Chapter 3 - chapter 3

Toshi replies,

"Right now, I will try to find a part-time job. After that, I'll try for a full-time job. What will you do now? Aren't you doing any job? Even at your age, you aren't working. You never even tried. If I were at your age, I would have had some job by now. You just live off the family money and roam around."

Yohan says,

"You are right; I've never given a job interview before. I've only been wandering around. But not anymore. I've decided that I will work harder now and achieve something. You are right that people cannot achieve success on the first try. Seeing your enthusiasm gives me hope that I can achieve something too."

Toshi says,

"Are you still single?"

Yohan says,

"Yes, do you think I am some kind of playboy? I rarely talk to girls in my life. You're newly an adult, so you're full of energy. When you reach our age, you'll understand what it's like to not have a job."

Toshi says,

"That will be seen. Well, goodbye, uncle, I have to go now."

Yohan says,

"Alright, if it's meant to be, we'll meet again.

(Toshi left.)

(Yohan was heading home by train.)

(When Yohan was walking down the road towards home)

Yohan says,

"Now that I'm home, what will I tell Grandpa? I haven't gotten any job. I'm embarrassed to face Grandpa. How will I go home? It's already very late, and I can't go to Gogo's house now. What should I do? I don't like any of this anymore."

(Doing this, Yohan saw that he had arrived in front of his house.)

(Yohan sneaks up to the door and sits there. He says.)

"I have to stay here tonight. I'm not going inside the house today."

Upon hearing Yohan's voice, Grandpa opens the door and says,

"What happened, Yohan? Why are you sitting in front of the door? Why aren't you coming inside? I've been so worried about you. Come in, and quickly take a bath . I'm getting dinner ready."

Yohan says, "Grandpa, I need to tell you something. I have a job interview—"

Grandpa interrupts, "I'm not listening to anything right now "Go take a shower first. then we'll talk later. You didn't eat anything this morning either."

(Yohan goes to take a shower.)

While showering, Yohan thinks, "Grandpa didn't listen to me at all. I don't understand why he didn't ask anything about my job interview."

( While Grandpa is preparing dinner)

(Yohan finishes showering, and then they sit down to dinner.)

Yohan thought to himself,

"Why is Grandpa so quiet today? He isn't saying anything. Usually, during meals, he gives me advice. What could be wrong today?"

Grandpa says,

"What's wrong, Yohan? Why aren't you eating?"

(After they've finished eating)

Yohan says,

"Grandpa, why didn't you ask me about my job interview today? When I tried to tell you, you didn't listen. You think I'm useless, "Isn't that so?"? You're right, I'm incapable of doing anything. I can't achieve anything."

Grandpa replies,

"When I saw you sitting in front of the door, I understood that you didn't get the job. I didn't ask you anything because if I had, it would have made you even more embarrassed. That's why I didn't bring it up."

Yohan says,

"What difference does it make? For a useless person like me, feeling embarrassed or not doesn't matter. I won't achieve anything in my life."

Grandpa replies,

"What are you saying? I'm happy that you're making an effort to get a job. It doesn't matter that you didn't get the job; there's no problem with that."

Yohan says,

"But Grandpa—"

Grandpa replies,

"Listen, Yohan, you don't achieve success right away in life. If you haven't succeeded this time, it's okay; you can try again. If you put in effort, you will be able to accomplish something. And Yohan, if you want a job, why aren't you doing any part-time work?" With that, Grandpa went to sleep.

(Yohan went to his own room.)

(Yohan, lying down, starts thinking, "Tomorrow, I will look for a part-time job.")

(Then Yohan falls asleep.)

(Meanwhile)

(Captain's Office, 1st Headquarters of the Shadow Hunters)

Captain Yami says,

"How many people have applied to become Shadow Hunters this year?"

Captain Satoshi replies,

"Many have applied this year. Here are the application forms."

(Captain Yami begins reviewing the application forms.)

"Wow, I see some very good candidates this time."

(Captain Yami is amazed as he sees three applications and says, "This time, we have candidates from three clans. We are going to get some of the strongest Shadow Hunters.")

Captain Satoshi says,

"This training will be very exciting and I will have to make it even tougher, as the candidates are very strong this time."

(Captain Yami spots one application form and says, "So this time, a candidate from the Hinua clan is joining. Finally, you are coming, Mizuku Hinua.")

Captain Satoshi asks,

"Did you say something, Captain?"

Captain Yami replies,

"No, I didn't say anything. Where is Vice Captain Mizuku?"

Captain Satoshi responds,

"The Shadow Beast is attacking the northern part of the city; the Vice Captain is there."

(The next morning)

(Yohan starts working at a grocery store.)

Yohan says,

"Thank you for giving me this job. I will do my work sincerely and to the best of my ability."

Shop owner replies,

"Oh, it's nothing. I didn't have anyone to lift the heavy items for the shop. But if you can handle arranging these, that's great. Otherwise, I might have to call someone else."

Yohan says,

"I'm enough on my own. I'll arrange everything."

(Yohan starts arranging the items.)

(Yohan looks at the boxes.)

Yohan says,

"I can manage on my own, but how will I arrange so many boxes? Can a single person ever arrange all this?"

Yohan says,

While lifting the boxes, "Why are these boxes so heavy? Let me see what's inside. Are these new food cans or something else? Why are they so heavy?"

(Yohan struggles to arrange the items.)

(While Yohan is arranging the items, the shop owner says,)

"Yohan, could you go to the counter for a moment? There's no one there. This shop gets such strange items sometimes."

