Chapter 99 - Chapter 99: Parting in Life and Death

[Sorry! Dr. Wen is so gentle with Heizi, sob sob sob!]

[So, Dr. Wen, you mean that the patient is currently undergoing treatment, right? Does that mean he will be fine once he wakes up? But how long will that take?]

[Agree with the person above, if this time lasts a lifetime, wouldn't that be deceit? Just a passerby, don't scold!]

Psychologist Wen Ying V replied to the previous post: Don't worry, it won't take more than a week.

"Alright! We, the bystanders, will give Dr. Wen a week. After all, it's a matter of life and death. If the person doesn't wake up within a week, Dr. Wen will have to take responsibility for his actions."

Psychologist Wen Ying V: Okay.

[Dr. Wen is still the same Dr. Wen, incredibly confident. I'm on Dr. Wen's side!]

[We fireflies all believe in Dr. Wen! We look forward to the day when our fellow patient, Youran Pinming, wakes up.]

Having resolved the matter, Wen Ying turned off her phone.

In the evening, Aunt Zhang brought two dishes and a soup to the hospital.

Chicken soup, braised prawns, and stir-fried baby bok choy.

During dinner, Wen Ying suddenly asked Aunt Zhang, "Auntie, have you been the one staying with me at the hospital these past few nights?"

Aunt Zhang suddenly lowered her head, seeming a bit shy.

"Don't mention it, it's nothing major. Now that you're awake today, I won't stay tonight. Call me if you need anything."

After Wen Ying finished eating, Aunt Zhang left with the lunchbox.

Hearing the fireflies, she got out of bed, intending to take a walk around the hospital.

Behind the inpatient department is a large courtyard, along with a wooden bridge and two small pavilions, with flowing water below.

Hospitalized patients often come here for a walk, to take in the scenery outside, and feel a bit more at ease.

Wen Ying wore a hospital gown, her hair casually tied up, and found her ballpoint pen at the head of the bed, which she then tucked into her bun.

After going downstairs, she wandered around the courtyard twice, walked onto the wooden bridge, and sat in the small pavilion, taking in the scenery.

A child was running back and forth on the bridge, and with their bald head, Wen Ying couldn't tell if it was a boy or a girl.

The child suddenly ran towards Wen Ying, staring at her with bright eyes, "Sister, you are the most beautiful patient sister I have ever seen."

Wen Ying touched her pocket and found a lollipop she didn't know was there, then handed it to the child.

"Why did you cut all your hair?"

"Daddy and Mommy said my hair was sick and needed to be cut off so new hair could grow, otherwise they would die." When the little girl said this, her tone suddenly changed, "Actually, I know it's because I'm sick and have to cut my hair. But I don't want Daddy and Mommy to be sad, so I pretend not to know."

"Sister, do you think I'm a little grown-up?"

Wen Ying suddenly froze.

"Sister, the lollipop is really delicious. I haven't had a lollipop in a long time. Mom wanted to buy it for me, but I didn't agree. Do you know why, sister?"

"Why?"

"Because we have no money left at home. Yesterday, I heard Mom and Dad arguing, and then they hugged each other and cried. I know they borrowed a lot of money, more than the cost of a big house, to pay for my medical treatment."

"Sister, am I very well-behaved?"

"Yes, Xiaochao is the most sensible child."

"Big sister, do you know my name?" The little girl looked at Wen Ying with shining eyes. "Big sister knows Zhaozhao?"

"Yes, actually I've met Zhaozhao. She's a little girl that people can't help but like."

Wen Ying didn't really have much experience in coaxing children, but for some reason, she just loved talking with Chao Chao.

Every day, Chaochao's behavior, which always made people think she was a sensible big child, made Wen Ying feel a bit sad in her heart.

Of course, it was because she had just seen Zhaozhao, so she knew the name and what happened next.

This lovable little girl probably doesn't have many days left.

And this result, she currently has no power to change.

Apart from her bright eyes, her body was frighteningly thin, and there were some scars on her nose from needle pricks.

There were also various needle marks on the back of the hand.

But she didn't seem to mind at all; she just thought that if she behaved sensibly, her parents wouldn't be so sad.

"Zhao Zhao, is there something you really want to do?"

The little girl heard Wen Ying's words, tilted her head and thought for a moment, "I want to go to the amusement park, but my mom said I can't go to the amusement park, I have to stay in the hospital."

Wen Ying spent an entire evening and another morning looking for Zhao Zhao's parents and the attending physician.

In the end, Chaochao held his mother's hand with one hand and Wen Ying's hand with the other, and they took a car to the amusement park.

Carousel, bumper cars, slide, Ferris wheel.

As long as it was an activity that Zhao Zhao could play, Wen Ying accompanied her through it all.

Standing in the amusement park, watching her daughter playing with Wen Ying, Zhao Zhao's mother couldn't stop her tears.

After the final event ended, the three of them returned to the hospital together. On the way, Chaochao's mother wanted to thank Wen Ying, but Wen Ying refused.

After parting ways in the hospital.

"Mom, Sister Wen Ying is the best person I've ever met, of course, except for you and Dad."

"Mom, today I was really happy. I hope you can be happy too, and not secretly cry, okay?"

"Mom, I can't study well anymore, please don't be sad."

"Mom, I might not be able to stay with you and Dad anymore, but I still want to be your precious child."

"Mom, in the next life, can I still be your precious one?"

"Mom, you have to smile. You look the best when you smile!"

"Mom, I'm sleepy."

On the afternoon of the third day, Zhao Zhao's mother came to Wen Ying's hospital room, holding a worn-out rag doll in her hand. She kept looking at the doll, her lips trembling slightly.

"Dr. Wen, this is the doll that Zhaozhao is giving you. This doll has been with her for more than three years, and it's her favorite. She said she wants to give it to you."

Wen Ying did not refuse and reached out to take the doll.

She wasn't good at comforting people. "Zhao Zhao's mom, Zhao Zhao told me she hopes you can always be happy."

Chaochao's mother covered her face, sobbing uncontrollably.

Aunt Zhang came to deliver the meal and saw this scene. In the hospital, such a situation didn't require any questions.

The hospital is nothing more than a place of life and death.

She stepped forward and embraced Chaochao's mother, holding her silently, letting her cry on her shoulder.

Ten minutes later, Chaochao's mother wiped away her tears. "Sorry to disturb you. I need to take Chaochao home now. Goodbye."

As soon as Chaochao's mom stepped out, Wen Ying followed her.

"Chaochao's mom, this is something I brought for Chaochao. I hope it can stay by her side and always keep her company."

Mom left with the item in her hand, without looking inside to see what it was.

Inside were two talisman papers: one for guidance and one for soul protection.

Wrapped in a small fragrant package.

Wen Ying wrote Chao Chao's name on it, and also wrote Grandpa Zhang's name.

She didn't know if it would succeed, but this was the only thing she could do for Zhaozhao at the moment.
