At first, they thought she was addressing them, but as they drew closer, they saw her eyes focused on the dead assassin.
Lyra's expression changed; she opened the cell and went straight to the man, who fell at her touch.
No breath was left in him. His body was slightly warm, showing he had just died.
Lyra knelt on the ground in front of the queen. There was no denying it- a prisoner had died under her nose.
"Your Majesty, punish me, I committed a blunder." Her earlier playfulness was nowhere to be seen, her tone laced with guilt.
Elora's eyes landed on Lyra. "Is this a first?" Her calm question made Lyra look up. She met the queen's serene gaze; no emotion whatsoever passed through those purple eyes.
"No, Your Majesty."
"Since it's your first offence, you're pardoned," Elora said, her expression turning indifferent as stared at the empty corner of the cell.
The guards noticed and followed her gaze, but they found nothing.