Yohan says,

"Yes, I'm arranging these items."

(Yohan quickly finishes arranging the items and goes to the counter.)

Yohan says,

"Thank you, and please come again."

(Yohan thinks to himself),

"Look at where I wanted to be and what I'm doing now. Thankfully, I learned how to work at the counter at the Gogo store; otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to handle this."

(With that, Yohan completes his first day of the part-time job.)

Yohan heads home after work.

Yohan says:

"Today I am working a lot. I am very tired. I am so tired that I can't even go home. The shop owner made me do a lot of work today."

(At that moment, gogo was calling Yohan from behind.)

(Gogo approaches Yohan and says, "What's wrong, Yohan? Can't you hear me?")

(Yohan turns around and looks at Gogo.)

Gogo sees Yohan and, out of concern, asks, "What happened, Yohan? Why do you look so exhausted today?"

Yohan says,

"Starting today, I began a part-time job, and on the very first day, my boss gave me a ton of work. I was so busy with that work that I ended up exhausted."

Gogo says,

"Oh, this is nothing. These are just ordinary tasks at the grocery store."

Yohan says,

"It might be ordinary for you, but not for me. If I keep doing these tasks, I'm sure I'll die. Where were you coming from just now?"

Gogo says,

"I just went to deliver a parcel to a house."

(Yohan's stomach grumbles due to hunger.)

Gogo says,

"Yohan, haven't you eaten anything yet? I can hear your stomach growling."

Yohan says,

"In the rush of work, I forgot to have lunch. And I'm really hungry."

Gogo says,

"Let's go, Yohan. We'll get something to eat somewhere. I'm hungry too."

(Yohan and Gogo went to a ramen shop.)

(After entering the ramen shop, Yohan says, "There are a lot of people here eating ramen.")

Gogo says,

"The ramen here is very delicious."

Yohan says,

"Is that so?"

(Yohan and Gogo sit at a table, and Gogo orders ramen.)

Yohan says,

"Gogo, are you going to work at your dad's shop and not do any other job?"

Gogo says,

"I told you before that I want to be a shadow hunter. That's why I'm working out a lot, so I can become a shadow hunter."

Yohan says,

"Why do you want to be a shadow hunter? There are many other jobs, and being a shadow hunter involves a lot of risk."

Gogo says,

"I want to be a shadow hunter because, when I was 8 years old, my whole family went on a trip and we were having a great time. But suddenly, a beast attacked us. When the beasts started attacking, my mom pushed me out of the way to save me. I survived, but the beasts attacked and killed my mom, and severely injured my dad. We were almost dead when a shadow hunter came and saved us. By then, it was too late; the beasts had already swallowed my mom. From that moment, I decided I needed to become a shadow hunter to protect others from the same fate. I don't want anyone else to lose their mom like I did. That's why I've decided to become a shadow hunter."

(The waiter arrives with their ramen.)

Waiter says,

"Here's your ramen."

Yohan says,

"The ramen looks good."

Gogo says,

"It looks good and tastes good too. Aren't you enjoying it?"

(Yohan starts eating, but winces and hisses due to the spiciness.)

Yohan says,

"This ramen is so spicy! It doesn't look spicy, but it's really hot. I can't handle this much spice."

Gogo says,

"If you can't finish the ramen, you'll have to pay the bill."

Yohan says,

"And if I finish it, who will pay the bill?"

Gogo says,

"Then I'll pay the bill."

Yohan says,

"How much is this ramen?"

Gogo says,

"5000 yen."

Yohan says,

"What? This ramen costs 5000 yen? What are you saying? I usually eat ramen that costs at most 1000 yen. And you made me eat such an expensive ramen. I have to finish it no matter what, otherwise I'm done for."

(Yohan starts eating the ramen, and tears start streaming down his face due to the spiciness.)

Yohan, eating, says,

"It's so spicy, I can't eat anymore, but I'll still try."

(Yohan struggles through the ramen, his face turning red from the heat.)

Yohan says,

"Where's the water? I'm burning up. Gogo, why did you drink my water? Bring me some water quickly."

Gogo says,

"I didn't drink your water on purpose; mine was finished, so I drank yours."

Yohan says,

"Stop talking and get me some water."

Gogo says,

"Okay, I'm getting it."

(Gogo goes to get the water but returns with a beer can. Yohan, not noticing, drinks it quickly due to the spiciness.)

Gogo says,

"Here's the water."

(Yohan, not seeing the beer can, drinks it thinking it's water.)

Yohan says,

"What's this? I asked for water, not a beer can."

Gogo says,

"There was no water, so I brought a beer can instead."

Yohan says,

"It seems you only looked in one place. I asked for water, and you brought a beer can."

(Yohan starts to feel dizzy and unsteady on his feet.)

Yohan says,

"Why is everything spinning around me? Why is my head feeling dizzy?"

Gogo says,

"You're starting to react to the beer."

Yohan says,

"React to what?"

Gogo says,

"The reaction to drinking the beer."

(Yohan, now drunk, starts speaking incoherently.)

Yohan says,

"Hey Gogo, what are you doing here, and why am I here? What are you trying to do to me? You know, I need to kiss you hard."

(Yohan, in his drunken state, tries to kiss Gogo.)

Gogo says,

"Yohan, what are you doing? You're completely drunk. Don't come near me, or I'll really get angry."

(When Yohan tries to kiss Gogo, she pushes him away.)

Gogo says,

"We need to leave right now, or this idiot will just make things worse."

(Gogo quickly pays the bill and leaves the shop.)
