DRAKE'S VIEW
I had to be firm in my decision to refuse Anna. It was the best thing to do, and besides, it was for her own good. I hope that she will understand one day that what I did was to save her own life and the life of our son. I am not going to stand by and let Anna make a hasty decision. Colonel James was encouraging her for his own selfish reasons, which I am going to get to the bottom of.
I peeped through the window of the café, and I saw him sit with her and have coffee. He was a shrewd man, and he played the game well. It didn't take him time to have Anna right where he wanted her. I prayed that she would see him for what he really was someday, but for now I couldn't worry about that. I had bigger fish to fry, and that was my estranged brother Drenmore. I had to lure him to the mansion in the woods, like today.
