Chapter 8 - War Camp

After doing what he should've done he waited for his father at the village entrance and after about one hour they departed together.

They were assigned to the Kumogakure Camp, so they headed to the frontier of the Land of Fire in the direction of the Land of Lightning.

After three days of journey they finally reached the Camp, they were quickly assigned to their squad's tent and started unpacking their things to have a much deserved rest after a high intensity journey.

After reaching the Camp they didn't interact with the Commander, the only thing he knew is that Orochimaru was their Commander, he received his orders directly from their Captain, a Jonin.

Time passed and they started operating, from long term scout missions to guarding supplies, they did almost everything without much rest, the amount of battles he participates isn't much compared to his pairs, it seems they are safeguarding him due to his extremely young age.

But naturally, some fishes are bound to escape through the net, he battled against 4 Genin and 2 Chunnin on the first month, 4 Chunnin and 3 Genin in the second, 8 Chunnin and 1 Genin in the third, it seems that his squad started to trust him more and more after working together for a long time.

In those few months, he acquired some jutsus from his kind companions and extorting enemies.

All this time he spent in the battlefield squeezed the potential out of his body, of course this took a toll on his body and probably would shrink his potential, but this was a simulation anyways, he would only receive the strength after leaving, not the toll, so he didn't care.

The current state of the war only allowed small fights, according to his past simulation, an all out war would only break out at June, so there was still some time left, approximately one month until things got really dangerous.

'I'm really in need of strength, but I can't do anything, things don't work that way, I can't just awake a Rinnegan out of nowhere and start blasting everything pretending to be Madara'

'What i need to do right now is accumulate strength, slowly but steadily, as i have always done'

So he continued this hellish routine of battling and coming back of death's door every single day, while the blood of his enemies tormented his dreams.

Three out of nine of his original companions had alredy died, refilled by two of other disbanded squads and one graduate of the Academy that is bound to die soon.

His father almost died two times alredy, he honestly didn't know how his father managed to hold on until August before dying, this really sucks for the weaker ones like him, when he read it in his past life it looked so easy, the main character always had an omnipotent power that destroyed everyone with ease, but here he was like a fucking maggot trying to crawl out of the reaper's scythe frequently.

The only thing that prevented him from going crazy is the fact that he is simulating and wouldn't really die, but sometimes he forgets that for entire days before remembering.

...

Today something horrible happened, a Jonin ambushed his team while they slept outside, the one at night watch died before even noticing, a Jonin's stealth abilities aren't a thing to be looked down upon, he regretted not having watched the entire night, his detection range improved to 500 meters in the pressure of the battlefield and probably only he could detect an enemy of this caliber before being too late.

Seven out of nine people died, his father protected him with his life until he woke up and is seriously injured, the only thing that saved them was that they bumped into another Konoha squad while trying to escape and managed to get out of death's door for now.

But his father's condition isn't good, he doesn't know if Kirugi will manage to hold on until they reach the main Camp.

In this moment he deeply regretted not having learned medical ninjutsu earlier on...

After two hours of high speed travel he managed to bring his father to the Main Camp, while putting him on the stretcher carefully he asked to the busy nurse.

"Will he be able to hold on?"

"His pulse is extremely weak, two concussions and three severe injuries, i honestly don't know he managed to hold on, how much time passed since the injury?", asked the nurse

"Two hours", answered Akira

"Well, not good nor bad, i think we can try something, go outside the tent and you can come to check the situation six hours from now"

While heading out he started pondering deeply about a question he always asked himself since the start of last year.

'Why am i so worried?, this is only a simulation, isn't it?, even if he dies he will not really die, this is just temporary... so why am i still like this?'

'This doesn't look like a simulation at all, is this perhaps something like a different timeline? or is it like Izanagi, that transforms reality into illusion after i die but on a global scale?'

While meditating on this question in his heart, he spent hours and hours regurgitating, synthesizing, analyzing and comparing ideas, until he came to a conclusion.

'It doesn't matter if it's a simulation or not, reality is nothing more than an illusion that our brain creates based on memories and stimuli that is collected through our senses, if that's the case why bothering differentiating?'

'Everyone here is alive, they are still the same, pain is still pain and love is still love, i shouldn't treat they just as mere holograms'

Thinking that way, he entered the tent quietly, and after the nurse finished what she was doing, he asked.

"How is he doing?"

"Fortunately we managed to save him, the concussions were on very unimportant parts of the brain and will naturally heal by themselves, but he will not be able to battle for a long time, at minimum 8 months and at maximum 2 years for it to heal completely"

"Thank god", Akira sighed looking relieved

He naturally doesn't care about this inconvenient, or rather convenient since his father wouldn't need to risk his life for longer, eight months is more than enough for the war to end.
