Chapter 51 - Prologue

New York, August 2020.

The young man lifts his face to the sky and closes his eyelids, taking a deep breath. Leaving the prison gates is the greatest happiness that could happen to him now. Spending seven years there made him realize how precious life in freedom is.

He wasted his life being locked behind bars, and now someone should pay for it. Through stupidity, he killed innocent people, while the girl who destroyed the life of his beloved and sent her to the grave was carelessly walking the streets, enjoying life.

He also wants her to pay the penalty for her sins. Let her feel the same pain he has experienced for the past seven years.

Holding the bag in his hand, he smiles at the sight of his friend waiting for him.

— How good it is to see you outside. The prison walls have taken all the life out of you, Johnny.

He smiles at her words.

— In that case, you must take good care of me so that I quickly regain my former strength.

Sitting in the car — across the street — a red-haired girl, leans with her hands on the steering wheel.

— Are you talking about me? — She smiles mockingly at the sight of them. She pulls her phone out of the pocket of her jean shorts and takes a picture of them. — You could smile at the lens, rather than already devising how to humiliate me. — She sighs, pretending to be disappointed. - I hope our fun will be more complicated now that we are all adults.

Danielle pops a mouthful of peppermint gum and stretches in her chair. Meanwhile, she yawns loudly, being weary of their endless chatter.

She intends to make a phone call to the person she has managed to miss.

— You'll never change your number to keep in touch with me, right? — she speaks up when she hears his voice on the other side of the receiver. — I have to see you at last.

— Danielle?

The girl glances in the rearview mirror and looks for a long moment at the bags of her belongings that lie on the back seat.

— I promised you that one day I would return to New York. And here I am. Should we meet?

— Are you serious? Don't you realize how many enemies you have here?

— Enemies are to me like candy to children. I love to get them, even though they are harmful — she replies, glancing at his blood-red fingernails. — And I'm watching one of them right now. You would have to see the smile on his face. The man, after seven years in prison, feels like a newborn.

— Did you go to see him, Danielle? — His voice sounds anxious. — You are not serious!

— I just wanted to watch how happy he would be after he was released. They released him early for good behavior. What do I have to be afraid of? Come on. I am no longer sixteen years old. I'm doing perfectly well in life.

— Danielle...

— I'll get back to you. Meanwhile, I have to hang up. Until we hear from you. — The girl clicks into the phone, then ends the call when she notices her enemies getting into the car.

She intends to follow them and find out where Johnny has decided to live.

— This time, I'll be the cat and you'll be the mouse. We'll see who can be more cunning, bastard.
