Chapter 2 - chapter 2

"(Then Yohan Gogo went to the shop)"

"Gogo said, 'What happened, Yohan? What decision have you made?'"

Yohan says,

"Yes, I need to do some job. But I can't figure out what kind of job I should do."

Gogo says,

"What?, You want to do a job, but you haven't made any decision yet?"

(Then Gogo handed Yohan a lot of newspapers.)

Gogo says,

"There are many kinds of jobs here. Find out from these which type of job you want to do."

(Yohan then started looking through the newspapers.)

Yohan says,

"There are so many types of jobs here. How do I choose which one to do?"

(Then Yohan called Gogo and said, "Gogo, I can't figure out what kind of job I should do.")

Gogo says,

"You still can't figure out what kind of job you want to do?"

(Gogo helped Yohan by showing him the different types of jobs he could consider.)

Gogo says, "You could try this job. Take a look and see."

Yohan says,

see which one?

Gogo says,

"You could work as a chef in a hotel, or you could work as an employee in a company. There are also many other part-time jobs available here."

Yohan says,

"I can't figure out what job I should do. I don't like having to think too much about these things."

Gogo says,

"You said you need to do a job. Now it seems you're giving up at the first obstacle."

Yohan says,

"No, I haven't done these kinds of jobs before. That's why. But I do need to find some kind of work."

Gogo says,

"Do you have any interest in becoming a shadow hunter? I'm thinking about it myself. There will be an entrance exam for becoming a shadow hunter in a few months. I'm planning to fill out the application form and take the exam. Do you also want to become a shadow hunter?"

Yohan says,

"I'll think about it later. For now, just tell me what I should do. I can't figure out what job to take."

Gogo says,

"Do you know what kind of questions are asked in a job interview?"

Yohan says,

"No, I don't know. Will I have to go through a job interview before getting a job?"

Gogo says,

"Yes, you'll be asked many different questions. If you can't answer them, you might not get the job."

Yohan says,

"That's another problem. So what should I do now to prepare for the job interview?"

Gogo says,

"You need to study now. You should also find out what questions are typically asked in job interviews."

Yohan says,

"I don't think I can manage all this. Now I have to study for the job interview too."

Gogo says,

"Then forget about getting a job."

Yohan says,

"Do something, Gogo. You're my last hope. Suggest an easy way that won't be too hard and will help me do well in the job interview."

Gogo says,

"I can't help you with this. It's your problem, and you'll have to figure it out yourself."

(Yohan whispers)

"If I could do it, would I be coming to you?"

Gogo says,

"What did you just whisper to me?"

Yohan says,

"No, no, I didn't say anything to you."

Gogo says,

"You're really saying the truth."

Yohan says,

"Yes, I'm telling the truth."

Gogo says,

"Alright. Yohan, do you know what kind of dress you should wear to a job interview?"

Yohan says,

"No, will I wear these dresses? Or do I need to wear a different dress?"

Gogo says,

"Yes, you need to wear a formal dress."

Yohan says,

"I don't have any formal dress."

Gogo says,

"Then let's go buy a formal dress for you."

(Gogo's dad says, "Are you going towards the shopping mall?")

Gogo says,

"Yes, I'm going to the shopping mall to buy a formal dress for Yohan."

Gogo's dad says,

"Then, on your way, please drop this box at the Miss Koranai shop."

Gogo says,

"Okay."

(While Gogo and Yohan are riding a motorcycle towards the shopping mall)

Yohan says,

"Why did you stop?"

Gogo says,

"I need to give this box to the shop."

(Gogo went to the shop to deliver the box.)

Gogo says,

"Miss Koranai, Dad has sent this box for you."

Miss Koranai says,

"Thank you for delivering the box."

(Then, Gogo leaves the shop and takes Yohan to the shopping mall.)

(Gogo and Yohan enter the shopping mall.)

(Inside the shopping mall, Gogo takes Yohan to a formal dress store.)

Gogo says,

"There are many kinds of formal dresses here."

Yohan says,

"There are so many kinds of formal dresses here. Which one will be suitable for my job interview?"

(Yohan picks a formal dress.)

Yohan says,

"This formal dress looks good. Let's see how much the formal dresses cost."

