Chapter 5 - Miracle

New Trier, Intis Empire. 7:30 A.M, March 25, 428. Garden of the Burey's Villa.

From what I gathered from Michael's memories, Rebecca is a very energetic girl. She usually wakes up early to have breakfast with her parents and likes to spend her mornings reading and painting, usually in the attic or in the garden.

Michael thought as he walked around the garden. There was a wide variety of flowers, and all of them were well-groomed.

From what I understood, Michael and his family never had contact with real mysticism other than chanting honorific names, which usually are incomplete in orthodox preachings...

One of Rebecca's most distinguishable physical traits is her green eyes, but yesterday her eyes turned red. That's obviously some kind of Beyonder power, but I can't think of a Pathway that can do that...

She was far too excited and careless for someone who is used to the Beyonder world, so she's probably a Sequence 9...

Maybe the Sequence 9 of the Mystery Pryer? They have great spirituality and can use spirit vision at Sequence 9, but it was never said that when using that ability, one's eyes would become red and swirly...

Seer? No, the Seer Pathway uses different types of equipment and rituals to use divination correctly in early sequences, and Rebecca only looked at Michael...

Maybe the Monster Pathway? They are known for having higher spirituality than most Sequence 9. Maybe the foresight ability told her Michael would die? But at Sequence 9, the foresight should be just a glimpse of the future; it shouldn't be detailed enough for that...

Well... It isn't the most fact-based theory ever, but it's what I have for now. A characteristic of the Monsters is whispering things constantly. It might even be related to the acting method of the potion. I guess I'll have to keep a close eye on Rebecca to discover it.

Michael admired the Burey's garden as he organized his ideas.

He sat down on the grass and looked up at the sky.

But I wonder, if she really saw something, what was it? My transmigration into Michael's body? I doubt it. Transmigration isn't a common thing to happen. A Sequence 9 wouldn't have the power to see it...

And even if they could, they would most probably get immediately corrupted, I guess...

Rebecca said she had found a way to discover what illness Michael had, but right after using that weird ability, she ran out like lightning. This means that if she saw something, it definitely wasn't good...

If what she saw was Michael's death or my transmigration and didn't get corrupted, then it explains everything, but it's hard to believe that...

If what she saw was Michael's illness or its origin, then I'm in a much bigger problem than I thought...

Maybe Michael's illness is something related to mysticism, a curse? The Assassin Pathway has similar powers in later sequences...

The problem is that Michael was born with the disease. From what I know, the Assassin Pathway can't curse someone who wasn't born, and their curses are targeted to a single person, so I doubt it would affect a fetus during pregnancy...

It can't be from the Criminal Pathway. They would just kill Michael directly. His disease isn't related to luck, so it can't be from the Monster Pathway. The Planter and Apothecary Pathways are more about curing than cursing.

The more Michael tried to use his knowledge to decipher the mysteries surrounding his transmigration, the more confused he got.

Damnit! Am I missing something? Wait... Based on the Law of Convergence, when you are a Beyonder, you'll naturally have more contact with Beyonder incidents than normal humans...

No one else in the Burey Family seems to have the strange powers Rebecca showed...

Rebecca used her powers too recklessly, so she most probably doesn't have a mentor to guide her. And if she has, it's a very incompetent one...

Beyonder Characteristics can be inherited, but from what I know, neither the Viscount nor the Viscountess are Beyonders. Beyonder. Viscountess might have decided to have some fun with a Beyonder...

Michael joked in his thoughts while he walked around the garden. He then suddenly stopped.

Wait, my best guess is really that the Viscountess cheated? Did she really cheat on the Viscount with a Beyonder?! That would explain basically everything. If the Beyonder is just a mid-sequence, then he can't control the characteristics. And if he is a high sequence, then he might've used her to get rid of excessive characteristics...

If I'm right, then Michael Burey never was sick in the first place. Instead, he is a low-sequence Beyonder, like a Half-Sequence 9 or Sequence 9 and a half that couldn't control his powers...

That would explain why no one could say what disease he had. It was a mysticism matter...

That also explained why the disease disappeared when I assumed the body. Since I have more knowledge of mysticism and its laws, I subconsciously am controlling the characteristic...

