"How much longer do we have to run?" Sarah's voice trembled, barely audible over the roar of the shadows crashing behind them.
"Just a little more!" Alex shouted back, though the weight of uncertainty crushed their heart. The glimmer of light they'd spotted was still far away, and the Abyss—angry, relentless—was closing in faster with each passing moment. It felt like every step was a battle against a force they couldn't comprehend.
"Alex, listen to me!" Sarah pulled at their arm, forcing them to stop. Her breath came out in sharp gasps, her eyes wide with fear but also something else—determination. "We can't keep running like this. We have to face it."
Alex's chest tightened. "Face what? That thing? The Abyss? It's... it's everything, Sarah! We don't even know what it is. And we barely escaped it last time."
