"Alex, wake up!" Sarah's voice trembled as she shook him, her hands gripping his shoulders with desperation. The darkness pressed in around them like a living entity, cold and oppressive. Her heart raced as she watched Alex's limp form, his eyes closed, his face drained of color.
"Please, Alex… you promised me," she whispered, her voice cracking. "You promised we'd get out of here together."
But he didn't respond. He didn't even stir.
Fear surged through her like a flood, threatening to drown her in despair. She couldn't lose him—not like this. They had fought so hard, risked everything. Sarah felt her pulse thudding in her ears as she struggled to pull herself together. She couldn't afford to break down now. The Abyss was still out there, waiting, watching. She could almost feel its eyes on her, waiting for her to fall apart.
Not yet, she thought fiercely. I won't let it take you.