(Yohan exclaims)

"This formal dress costs 44,000 yen. Why are these formal dresses so expensive? Gogo, the prices here are really high. Let's leave; it's not possible to buy such an expensive formal dress

Gogo says,

"Yohan, you will look great in this formal dress."

Yohan says,

"Gogo, I can't afford such an expensive formal dress."

Gogo says,

"No, no, you have to buy the formal dress from here. Otherwise, you won't be able to go to the interview."

(Then Gogo goes to the counter and buys the formal dress for Yohan.)

Yohan says,

"You've used up all my savings, Gogo."

(Gogo and Yohan go to the library.)

Gogo says,

"Yohan, take this book home and read it carefully. It will help you understand better what questions might be asked in the interview."

Yohan says,

"Okay, thank you."

(Then, they were on their way home from the shopping mall.)

(At that moment, Gogo and Yohan see a man running away with a purse that he has stolen from a woman.)

(Gogo and Yohan start running after the man to catch him.)

Gogo says,

"Yohan, why aren't you running faster? We need to catch that man, or he'll escape."

Yohan replies,

"I haven't run in a long time, so I'm not able to run well."

(At that moment, a girl runs up from behind, jumps over Gogo and Yohan, and knocks them down onto the floor. She then easily catches the man.)

(Gogo and Yohan stared at the girl in astonishment.)

Gogo says,

"We couldn't catch the man because of that girl. She jumped over us and knocked us down, taking all the credit for catching him. It's all your fault. If you had run faster, we would have caught the man before she did."

Yohan replies,

"It's not my fault. I haven't run in a long time, so I couldn't run fast."

(Gogo and Yohan go up to the girl.)

Yohan says,

"You run very fast. What's your name?"

 girl replies,

"Yes, I can run fast. Watching you two, it seemed like a turtle chasing a rabbit. Anyway, if you hadn't caught the man, I would have. and my name is Misako."

Gogo, angrily, says,

"If you hadn't jumped over us, we could have caught the man."

Misako replies,

"When I started running to catch the man, you two were standing in my way, so I had to jump over you."

Gogo says,

"Did we really block your path? We were running from the start to catch the man. Then you suddenly appeared, knocked us down, and caught him."

Yohan says,

"I've never seen you in this city before. Are you from another city?"

Misako replies,

"Yes, I'm not from this city. I'm from another city. I've come here to become a shadow hunter."

Gogo says,

"You're coming to this city to become a shadow hunter? But why do you want to become a shadow hunter? It's rare for people to come from other cities to become a shadow hunter . And what's that in your hand?"

Misako replies,

"This is a katana. Haven't you ever seen a katana befosave

Gogo says,

"I've seen a katana before, but this one looks unusual. What kind of katana is this?"

Misako replies,

"This is a traditional family katana. Is there a special reason needed to become a shadow hunter? I'm here to become a shadow hunter to save human life . And what are you doing with this uncle?"

Yohan, angrily, says,

"I'm not an uncle. My name is Yohan, and I'm only 25 years old. You seem like a child to me. How can such a young girl be a shadow hunter?"

Misako replies,

"Who gave you the courage to call a beautiful girl like me a child?"

(Suddenly, a boy calls out to Misako from a distance and runs up to her.)

Boy says,

misako Where have you been all this time? I've been searching for you throughout the shopping mall. And who are these uncle and the boy?"

Yohan says,

"I'm not an uncle. My name is Yohan. Does everyone think of me as an uncle just by looking at me?"

Gogo says,

"Who is this boy, Misako? Is he your boyfriend?"

Misako replies,

"No, no, he's my cousin. His name is Korosi. How many times do I have to tell you, don't worry too much about me?"

Korosi says,

"It's my duty to ensure your safety, Miss Misako. If something happens to you, what will I tell the family?"

Misako says,

"Oh, I will be fine. You don't need to worry so much. I'm bringing you along so you can learn about the environment outside. You're always just concerned about my safety."

Gogo says,

"Well, seeing how much you both care about each other, it seems to me that you two must love each other."

Misako says,

"There is no love between us. We are just cousins."

Gogo says,

"Is that so?"

Misako says,

"Let's go, Korosi. We have a lot of work to do. There's no point talking to useless people."

(Misako and Korosi leave.)

