"Sarah!" Alex's voice cut through the darkness as they plunged into the gaping chasm, his hand reaching for her, desperate and frantic. His fingers brushed hers, but before he could grasp her hand, she was ripped from his reach by the swirling shadows below.
Sarah screamed, her heart racing as she tumbled through the air, disoriented and terrified. Her mind scrambled to make sense of what was happening. She felt like she was falling through endless darkness, no sense of time or space to ground her.
And then, just as suddenly as the descent began, it stopped.
