"Hey! Why are you ignoring me? I said I'll pay you back but for that I need to go out. Why won't you let me leave?" All Ravenna received was a cold silence while he continued typing on his laptop. "I'll only look for a job and come back on... You! Where are you going? Alaric! Stop there!"
Her voice echoed in the living room as she followed behind Alaric who suddenly took an abrupt stop hearing her shout his name. It was the first time she called him and he somehow liked it but still, he was not going to give in to her demand.
"Should I allow you to roam outside and cause me trouble?"
Ravenna scoffed as she stood in front of him, blocking his way to the lift. Taking a deep breath, she calmly looked at him with a fake smile.
"I won't. Please try to understand, only if I get myself a job can I pay you back."
"I don't trust you. What's your real motive for demanding to go out?" Alaric narrowed his eyes watching any slight change on her. With his sharp eagle like sight, he could clearly detect surprise and he understood his suspicion was not wrong. She was up to something.
Ravenna really wanted to ask him if he could read through her mind. How could he tell she had other plans just by looking at her? Had her acting dropped that bad? Being the best assassin, this was a disgrace she would never want her mates to get a word of.
She cleared her throat before replying, "I... know someone who can help me pay your screen back. I promise it won't take long."
"Are you lying again? How could you possibly know someone here when you have never been to the city before?"
By the time Alaric completed his question, Ravenna's mouth had formed an 'O' in awe. 'Wow! This Dumbo can actually speak more than ten words? I guess my charm is quite strong.' She giggled inwardly but returned to reality when she felt a sharp gaze directed on her. "I really do know someone. He used to visit me in the camp but actually lives in City X."
"He?" Alaric's expression turned uglier. "No."
"Why? Am sure he will..."
"If you want to visit your boyfriend do it when you are not under my watch." His voice was freezing cold making Ravenna shudder under his scorching hot and scary eyes.
"Boyfriend?... Aah! Whatever. But what about your broken..."
"You still have to pay. And did I tell it costs a hundred and fifty thousand... dollars?" The wicked smile on his face made him even more charming.
If it was some time before, Ravenna would have definitely been enchanted by his bewitching face and lips but the number he had just uttered left her dumbfounded. Where could she get that kind of money? It was just a screen for fucks sake but cost fortune?
"The breakfast is ready, Sir, Miss Ravenna," Luke's voice came in bringing back Ravenna out of the shock.
Silently, she passed through Alaric and went to the dining table. Maybe she was just hungry and hearing her own things. Only when her stomach was filled up could she think clearly. With that, she focused on the delicacies on the table.
"Woah! Cutie pie, how did you know all my favourites? You surely are the best."
Alaric was about to enter the lift when he heard her chirpy voice. Turning around, his eyes went a little wide with the scene he was met with. She was stuffing food in her mouth while praising his housekeeper as well as chef whom she would not allow to leave, with her continuous nagging. She was such a strange creature. A moment ago, he almost felt pity for her but watching her now, it seemed as if nothing had happened but just a bad dream. Was she really that ignorant or she was trying to distract herself with food, he thought before walking back towards them.
Ravenna was just too hungry to pay attention to the man who was now sitting opposite her. She had never had such delicious food in the camp. Though it was not that bad, but this one was just too good.
"This is the only thing I love this big city," she murmured a bit loudly taking a bite on a sausage. "And you too cutie pie, I love you as much as I love the..."
A bang on the table drew the attention of Ravenna and Luke, as they both stared at Alaric's hand which had done the did. Ravenna blinked at him before taking another bite on the sausage, before giving him a questioning gaze.
Alaric spared her a short glance before turning to Luke. If looks could kill, poor Luke would have been buried ten feet under the ground. "Get me a glass of special wine." With that, Luke sprang from the area sweating profusely. Things were not going to be easy for him until Ravenna was around.
"And you, keep a distance from my worker." Alaric turned to Ravenna who was too busy eating to care about anything else. After all, nothing else mattered to her at the moment.
"Don't be too bossy, I like..." Her mouth was full, both her cheeks stuffed as she replied.
"Stay away!" Alaric was beginning to get annoyed with her nonchalant behaviour. His only explanation was she was playing hard to get.
"And if I don't?" She replied unconsciously her full attention on the steaming hot chicken soup.
"I'll lock you up in the mansion with nowhere else to go." His answer was firm and Ravenna knew he was not joking.
She put the bowl of soup on the table before wiping her mouth and hands with a hand towel, then drank a glass of juice in one go.
"Though I don't like it, I won't mind since..." glancing at the kitchen, "cutie pie will be here with me all day." Ravenna applauded herself inwardly glancing at the man whose face grew darker due to her words. She guessed this would work since he warned her to keep off Luke. So, if he really minded, he would not leave her in the mansion alone with Luke.
"Are you playing smart with me?" She only replied with a meek smile. "Fine then. You can go out... but on one condition."
Ravenna was already smiling but her happiness was short-lived with his last statement. She had a feeling whatever the condition was would not be in her favour.
"What's that?"
Alaric leaned closer across the table gazing at her with a knowing smile. "You will have to work as my personal assistant in my company."
