Chereads / Entertaiment Industry: Behind The Script / Chapter 22 - Against All Odds

Chapter 22 - Against All Odds

Since the website was established, not a single original project from BingeBox has met the platform's expectations.

Even when they tried to imitate CineHaven TV and ReelRise by buying rights to TV shows, the TV stations would usually only sell them programs that were of little to no value.

BingeBox was desperate to create a project that would be recognized by the audience — even if it would be the last one before the platform closed down.

Actually, BingeBox had considered shutting down the platform, but even if they had to, the platform wanted to leave its audience with at least a little bit of hope.

Though the crew for <> started filming in a hurry, they treated Im Giseok's script with the utmost care, meticulously completing everything written in it.

Even though it was just a short drama project, the crew filmed it with the attitude and effort of making a full-length series.

The first episode of the short drama was completed quickly and was uploaded to BingeBox as fast as possible.

That morning, Im Giseok was writing his script, but his phone kept buzzing.

It made it hard for him to concentrate, and when he reread the scene he had just finished, he wasn't satisfied with it anymore.

He paused to focus his thoughts for a moment, but his phone kept vibrating — all the messages were from BingeBox.

Im Giseok decided to turn off his phone and concentrate more fully on writing his script.

A Hollywood screenwriter once said that all writers hate writing.

Im Giseok was the kind of writer who drew strength from creating, but objectively speaking, a lack of inspiration could indeed be frustrating.

So, during his writing process, Im Giseok tried his best to stay away from anything that could distract him.

At this moment, the main source of distraction was BingeBox.

Im Giseok had already watched the first episode of <>.

The excitement was clear, and it included elements of a short drama that had never been seen in this world before.

He never thought there was any chance this short drama would fail.

Even if the views didn't meet their expectations, it shouldn't make BingeBox so anxious.

...

To some extent, Im Giseok didn't have a clear understanding of the TV drama industry in this world, or to be more precise, he wasn't fully aware of BingeBox's situation.

BingeBox was caught between the strong competition from CineHaven TV and ReelRise and the contempt from the TV stations.

It was at the bottom of the television industry.

BingeBox desperately needed a work that could prove its worth and help it turn things around.

And <> was the best script BingeBox had been able to get in recent years.

However, it seemed that the constant pressure from competitors and the audience had led BingeBox to become accustomed to its low position.

Even though screenwriter Im Giseok had given positive feedback, and the platform itself had given a lot of internal support for the project, the producer still felt that <> wouldn't achieve great success.
