Chapter 1

A warm, pleasant feeling surrounded me! It reminded me of the gentle touch of my mother. My eyes were closed and wouldn't open. My limbs seemed foreign to me. All of a sudden, the drowsy, pleasant feeling turned into one of extreme discomfort!
I struggled to move my hand, yet sometimes it seemed to block it. The feeling of discomfort was too intense, as I struggled to move my limbs. Where was I? What was happening? I had no idea, nor did I have any memory of what I was doing here! Was I kidnapped? This was the first thought that came to my mind! They would kidnap me! I was lazy, a shut-in, with no immediate family.Â
My parents passed away shortly after I graduated from high school, and a home invasion had gone wrong, and a world of monsters! The culprits were never caught, and justice was never served. For my parents, who were unfairly murdered in a gate, this only served to make me lose hope in everything! My parents were lovely people, hard-working, and law-abiding citizens. They didn't deserve what happened to them!Â
The death hit me hard, as I closed myself off from the world. Some people would drown their sorrow in alcohol and drugs. I ended up throwing myself into the world of video games, novels, mangas, and anime. The little bit of money left by my parents was enough to support my lifestyle, so I slowly isolated myself from the world.Â
This is why the thought that I had been kidnapped was a bit absurd! One would gain nothing from kidnapping a lazy shut-in like me. With such thoughts swirling in the back of my mind, I resumed my attempt at breaking out of whatever prison seemed to bound me. Slowly but surely, I could feel the walls crackling, turning! Soft as a shrug at a push against the crack! Crack! I was close! I could feel it! With one mighty push, the prison collapsed, spawning light, salt in my eyes, causing me to cry out in surprise!
What should have come out, a normal adult's voice, ended up as a bestial roar that caused me to force my eyes open in surprise! My eyes glanced at the prison that I escaped from, a large red egg with certain crystal engravings on it. The size of two adult men! I could feel my heart threatening to leap out of my chest, as my gaze continued from the egg towards my hands, or to be more precise, claws or clawed limbs!Â
What the? I yelled, but it merely came out as a feral roar! My limbs were covered in white, red scales. White, red, and blue scales with claws that appeared to be sharp! They could easily decapitate a person! My tongue felt unfamiliar in my mouth. It seemed to be forked as I rolled it around, only to feel a set of dangerously sharp teeth! I constantly glanced back and forth, back and forth, and almost fainted in shock! There, at my back, was a pair of small, white, red wings, alongside a large tail that was easily half my length! My breathing picked up as I quickly began to panic!
I was in a cave, unknown, it was desolate, dark, with nothing else other than a broken egg that I came out of. I guess I'm what you call a dragon. As I have wings, a large tail, and scales, and a pair of horns that appeared to protrude out of my forehead, although they were short. A dragon! That was the thought running through my head as my panic increased!Â
I was about to run and find out what the hell was going on, only to trip on my own feet, and the lack of coordination! My legs, or claws were not responding properly! I ended up tripping on the eggshell that surrounded me and fell face-first, or to be precise, face-claw!Â
My claws were not long enough to allow me to stand, and they were quite sharp. After several more attempts, I decided to use the wall to help me up, but it wasn't until I reached an entrance of the cave, did I realize something! The entrance was a tunnel, and I had no choice but to crawl on all fours, as the tunnel was too small to fit my body, but it was a tunnel, a way out!Â
I didn't even consider that I was naked and crawled my way towards the exit. Once outside, the sun was high in the sky, and I found myself inside a mountainous region. The forest below was full of greenery, and the scent of the wild assaulted my nostrils, but what surprised me most was the sensation. It was as if the wind was telling me everything it touched.Â
The sound of the leaves as they rustled in the wind was not a whisper, but a scream! The scent of the dirt, the animals, the plants, the insects, and even the clouds above were telling me about their presence! I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of sensations I was experiencing and could not understand. It was only after a few hours, did the sensations become a bit easier to deal with, but there was another problem.
