The window appeared like a notification of sorts. A box that floated in the air before my eyes. The message itself was weird, to say the least, and I had to read the line a few times before it began to make sense.

[What was this?]

I glanced around, looking for any clue as to what the message might mean. But all I saw were trees and grass. And the sound of water, like the burbling of a stream, somewhere nearby.

[The message remained.]

"Was this a dream?"

"It was the most obvious answer."

"But if that were true, how could I tell?"

My hand moved involuntarily, brushing against the surface of the window.

When all the system and ringing sounds disappeared, I no longer felt any weakness. Previously, I couldn't even raise my head, but now my entire body was full of energy.

I feel like I've been reborn.

I could feel it!

A new kind of energy flowing along with my blood. This was mana. My heart was acting like mana reactor by endlessly producing and storing away magic.

I was now a living being of pure mana.

My brain, heart, and the rest of my body had changed. I had gained the ability to control mana, and the power to use it.

Rumble!

"It Feels like I haven't eaten anything for ages."

"I felt like a devourer at this point."

I was still at the at the same place as yesterday where I killed the rabbit, I was on top of the leaves with mud underneath where I had fallen asleep from my previous hunt.

"I should look for something to eat."

As I contemplated going hunting and looking for prey, I noticed a large amount of heat in one area.

I decided to check exactly what that was.

I carefully maneuvered around the trees, not making any noise, and used my enhanced senses to scan the area. It took quite a bit of effort to move from tree to tree without making a sound.

After a short while, I was able to locate the source of the heat, a rather large creature sleeping in a clearing in the woods. It was the size of an ox and had scales with a rough texture to them. A snake with a long body that ended in a blunt tail.

From what I could tell, this was a non-magical creature.

I wasn't too sure of my options, so I just observed it from my hiding place for a while.

The creature was sound asleep, its limbs hanging limply over the grass, its mouth wide open, with a long tongue flicking in and out of its jaws.

As I stared at it, I realized I needed to take care of the predator first in order to feed myself.

The creature opened its eyes, a pair of large, glowing eyes with vertical slits for pupils. I knew then, as its eyes met mine, that it was not a mere creature but something far more powerful and far more dangerous.

It got up and slowly advanced towards me, its tongue still darting in and out of its jaws, tasting the air, its eyes fixed on mine.

I didn't wait for the inevitable and leapt at it, claws extended, my heart racing, my teeth bared.

As soon as the attack was launched, I knew it was hopeless. The beast was just too fast; it simply turned around and swiped at me with a powerful hind swipe of its long tail.

The blow knocked me back and sent me flying across 60ft, slamming me into a nearby tree.

I landed heavily, feeling like I had been hit by a boulder.

The creature took another step forward, its tongue now lashing back and forth, its eyes glowing like coals in the fire.

Well, coughing out blood, with crimson liquid coming out of me, I focused on the heat within me, willing it to come forth to become real, and then, I unleashed a burst of flames, a jet of white Blazing flames.

[You have used Skill: Flame Breath]

[MP 30/50]

The snake ox-like creature was unfazed while slithering close to me and swiping its tail down on me again, sending me rolling over the grassy terrain. The monster opened its mouth, releasing a burst of flames at me.

I barely managed to dodge the attack, rolling to the side as the blast hit the ground, turning the grass and dirt into a snowy field filled with ice.

Crimson blood stained my red-white scales. I could see a deep gash on my left forelimb, and blood dripped steadily from the wound, staining the ground red.

It hurt so much, but I was already exhausted from fighting that creature. How long could I keep this up? I didn't know, but I had to. There was no other way to escape.

Crimson liquid fell from my jaws, falling on the ground at my feet like crimson rain. The taste of my own blood was sour in my mouth. I'd never been injured this badly before.

I knew the only reason I was still alive was because that snake ox had grown tired of our game and moved in to kill me.

I hopped back up to my feet, feeling a little bit dizzy and disoriented. The creature was still advancing, its tongue flickering rapidly, its eyes fixed on me, its tail still raised, ready to strike.

I backed away, trying to put some distance between me and the monster, but it was no use; the snake-like ox just kept coming.

I felt a wave of despair wash over me as I realized that I was not going to be able to fight this creature off, that there was nothing I could do to save myself.

And then, out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of something that made my heart start beating rapidly at an incredible rate.

There, at the edge of the clearing, stood a tree with a low-hanging branch.

It wasn't much, but it was the only thing I had, and so, with the last ounce of my strength, I hurled myself towards it, grabbing onto the branch and pulling myself up.