Korosi says,

"Misako, are you talking about our family relationship again?"

Misako says,

"No, no, I haven't mentioned anything about our relationship."

Korosi says,

"Alright then. Do you remember why you came to be a Shadow Hunter?"

Misako says,

"Yes, I remember clearly."

Yuhan says,

"Let's go home, Gogo. I have a lot of work to do at home. I need to stay up all night finishing this book."

Gogo says,

"Alright, let's head home."

(Gogo drops Yuhan off at home on his motorcycle.)

Yuhan says,

"Okay, see you tomorrow, Gogo. I'll come to tell you about my job interview in the evening."

( At that moment, Yuhan's grandpa, hearing the conversation, came outside.)

Grandpa says,

"Oh, I haven't seen you for a long time. Where have you been all this time? You don't even come to visit Yuhan at home."

Gogo says,

"Due to my dad's illness, I have to manage the shop alone now."

Grandpa says,

"Then join us for dinner tonight."

Gogo says,

"No, Grandpa, I'll come another day for dinner. I have to go now."

(Gogo leaves.)

(Yuhan and Grandpa went inside the house.)

Grandpa says,

"Yuhan, go freshen up. I'll get the dinner ready in the meantime."

(Yuhan went to take a shower.)

Grandpa says,

"Tonight, I'm cooking Yuhan's favorite meal. He'll be amazed when he sees it.

(Yohan has finished bathing.)

Grandpa says:

"Have you bathed? Then come and eat; otherwise, the food will get cold."

(Yohan and Grandpa sit down to eat.)

Yohan says:

"Today, you've made my favorite dish. What's the matter? Did you finally get married or something?"

Grandpa says:

"Oh no, you mentioned in the morning that you'd start some job. That's why I'm making your favorite food today."

(Yohan thinks to himself, "I haven't even decided what job I'll do yet.")

Grandpa says:

"What's wrong, Yohan? Why aren't you eating?"

Yohan says:

"I'm eating.

(Yohan quickly finishes his food and goes to his room.)

Grandpa says:

"What's with him today? He ate so quickly. What's going on?"

(Yohan sits at his study desk and starts reading the book Gogo gave him.)

Yohan says:

"Why are the words in this book so hard? I can't understand anything. What's this about needing to be clean and have no odor before a job interview? What kind of book did Gogo give me? It doesn't say anything about the questions in a job interview. What a useless book. Does anyone even read this?"

(Yohan threw the book away and lay down on the bed.)

(But Yohan thought)

No, I have to get a job no matter what. And Grandpa was very happy that I was going to get a job.

(Then Yohan picked up the book again and started reading.)

(In the deep of the night, Grandpa got up to go to the washroom. He saw that Yohan's room light was on. Grandpa quietly opened the door and saw that Yohan was reading a book. Then Grandpa made coffee for Yohan, left it in front of his door, and went back to sleep.)

(A little while later, Yohan went to the washroom and saw the coffee left there. He picked up the coffee and noticed a note written by Grandpa.)

"Yohan, I'm very happy to see that you're working hard for your job. Enjoy this coffee and keep studying well. But don't stay up too late, or you might not be able to get up in the morning."

(Yohan read Grandpa's note and tears welled up in his eyes.)

Yohan says,

"Grandpa really cares about me. I'll definitely study better."

(Then Yohan started studying with renewed enthusiasm.)

(While studying, Yohan eventually fell asleep at the table.)

(In the morning, Yohan's sleep was suddenly interrupted.)

"Oh, I have a job interview today. I fell asleep at the table while studying all night. I need to get ready quickly."

(Yohan hurriedly washed his face and went to the dining room for breakfast.)

Grandpa says,

"What's the rush today, Yohan? Are you going somewhere?"

Yohan says,

"I have a job interview today, Grandpa. But I woke up late, and there's no time left."

(Yohan left without eating breakfast.)

Grandpa says,

"At least have breakfast before you go."

Yohan says,

"No, Grandpa, there's no time now. I'm leaving."

Yohan was traveling by train for a job interview.

Yohan looked at the mirror inside the train and saw that his hair was messy.

Yohan hurriedly entered an office and ran up to the receptionist, asking, "Can you tell me where the job interview is taking place?"

The woman replied, "Just take this elevator to the second floor, then go left and you'll find it."

