Chapter 2 - The Stranger

Two Years Later

The world felt both intimate and vast, the city alive yet shrouded by mystery and in that moment, I found solace in the storm, my thoughts swirling like the clouds above. Standing on the balcony, I watched as the rain fell unceasingly into the night, each drop a reminder of my isolation. The loneliness inside my heart was nothing new which was accompanied by too many unanswered questions revolving around my life. Who was I? Where did I come from? Did I have a family out there? Did they ever look for me?

I was still lost in the beauty of the night when a sudden sound brought me back to reality. It was not just any sound, but someone was trying to break into my hotel room. The first thought was to hide but then, I was not one run from danger. I had encountered greater problems and was now running away from them. The reason: I was tired of bloodshed and that was why I had come to this new town for a breather. I would just knock the person off and call the cops for them, so I thought and left for the door.

Slowly and warily, I tiptoed and was just a few steps away and the sound grew loud as if the person outside had punch it. I could hear groans and curses from outside and from the sound of it, it was a man. I grabbed a vase that was nearby before heading for the lock. With a fast, swift move, I opened it only to meet with a punch coming my way. Luckily, I reacted quickly and moved aside, and the hand ended up crashing the flower vase on my hand into pieces.

Furiously, I dropped the last piece of glass on my hand before turning to the intruder ready to give him a piece of mind or worse crimple him.

"Do you have a death..." My words melted away midway when I met a man's gaze, hauntingly yet somehow familiar stare

Under the dimly lit pathway, his face emitted a certain brightness despite the dark look on his face. His eyes were staring at me with an unfathomable gaze, but I could still make out the curiosity and confusion in them. His breath was a bit haggard, but it just made him more charming with his throat rhythmically moving up and down. My eyes dropped down to his chest. He had a white shirt, the top two buttons opened exposing a bit of his skin. Very hot and sexy, was the first thought in my mind despite the man being a total stranger. How much more shameless could I be? I shifted to his lower stomach but only to be met with a shock.

"What the fudge! Is that..." I could not complete the sentence when the man unceremoniously walked in pushing me aside. That was not what bothered me but his shirt that was full of blood, precisely his abdomen.

Before locking the door, I surveyed the hallway to check if there were more intruders but to my relief it was empty. I headed back inside ready to get answers from him, but my words melted away with the scene that met my immodest eyes.

The man taken off his shirt exposing his upper body. Guess I was not the only 'open-minded' being in this world. I could hear bells ringing in my head alerting me not to get carried away, but I was already flying to another world of fantasy. The man was a sight to feast on. His bare chest was a canvas of strength and seduction, each contour softly illuminated by the light in the room. Muscles ripped beneath his skin, hinting at both power and grace, while his wet hair, probably from the rain, trailed a path down to his neck, adding an element of wildness to his allure. For a long time, I had thought I was over this over obsession with handsome guys but now, I fell miserably before this Greek god.

"Who are you?" His voice sent shivers down my spine and a knot formed in my stomach. My head was already spinning as the echoes of his bewitching voice rang in my head continuously, then I realized he was talking to me.

I cleared my throat and took a deep breath staring everywhere else but him. "Mr. man, this is my place so, I think that should be my line. Who are you?"

The man's expression did not change much and rather he sat down on my couch staining it with the blood dripping from his lower abdomen.

"I'll be spending the night here," for sure his absurd answer did not explain my question but made my lowered guards rise up. It was not every day strangers barged into my house to spend a night.

"And what's that supposed to mean?" I raised my brow with gritted teeth. "You just pushed your way into my house to spend a night? Who does that. I don't even know you in the first place and from the look of things, I can clearly see you have a gunshot wound. Are you a fugitive? A wanted criminal or maybe a mafia boss? Wait don't tell me you..."

"You talk too much for a woman," the man stated looking around the room before his eyes landed on something. Wait, he was staring at My room!

"Are you being serious?" I almost shouted gazing at him bewildered.

He just stood up ignoring me as if I was just talking to myself. With steady slow steps, he started walking towards my bedroom.

When he was a few steps away from the door, I was already standing before him blocking his way with my hand on his... shit! On his damn hard chest!

'Focus! Focus!' I screamed to myself inwardly and that seemed to work just a little bit.

"What now?" The man's voice resonated in my ears, and I could swear my heart missed a beat, but I regained my composure immediately.

"What do you think you are doing?" With my hand still on his bare skin, I murmured but loud enough for him to hear.

The man eyed me irritated before holding my wrist and removed my hand on him then pushed me aside.

"Am already being kind. Stay in your limit, Miss." With that, he entered my room and locked it before I could even follow.

I stood frozen on the ground with my mouth slightly open in shock. In a minute, the shock was replaced by a sour feeling, then bitterness before it turned to anger.

"How dare he!" I bit my lip to stop myself from breaking down the door. "Venna, just calm down. He isn't worth your anger."

Full of dissatisfaction and anger, I walked back to the couch before glancing at the blood on it. And just like that, I had to spend the night on the balcony, in my own rented room.

"I want to kill someone now!"