The snake-like ox roared, its tail swiping at me, narrowly missing my head.

But it was too late, I was already out of reach.

I climbed up the tree as fast as I could, not wanting to know what would happen if the creature managed to get its claws on me.

I reached the top of the tree, panting and sweating; I could hear my heart beating loudly in my chest.

I clung to the trunk, looking down, watching as the creature paced below me, its eyes fixed on me, its mouth open with its tongue flicking in and out.

"What should I do now?"

I felt a stabbing pain in my chest. I clutched my arm; it was in extreme pain. I looked down to find my claws covered in blood.

I pulled my claws away, leaving behind a deep red stain on my scales. I stared at my claws as the blood kept flowing.

My wounds were serious, and I knew that if I didn't do something, they would kill me.

But there was nothing I could do, nothing except die.

The Snake like ox roared again, its tail thrashing the ground, sending dirt flying everywhere.

I watched as the Snake like Ox's tongue flickered back and forth, tasting the air, trying to find me.

I took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to calm my nerves.

I was in a bad situation, and the only thing keeping me alive was the fact that the snake-like ox hadn't managed to find me yet.

But the truth was that the moment it did, I would be done for.

I closed my eyes, focusing on the heat inside me, willing it to come forth and become real, and then, I unleashed a burst of flames, a jet of white blazing Flames.

[MP 10/50]

It was the biggest, strongest blast of fire I had ever produced, and it hit the snake-like ox directly, knocking it back, its scales blistering and melting.

The creature howled in pain, its tail thrashing the ground wildly.

But that wasn't the end of it.

The creature rose up and charged me, its tail swiping at the trunk of the tree.

"Shit!"

I didn't have time to move, so instead, I grabbed onto the branch, pulling myself up just as the trunk snapped

When the branch broke under me, I quickly grabbed it, my flames covering the wood.

[Skill used Scorching Touch]

As I dropped, I let out a roar and threw the burning branch right at the eye of the snake-like ox. Smoke filled the air as it cried out in pain, thrashing around and swiping at me in a wild fury.

[Mp-0/50]

As the snake like ox writhed in pain, I grabbed onto its horns and pulled myself onto its head.

I sank my claws deep into its skull, piercing through the thick hide.

The creature roared loudly, its tail swiping at me wildly, but I ignored it, focusing all my attention on my task.

I dug my claws deeper, feeling the warmth of the creature's blood flow over my claws, coating them in crimson.

And then, the creature went limp, its body collapsing to the ground.

[Slain lesser dragon exp +100]

[You have leveled up]

[The words flashed across my vision.]

[I collapsed to the ground, exhausted.]

My heart was racing, and I could barely breathe.

But at the same time, there was a feeling of elation and pride.

I had defeated a dragon.

I had survived.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, letting the adrenaline leave my system.

I sat there, staring at the corpse of the snake ox-like creature, its blood staining the ground, its flesh cooked by my flames.

I didn't feel sad or angry. I didn't feel anything.

I felt numb.

"Numbness is an awful feeling."

'But then again, it's better than the alternative.

I shook my head and got to my feet.'

"Well, now what?"

"This was supposed to be a simple hunt for food. Not a fight to the death."

I stared at the body of the dead beast and sighed.

"Well, that was exciting."

"But I need to eat."

I approached the body and began to cut into the meat with my claws, ripping off chunks of flesh.

It was surprisingly tough, but I managed to get through it after a while.

Info dump incoming.

Authors note although there is a system don't expect -40hp when damaged constant popping up or anything like that I only use it for important knowledge and I try to describe instead of showing numbers these numbers are just a base line of how strong the spell is and what it dose also it just makes knowing what skill he's using easier for both of us now later down the road I know a lot of people who just go and say the move with out actually describing the scene I will actually describe what I'm trying to envision

Also btw don't expect constant chapters every day I didn't even mean to upload chap 1 that fast lol. I'm only on chapter 7 either way sorry for yap expect 1500-2000words a chap tho

So 1-2 a week when I get to 20 chapters I'll upload all of them when I get to it

Info dump here so people were wondering exactly what time period we are in right now. We are around 450-500years in the past (before canon) so we are in the era of before the dragons officially started war with the humans this is the era where dragons where known to rule the land and the sky and before dragon slayers was known to even exist also dragons are able to live up to thousands of years no problem

Put it this way Igneel was 400years old when Natsu was a kid or so the fandom says and he was considered young among dragons anyway thanks for reading
