*BOOOOM!*.
Another explosion resounded again. This one, powerful enough to knock people off their feet and cause the ground to crack open in some places. When people looked over at the steel alloy shield that was meant to protect them, they saw something that made them question if whether they'll survive this night or not, because that very shield that was meant to be impenetrable, now had a huge fist shape dent on its surface.
The sheer size of the fist gave people chills. What kind of creature is capable of putting a dent on a 35 centimetre steel alloy shield?. The amount of strength required to do it is unimaginable.
"Just what sort of monstrosity is out there?". Asked a middle aged man with short brown hair and eyes, as he stood up from the floor. His face looked extremely pale and he could feel a cold sweat trailing down his back. 'Were going to die'.
The man wasn't the only one that was frightened silly, everyone is. They started questioning themselves, will the steel alloy doors hold?, if not, then how long are the doors going to hold before their torn apart. What is going to happen to us once the doors fail?, will we die just like that. A few moments ago we were just casually chatting amongst ourselves, patiently waiting for help to arrive, none of us expected a fiend to attack our building, a powerful one at that.
"Are you alright, Alora?". Zyran checked on Alora who was in his arms.
"I'm okay". Alora steadied herself and then moved away from Zyran. "That was a demon, wasn't it?", she then observed the alloy shield. "The shield doesn't look like it could take anymore blows from whatever's out there. That means we need to get out of here before what's out there, gets in here. But how?".
Alora started analysing the situation, which did not come as a surprise to Zyran. Out of the both of them, she's the smartest, it had always been that way even when they were kids. Which was why, she's the one tasked with managing their finances. Why waste your energy trying to think of a solution, when you have a little sister that can come up with one asap.
Alora tried to ignore Zyran's look of admiration and continued, " I've done some research regarding the lock down mode installed in every major city. We all know that the lock down mode will stay active until all of the demon's within a city have been disposed of, the government made sure everyone knows that. But... There's something else I learned, something the government kept from others, with only the owners of the buildings that have a lock down mode being aware..."
"And what's that?", Zyran who's been listening to his sister asked. They were careful not to speak too loudly.
"A back door", she simply said.
"A back door?, like the back door on some buildings, that back door?".
"Yes and no".
"What do you mean?". Her answer was confusing Zyran. Is it the door at the back of a building or not. What other back doors are there, 'Oh!'.
Alora suppressed a sigh after seeing her brother's clueless expression. "I'll explain. When I say back door, I don't mean it in the literal sense. The government had already foreseen a situation like the one currently occurring.
Where a demon is possibly able to break through a building's defences. And so, they made a back door, which allows a person to unlock anyone of the steel alloy shields inclosing a building, this would allow a person to be able to exit said building even with it's lock down mode activated", explained Alora.
"Wait... How come I don't know about this?". It didn't make sense, how does she know that a building with lock down mode activated can be still opened?. "How do you know this?", he needed to know how she knew this.
Alora scratched the back of her neck, " A friend of mine accidentally mentioned it to me. As for how she knew, it was because her father is one of the people responsible for installing the lock down mode system within a building... Long story short, she was pretty adamant when she later told me to keep this a secret and that her father might lose his job if word got out that his daughter shared a government secret".
"Why hide it though?". Isn't the government supposed to look after it's people, putting their safety first. Why hide something that could potentially save lives if a building was ever infiltrated?". Zyran is starting to find the governments way of doing things to be disgusting. They are people who are currently outside, who could be allowed in and kept safe but, their out there now, clueless of the fact that they could actually be let in.
"Honestly, I also don't know why, not even my friend who told me this knows why". Alora also found the government's action of keeping secrets that could save lives stupid and careless.
"Shouldn't we at least... ". Before Zyran could finish.
*BOOOOM!*.
The steel alloy shield was heavily impacted again, causing the whole building to shake. People hurriedly tried to find something they could use to lean on so that they don't fall and hurt themselves. Some took the chance to observe the damage on the shield and what they saw made them feel extremely worried for their safety. The steel alloy shield now has two dents on it's surface. It was starting to become obvious to everyone that the alloy door won't hold for long.
"What's going to happen to us?".
"Why isn't help here yet?".
"Isn't there something we could do?".
"I don't want to die".
"Where's the manager? why isn't he here?".
Everyone was very shaken as they feared for their lives. No one wanted to die or be used by the demons for malicious things. Everyone knows how cruel the demons are, some even had the misfortune of witnessing them committing the most vilest acts possible. Witnessing a demon commit evil on someone and having that evil deed done to you are completely different thing's. So no one wanted to fall on the hands of the demons and experience their cruelty first hand.
Just as everyone was busy asking questions...
*BOOOOM!*.
The alloy shield was heavily impacted for the third time, which led to another dent appearing on the alloy shield's surface, just before anyone could say anything...
*BOOOOM!*.
*BOOOOM!*.
*BOOOOM!*.
*BOOOOM!*.
The alloy shield was being repeatedly struck, leading to multiple dents appearing on it's surface. The whole building trembled with each blow, as small cracks started appearing on the floor and walls. The lights wouldn't stop flickering on and off, while the whole building felt like it could collapse at any moment.
Each blow to the shield felt like a needle through everyone's heart. Once the steel alloy shield is no longer able to hold, it will collapse. The demons will then be able to come inside and do as they please to everyone in the building. Some will be gruesomely killed, some will be taken away to the realm of demons while some like the woman, will be used for pleasure before being either killed or also taken away.
What do we do? fight? As if we stand a chance against powerful demons, even the weakest of their kind can take on a whole village. While the demon out there is a very powerful one, it would slaughter us before we even see it coming. Escape? Where to?. All exits within the building have been closed off and they won't open until all the demons have been dealt with, the same demons trying to make their way in here. While it is true that the lock down function installed in the building is meant to protect everyone inside, it also acts as a trap. If a demon were to be able to break through the alloy shield, no one inside would be able to get away because all exits would be closed off.
Realisation finally started to sink into everyone's head, as they finally noticed the flaw of the lock down function. Why even bother trying to flee to the nearest building, when you'd just be trapping yourself inside. Like easy pickings, they were just making it easier for the demons to capture them. Yeah sure, we could all run and hide within a building and wait for help but, what if it doesn't immediately arrive? what should we do then?
Currently, the steel alloy shield is being riddled with dents while the floor is covered with cracks, making it hard for people to walk on it, while the constantly flickering lights weren't making it any easier.
Zyran was again holding Alora by the waist, to prevent her from falling due to the unsteadiness of the trembling building. "Alora, you said there was a way out of this place and that only the owner of the building knows how to open the steel alloy shields, right?".
