Darven didn't know how he got back to his castle, his mind was hit with a replay of what happened in his mind. Matilda who sat waiting for him, watched as he brushed past her with soulless eyes.
''Stop right there!'' she called out sternly, but he kept moving towards his room like he was deaf. Her face wrinkled at his strange behaviour. Moving towards him, she grasped his hands tightly, forcing him to look at her, but his stare was vacant.
''pah!''
Darven's head whipped to the side with a sharp pain across his cheek, and his eyes began to clear, though they watered from the sting as he clutched his reddened cheek.
''Now you've regained your senses, tell me, have the queen changed, or the reports were false?'' Matilda asked calmly, indifferent to his pain or the slight limp he was spotting.