"Hahahahahahahaa, no way! That's ridiculous." Michael laughed as he walked to the main house.

"Well, if that's true or not, I'll have to discover it later. Now I need to understand what Rebecca saw and from what pathway she is."

...

As Michael entered the main house, he noticed a servant cleaning the chandeliers.

"Have you seen Rebecca today?"

The servant looked at Michael, surprised and visibly shocked.

"Mr. Michael!? W-well, I haven't seen Lady Rebecca since yesterday. I think she hasn't woken up yet."

"Mr. Michael, I-I'm sorry if I'm meddling in what doesn't concern me, but can you really be walking like that? Do you need help getting to your room?"

Michael looked at him, confused, before remembering that until yesterday, he could barely walk. "No, don't worry, I'm fine."

Michael walked away quickly to avoid more questions.

He walked to the second floor, walked towards Rebecca's room, and knocked on the door.

"Rebecca? Are you awake?"

Rebecca, who was lying on the floor, immediately woke up.

Michael opened the door and entered the room.

When Rebecca saw the familiar face of her brother, she immediately got up and stared at him in shock.

"D-DEMON! YOU DEMON, WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY BROTHER?!"

Yeah, she definitely saw something related to Michael's death... Michael thought while Rebecca screamed at him.

Rebecca's screams quickly got the attention of the whole house. The Viscount quickly ran towards Rebecca's room.

"Rebecca! What happened!?"

Rebecca pointed to Michael and screamed again: "Dad! D-demon! A demon possessed Mike's body!"

I mean, I know I'm not the original Michael Burey, but it's not like I'm a demon. None of us had much of a choice in the matter, Michael satirized in his thoughts.

"Demon? Rebecca, what do you mean by that? Are you alright? Did you hit anything?" The Viscount asked, confused by his daughter's accusations.

"Dad, can't you see!? He's clearly not Mike! He killed Mike and possessed his body!"

Rebecca kept screaming and pointing at Michael while the Viscount tried to calm her down.

The Viscount looked at Michael, trying to understand what was happening.

Michael turned to the Viscount and tried to explain what happened.

"I don't know, Dad. I just entered her room to see if she was alright since she usually wakes up early, and..."

Rebecca suddenly took an empty glass from her table and threw it at Michael, who was talking to the Viscount.

Michael, even while looking in the opposite direction, instinctively moved his body and dodged the glass.

"Rebecca! What do you think you're doing!?"

The Viscount screamed as two servants entered the room and immobilized Rebecca.

"Demon! You stole my brother's body! Bring him back!"

Rebecca screamed as she tried to break free from the servants.

One of the servants took one of his hands out of Rebecca's grasp and struck a blow to her neck, which made her pass out.

Damn! Calm down, Mr. Bruce Lee, she's a noble. Michael satirized in his thoughts.

"I'll get a doctor to see what's happened to her. Are you okay, Michael? Did you get hurt?"

The Viscount asked as he picked up Rebecca from the servants.

Shit, I can't let a doctor see her. They'll consider her insane. That'll ruin my plans.

"Dad, wait. There's no need to call a doctor. Becca was just shocked to see me healthy so suddenly, like everyone did. She just got too shocked. Let her rest for some time, and she should get better."

The Viscount is a very proud man, especially when it comes to the name Burey. He wouldn't want people to doubt the mental state of his oldest daughter and the future of the Burey family, so this should be enough to convince him for now.

The Viscount placed Rebecca in her bed and said, "You're right, Michael. A miracle that even medicine can't comprehend happened, of course some people would get scared."

Heh, of course that would work... Michael thought as he placed his right hand on the Viscount's shoulder.

"Let's let her get some sleep and we'll talk with her later," Michael said as he and the Viscount walked out of the room.

"I have some meetings to go to. I'll see you at dinner, Michael."

"Yes, Dad. Have a nice day," Michael said as the Viscount walked towards the entrance.

I have to find a way to stop Rebecca from saying those things, because even if nobody believes her, they might put her in an asylum, and I can't let that happen until I find out how she became a Beyonder.
