Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Main Mission Part 2

Adam stood inside the administrative room, gazing at the grand gate leading to the base's sole officer.

Adam activated his God's Eye skill, peering beyond the gate to find a man standing ready with a sword.

Adam was surprised; he had thought his presence would remain undetected until now, aside from the trainer. However, the officer had discovered the intruder's presence in the administrative room.

Adam's God's Eye revealed information about the person before him.

Thoughts: "A battle rages outside my room. How did this happen? There must be an intruder. He'll come through the gate. I'll launch a surprise attack as soon as he steps through."

Upon grasping Sir Tristan's thoughts, Adam knew he had already won this battle.

"If you wait for me at the gate, I'll give you what you want," Adam said.

From the Officer's Perspective:

Sir Tristan stood near the gate, knife in each hand, patiently awaiting Adam. Years of experience had taught him to remain calm in such situations.

His focused gaze fixed on the gate, anticipating Adam's arrival.

The gate creaked open, and Sir Tristan readied himself to strike. A mysterious figure clad in black stepped through the entrance.

As the figure entered, Sir Tristan swiftly closed the distance, knife at the ready, and struck at the figure's head.

However, Sir Tristan swiftly withdrew his attack, leaping away from the mysterious person.

This sudden retreat saved him, as another figure materialized precisely where he had stood moments before.

Third Person Perspective

Adam was surprised that Sir Tristan had easily caught onto his trap and escaped. The figure that had entered was an illusion, now dissipating.

Sir Tristan realized that this intruder was no ordinary foe, but a formidable opponent.

With knives poised in front of his face and chest, Sir Tristan entered a battle-ready stance. He sought to comprehend the intruder's origins and the leak that had compromised the base's location.

"I have just one question for you," Sir Tristan said calmly.

Despite the tension, Sir Tristan's mind remained remarkably composed.

Adam's gaze locked onto Sir Tristan, intrigued by his adversary's unexpected calm.

Adam nodded, indicating his readiness to answer.

Sir Tristan was taken aback; typically, adversaries didn't cooperate so readily.

"Which country sent you, and who revealed this base's location?" Sir Tristan asked. "Tell me, and I promise a painless death."

"Do you recall every trainee's face?" Adam countered.

Sir Tristan's expression turned impatient. "What are you talking about? Give me a straight answer!"

Adam removed his face mask, his gaze locking onto Sir Tristan. "Do you know me?"

Sir Tristan's eyes narrowed, recognizing Adam's face from the files he had studied. He had deemed Adam a valuable future asset for the organization.

"Now, I have just one question: Which country are you from?" Sir Tristan asked.

Adam smiled. "What will knowing accomplish when you're about to die?"

Sir Tristan chuckled. "You'll kill me? A trainee will kill me? What a ridiculous joke."

Adam unsheathed his blade and said, "Why not test it out?"

Sir Tristan lunged forward, but as he faced Adam, the latter vanished, reappearing behind him. Adam unleashed a fierce assault.

Sir Tristan blocked Adam's sword with his knife and countered with a chest stab. However, Adam disappeared before impact, reemerging behind Sir Tristan.

Sir Tristan retreated, pondering, "Why did he remain hidden in the base for so many years without anyone discovering his power?"

"I'm getting serious now," Adam declared.

Adam conjured multiple illusions, each resembling himself. Eight Adams stood before Sir Tristan, swords at the ready.

All the Adams attacked simultaneously, leaving Sir Tristan uncertain which was real. He struck at every illusion.

The initial Adam proved fake, disappearing as Sir Tristan's attack landed. The real Adam emerged, striking Sir Tristan's shoulder with his blade.

Adam vanished again, creating more illusions. Ten additional Adams materialized, surrounding the injured Sir Tristan.

Sir Tristan struggled to maintain composure as the illusions attacked. He attempted to create distance but Adam unleashed a barrage of needles.

The room descended into chaos, with Adam's illusions and needles closing in on Sir Tristan.

The needles pierced Tristan's body.

Undeterred, Adam and his illusions launched another assault. Sir Tristan countered by placing his hand on the ground and commanding, "Spikes!" A multitude of spikes burst forth, destroying several illusions.

As the spikes threatened to impale Adam's real body, he activated his Kinetic Enigma skill.

[Host skill active: kinetic enigma]

The spikes shattered upon contact with Adam's body, rendering them harmless.

Adam recreated his illusions, this time summoning over 20 duplicates. He utilized his Jump skill, sending the illusions soaring.

[Host skill active:Jump]

Witnessing this, Sir Tristan's Calm Mind skill activated, granting clarity in the chaos.

This skill had aided Sir Tristan's ascent to his current position, enabling wise decisions amidst turmoil.

It was rare for humans to possess more than three unique skills, like Adam's Learning, Kinetic Enigma, and other abilities.

Typically, humans had only one or two skills.

Unique skills, held by a single individual worldwide, occurred in merely one in 10,000 people.

This rarity made unique skills highly valued by every kingdom.

Consequently, Adam had encountered few individuals with their own distinct abilities.

"He must possess a unique skill countering my magic attacks," Sir Tristan thought.

Adam's illusions assaulted Sir Tristan, who struggled to dodge. Amidst the chaos, Adam's real body struck, severing Sir Tristan's right arm.

Sir Tristan's hand bled profusely, but Adam's relentless attacks continued.

As Adam prepared to strike Sir Tristan's neck, the officer used mana to create a crater beneath himself, momentarily shielding against the attack.

Adam observed Sir Tristan regaining balance despite severe injuries, protecting himself against further attacks. It seemed like Sir Tristan was stalling.

An idea struck Adam. "You've informed the higher authorities about me, haven't you?"

Sir Tristan's expression turned tense. "You won't survive... Even if you kill me, escape is impossible."

[0:42 minutes remaining…]

Adam grasped the countdown's purpose. Within 15 seconds, Sir Tristan had detected anomalies, though unaware of the solo attacker.

"likely, a backup team is en route to the South District base," Adam thought.

Adam's urgency grew; he needed to conclude the mission before reinforcements arrived.