I was starving, and my body felt weak! The egg, the prison I was inside, had kept me nourished and alive. The hunger I felt, was beyond anything I've ever experienced, and I had no choice but to seek something to eat!
I had to use the cliff behind me as a sort of staircase, and I had to slowly, painfully make my way down. Every step was an opportunity to fall and die, but thankfully, I somehow made it to the forest. As soon as I was inside, my ears began to pick up all the sounds, but they were not as overwhelming as the ones in the open.Â
I tried to make sense of what I heard, but it was impossible! So many sounds, coming from different directions, and all at the same time! The only thing I could make out were the sounds coming from the creatures in front of me, but I wasn't sure if they were edible or not.Â
They appeared to be rabbits, and they were delicious. The only problem was how I was going to catch them? The only way I could think of was to try to sneak up on them. As the rabbits were unaware of my presence, I slowly moved closer to them. The forest floor was littered with dried leaves and branches, and the rabbits were nibbling at some grass, but as soon as they sensed my presence, they hopped away.
I tried again and again, but my efforts were futile. I had no idea why I was so bad at hunting. It was only when I stumbled and fell that the rabbits stopped their frantic hopping. They were staring at me as if they were mocking me, but this was a chance!
I got back up and ran towards the rabbits. My feet were not the ones moving, as they were the ones that caused me to trip and fall. They were the ones that couldn't walk properly, but as I focused on the rabbit in front of me, it was as if they moved on their own, as I felt the wind blowing at them, telling me about their positions.
When I was close enough, the rabbits scattered in all directions, and I could hear them hopping away. Their tiny feet were hitting the ground, and I could feel the vibrations in the ground, and they were telling me about their location, their position, their speed, and their direction.
I knew where they were going, and I followed them. With every jump, they were leaving more tracks on the ground. They were also leaving traces in the air. The scent of their fear, the sweat from their fur, the droplets of water that dripped from their bodies. The air was alive with information, and I was able to use it to follow the rabbits.
It was as if the world was telling me where the rabbits were, and the more I chased them, the easier it was to tell them apart. I could see the patterns on their fur, the shape of their ears, and the length of their tails. I could tell the males from the females.
There were other rabbits in the distance, but I ignored them and focused on the ones I was chasing. They were the ones that I would catch, the ones that I would eat. The other rabbits were not important.
After a while, the rabbits became tired and started to slow down. They were not as fast as they were when they first ran away. They were panting, their fur soaked with sweat, and their muscles twitching.
They were getting closer to the edge of the forest. There was a clearing ahead, and a small lake. There were more rabbits there. The other rabbits stopped and looked at us. They were watching. They were waiting.
The rabbits that I was chasing stopped and stared at the other rabbits. They were confused and scared. They were tired and hungry.
I was tired too, but I was not going to stop. I was not going to give up.
I was hungry and tired, but I was not going to let that stop me. I was not going to give up.
I was going to catch the rabbits and eat them.
I was going to survive.
I was going to live.
As the rabbits were looking at the other rabbits, the ones in the clearing, I took the opportunity and lunged forward.
I jumped and tackled one of the rabbits. The other rabbits scattered, and the one I caught was squirming, trying to get away.
I was not going to let it get away. I grabbed it and bit into its neck. I tore its throat out, and the blood poured out. The taste was exquisite; the warm liquid filled my mouth and throat, and the lifeblood of the rabbit flowed down my gullet. It was the best thing I had ever tasted.
As the taste of the rabbit's blood lingered in my mouth, I looked around. The other rabbits were gone. They had disappeared into the woods. They had run away.
I looked at the dead rabbit in my paws and the blood on my mouth. The rabbit's life had ended, but mine had just begun.
As the warm blood of the rabbit continued to flow down my throat, I began to think.
Where was I? How did I get here? What was happening?
My body was tired, and my stomach was full. The taste of the rabbit's blood lingered on my tongue, and I was satisfied.
I decided to take a nap.
It was a good day.
I had caught a rabbit. I had eaten it. And I was still alive.
I was going to sleep now and dream about the taste of the rabbit's blood and the sound of its screams.
