Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Evelyn’s wrath

Evelyn's wrath

After Spending the whole day doing a shopping spree, Ava and Lily finally returned home, Alexander took care of the bills and they made their way home.

However it felt too much for Ava as she has never shopped this much in her entire 22 years, nor has she ever been surrounded by so many luxurious items. Though overwhelmed, she was happy that she wouldn't have to wear Evelyn's hand-me-downs.

Lily did most of the picking. She picked different sets of lingerie, swimsuits, casual clothes, evening dresses, sexy nightwear, shoes, handbags, a travel bag for the honeymoon, jewelry, and a whole lot of things.

As they entered her room, Ava saw that everything in the wardrobe was gone. Lily noticed the stunned expression on her face. "What's wrong Ava?"

Ava turned to Lily with a smile of disbelief, "Evelyn's Clothes… they are gone."

"Wait…what do you mean Evelyn's clothes? What are you talking about Ava?" Lilly asked, with a frown on her face.

Ava hesitated for a moment, unsure about how much to reveal. "Well….the wardrobe was filled with some of Evelyn's old clothes. I recognized some of them from when I visited a few times with my dad."

"Ugh! Why does she have to be so unbearably annoying? Why does she have to play such petty games?" Taking a deep breath she added, "Does Alex know?" She asked with frustration and disgust.

"Not really, I didn't tell him…Not that he was here to listen anyways." Ava said.

Lily let out a sign. "Well, he should know."

"It's okay Lily, don't worry about it. See, everything is gone, let's get this all sorted." Ava said, trying to calm Lilly and change the topic.

This is ridiculous, Ava. He should know about this, she's trying to humiliate you!" Lily said, worrying about Ava.

"It's fine, Lily," Ava said softly.

"Alright, fine. I won't press any further, but promise me if anything like this ever happens again, you will inform me or Alexander." Lily said with a deep sigh, she moved to the wardrobe and began handing the new clothes.

After they were done sorting out the purchases, Alexander took Lily home.

She appreciates having one person in the family who cares about her genuinely.

The next day, Ava woke up early to start getting ready for the honeymoon. She barely slept at the thought of how their honeymoon would go. She took a long warm shower, trying to soothe her nerves.

After she was done. She dressed in a simple yet elegant long chocolate brown maxi dress and slipped on a pair of white Hermes slippers. She looked at herself in the mirror, it was simple and she was happy with the way she looked. The color of the dress compliments her tan skin, and dark wavy hair which she styled in a messy bun. The dress brought out her pear shape perfectly. She was what people refer to as slim and thick.

As she descended the grand stairs heading to the dining room for breakfast, when she reached the dining room, she noticed that Evelyn had not come for breakfast.

Alexander sat at the head table, he gave her a brief nod as she made her way to her seat, before returning his attention to his phone.

Ava sat quietly across from him, picking at her food. "Is your mom not joining us today?" She asked hesitantly, trying to break the loud silence between them.

"She won't be joining us today, she's feeling a bit under the weather," Alexander replied, looking up from his phone.

"That's bad. I'll take breakfast to her." Ava said.

"No need for that. The maids will take care of it." Alexander said, his voice flat.

Ava, feeling hurt, just nodded and let things be. She wanted to burst out and pour all the frustration she had been feeling with the way he was treating her all of a sudden. But, he'll just dismiss it like it's nothing.

After she was done eating, Alexander told her to get ready to leave for their honeymoon.

Ava went to her room to give the maid her travel bag. As she was heading downstairs, Madeline came and told her, "Madam wants to see you."

"Alright," Ava replied.

As they made their way to Evelyn's room, Ava's heart began to race. Why does she want to see me now?  Ava thought to herself.

Reaching the door to her room, Madeline knocked softly, informing her that she had brought Ava.

As the door opened, she was graced with the most extravagant room she had ever seen. She thought that her room was big, but Evevelyn's room was grand, decorated with luxurious furniture. A large portrait of her is on the wall.

"Don't just stand there, go in." Madeline's voice brings her back from her thoughts.

"Sorry." Ava apologized, feeling embarrassed.

"Do you know the type of people I hate the most?" Evelyn said, depriving Ava of the chance to even greet her.

"N-No" Ava replied after a long pause.

"Lower-class people who go around like parasites, leeching on the wealthy. And unfortunately, you fall under that category." Evelyn said, her voice low and dangerous.

Ava froze, her heart racing. "I-I'm sorry? What do you mean?"

"Don't play dumb with me, Ava. I've seen girls like you before. When I heard the news about you and Alex dating, I thought he had just found a new play toy and he would leave you when he's tired like he always does with the other girls, but he went as far as marrying you?" Evelyn spat, her voice calm but sharp and venomous.

Ava felt her hands tremble, her breath hitched, her mind spinning in confusion. She knew that Evelyn was somewhat hostile towards her, but she didn't know that it was this bad. Her stomach churned with every word.

Parasite? Leech? The words cut through Ava's fragile heart. The fear, shame, and confusion, all swirled inside her.

"I don't know how you bewitched him into marrying you, but mark my words, Ava, I will make your life a living hell. But there's a way to avoid all that." She said to Ava

Evelyn turned her attention to Madeline. "Get my checkbook, Madeline. I know what people like her needs."

Evelyn's lips curled up in a smirk as she scribbled on her checkbook.

"Here's a check for Twenty million dollars. I'll make arrangements for you to live in any country of your choice. All I ask is that you leave my son, and request for a divorce." Evelyn said, her voice soft but full of venom.

Ava's mouth went dry. She could feel warm liquid, roll down her cheeks.

"Make a smart choice and take it, dear. We both know that you're not worthy of my son. I can't believe he is taking a week off for some honeymoon vacation. You're an inconvenience. But don't worry, I am generous enough not to let you go empty-handed." Her smirk widened as if she had already won.