Yohan quickly took the elevator to the second floor. As he was heading left after getting out of the elevator, he accidentally bumped into a young man.

( The bump caused the young man to drop all the papers he was holding.)

Yohan says, "Sorry, I didn't see you. Are you okay? Did anything happen?"

The young man replies, "No, no, I'm fine."

(Then the young man starts picking up the scattered papers.)

(As Yohan turns to leave, he sees the young man picking up the papers and yohan decides to help.)

The young man says,

"Are you here for a job interview?"

Yohan says,

"Yes, I'm here for a job interview."

The young man says,

"Then I didn't see any urgent papers in your hands. Are you coming to the job interview without any important documents?"

Yohan says,

"Oh, I didn't know I needed any urgent documents for the interview. Is that what you have there?"

The young man says,

"Yes, you need to bring important documents for your interview. You're the first person I've seen come without any."

Yohan says,

"I didn't know I needed important documents. What should I do now? If I go home to get them, it will be too late."

The young man says,

"It's fine if you didn't know. Just go ahead with the interview and see what questions they ask you first."

Yohan says, "You're right. I can't dwell on this now, or I'll forget everything I've studied for tonight."

(Yohan handed the young man's papers back to him, apologized again, and went for the job interview.)

The young man says, "What a strange person, coming for a job interview without any important documents. I wonder if he'll get the job."

(The young man then left.)

(Yohan entered the interview room and saw several people seated inside.)

(It was evening, and Yohan sat on a park bench, feeling despondent because he hadn't been selected for the job.)

Yohan says,

"After all this effort, I didn't get the job. Do I have no skills at all? Can't I even do a simple job? It seems like I'm destined never to have a job. What will I tell Grandpa when I get home? He has so much hope in me, expecting me to get a job. What will I say to him now? I don't even want to go home. I'll just be a burden to Grandpa. I feel like I have no talent. I can't even protect anyone from a beast."

(At that moment, the young man approaches Yohan and says.)

"Are you the same person who accidentally bumped into me?"

Yohan says,

"You're the same guy. What are you doing here? Didn't you get the job either? Seeing you makes me feel even more down."

(The young man sits down next to Yohan.)

The young man says,

"Yes, I was rejected from the job interview too."

Yohan says,

"But why were you rejected from the job interview? I saw that you were well-prepared and had many important documents with you."

The young man says,

"I was rejected because of my age. They said I'm not old enough to work yet. But why shouldn't I be able to work? Oh, I'm starting to ramble again. Why were you not selected for the job?"

Yohan says,

"I was rejected for many reasons. They said I have no experience and that I wouldn't be able to handle thesays

. "Why would you want to work at such a young age?"

The young man says,

"Family problems."

Yohan says,

"Okay, I understand. You don't need to say more. Everyone has their own problems in life."

The young man says,

"It seems this was your last chance for a job interview."

Yohan says,

"Why did you say this was my last chance?"

The young man  says,

"No, I thought you might be an uncle. That's why I said it might be your last chance."

Yohan says,

"I might look like an uncle, but I'm not that old. This was my first job interview, and it just wasn't meant to be."

The young man  says,

"I thought you were older, but you're actually my age. How old are you?"

Yohan says,

"I'm only 25 years old. My name is Yohan."

The young man  says,

"I'm 19 years old, and my name is Toshi. If you can't get a full-time job, would you consider a part-time one?"

Yohan says,

"Nothing in life is easy. I feel like nothing is possible for me. I'm a useless person. After this job interview, I have no hope of getting a job."

Toshi says,

"If I were in your place, I wouldn't give up after just one attempt. I'd keep trying. We can't expect to get everything on our first try. If it doesn't work out, we'll try again, or keep trying until we succeed."

Yohan says,

"You're right. If I give up so easily, I won't achieve anything in life. I need to try again."

(Yohan thinks to himself, "If I give up now, what will I tell Grandpa and Gogo? Just because I didn't succeed this time doesn't mean I won't succeed later. I'll find other opportunities.")

Toshi says,

"That's the spirit. I've decided I need to learn a lot more about the job market. After that, I'll go for another job interview."

Yohan says,

"So what will you do now? Will you go home, or will you prepare further for the job interview?"
