."

"Ouch~"

Mark grimaced at Sibi, then opened Adam's textbook and started flipping through it.

"Let me see what this little first-grade book is about... Huh?"

The vertical lines in Mark's pupils turned into circles as he skimmed through several more pages.

"No way... Is this really magic? Where's the magic circle? What's the underlying principle?"

After reading through the entirety of *Standard Spells: Elementary*, Mark had to admit he'd hit a blind spot.

"You just wave your wand in a certain arc and say some words? This isn't magic at all!"

Mark stared at the book in disbelief, as though it were some kind of heretical text.

"Isn't it magic?" Adam asked, puzzled. "It looks magical to me."

Having successfully stored his wand, Adam now held the book, eager to try casting a spell himself. He remembered that Hermione had learned to fix things at home and figured that, since he had good magical talent, he should be able to learn a few spells too.

"Magic may look magical, but it's actually quite precise. Sometimes it seems like a wizard is just waving their hand, but in reality, they're performing a complex set of operations to cast the spell." Sibi held three books: *Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration*, *Intermediate Transfiguration*, and *Advanced Transfiguration Guide*. She opened each one to a specific page and pointed them out to Adam with her furry fingers.

"Transforming objects, making them disappear, and permanently transforming them belong to entirely different fields of magic. The first is transfiguration, the second is spatial magic, and the last one falls under alchemy. Permanent transformation is impossible—it can't be sustained after the caster dies, unless there's another source of magic power."

Sibi looked up at Adam seriously.

"Whether it's how the magic is classified or how it works, this all seems as though people who had no real understanding of magic saw wizards casting spells and just assumed that waving a wand and saying a few words was all it took. The way these spells are categorized also feels arbitrary."

"Even more importantly," she continued, "this is a textbook, which means the spellcasting process should be clearly explained in detail. But I can't find any mention of magic circles... Unless they plan to teach that later, I have reason to believe we're not in the world we originally came from."

At first, Adam listened with great seriousness, his heart racing. But as Sibi kept talking, he suddenly remembered—they weren't in their original world anymore.

"Maybe we really have landed in another world..." Adam muttered under his breath.

"Here, wizards' magical abilities come from interbreeding with magical creatures, not from their own study and research. That's probably why their spellcasting and classification seem so... primitive."

The more Adam thought about it, the more he felt this theory was plausible. After all, Clow card magic still worked in this world, proving that magic circles were valid here. In comparison, the wizards' way of casting spells did seem a bit crude.

"Is that really the explanation? It makes sense though... If wizards' abilities come from instinctive magical bloodlines, they probably don't need a deep understanding of magic principles."

"That sounds kind of disturbing!" Sibi exclaimed, visibly unsettled. It dawned on her that, by this world's standards, they themselves could be classified as magical creatures.

"Wait, what? We're not in our original world anymore?" Mark gasped, his golden fur bristling in alarm.

"And what about my cake?! Adam, do you have cake here?"

"Yeah, we do," Adam replied with a nod. "There are plenty of sweets... Oh, and the wizarding world here has its own unique treats."

At that, Adam handed Mark a piece of fizzing honey candy.

Mark immediately shrank down into a tiny, energy-saving mode, holding the candy—almost as big as his head—and licking it with delight.

"Wow! This honey is amazing! I've never tasted anything like this before! This world is fantastic!"

"It's probably made from the honey of some magical plant," Adam said, offering another piece to Sibi. She hesitated at first but quickly shrank down and began nibbling on it, soon rolling around on the bed like a cat on catnip.

Watching the two of them, Adam crossed his legs and lifted both onto his knees. Picking up *Standard Spells: Elementary*, he started to read.

First things first: learn to repair things before school starts.

Even if wizards cast spells using their innate abilities, it was still simpler than the complex magic circle spells. And there was no need to fully grasp the principles right away.

For now, mastering the local magic system would suffice, and later, Adam could delve deeper into the theory.

As he stroked Mark's head and wings and gently pinched Sibi's paws and tail, Adam's focus drifted toward the fascinating world of wizardry laid out in the pages before him.
