Jolyn's pov
I abruptly sat up, eyes widening in horror. "Rules? What rules?"
"The rule about showing your wolf form," Bailey explained. "We're not supposed to reveal it unless we're allowed to. Please don't do that again. No one else should know."
I was surprised. I didn't realize there was a rule against using our wolf forms, especially if it was to help someone.
But that was why we are werewolves right?
But I understood I needed to follow the rules, so I didn't press the matter further.
Time seemed to fly by as I worried about Ryner and last night's events. Bailey and I stayed in the dorm, avoiding any more trouble. That is until a knock on the door brought us back to reality. I looked at Bailey.
"Lucious," she said, glancing at her phone.
"Should I answer it?" I asked.
She nodded. I opened the door to find Lucious standing there, his expression showing that he knew something about last night.
"What do you need?" I asked, trying to stay calm.
"What did you do last night?" His voice was serious, and he walked into the room without waiting for an invitation. I saw Bailey moving closer to us.
"What did you do last night, Jolyn?!" Lucious's voice echoed angrily. This was the first time I had seen him so upset.
I bit my lip, trying to hold back tears.
"She didn't know there were rules," Bailey said quickly. "I've explained them to her, and she won't make that mistake again."
"I know, Bailey. But I'm talking to both of you."
"No, it was my fault," I said immediately. "I just wanted to help that woman. I didn't know about the rules."
Lucious crossed his arms and looked away, clearly frustrated. We waited for him to say more about our mistake.
"It's good that no one else saw you. Don't do it again. It affects your family's reputation too. Be careful. Sometimes people can deceive you," he warned.
I was confused. Who would want to deceive me?
"And you, Bailey," Lucious continued, "try to control your cravings, especially when it's hard to get what you want at night."
"I didn't expect things to turn out like this," Bailey said.
"From now on, I need to know whenever you two go out. Got it?"
Neither Bailey nor I responded. I felt frustrated. I knew I had made a mistake, but I didn't like being controlled.
"So, you're not going to respond?" Lucious asked.
Before I could say anything, Bailey spoke up. "Because we didn't want to."
Lucious shook his head, clearly disappointed.
"Sorry for what I did, but Bailey is right. We didn't want our plans and decisions to be overridden."
My parents never treated me like this. I knew I had made a mistake, but I thought I could handle things without being controlled.
Lucious sighed deeply. "Okay, but be more careful next time. I'm just trying to protect you. I don't want you to get hurt."
I looked into his eyes, feeling a mix of emotions. Despite his concern, my feelings for Ryner were stronger than ever. It was clear that my heart still belonged to him, even if it wasn't the best choice for me. Maybe Ryner had moved on, and I was just a forgotten part of his past.
Lucious's gaze softened. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
I quickly turned my eyes to Bailey, who was laughing at Lucious's comment.
"Don't get the wrong idea. I was just hungry and wanted to see if you wanted to join us outside."
"I'm hungry too," Lucious said and headed towards the kitchen. I was left standing alone by the door.
Now that I knew revealing our wolf forms had serious consequences, I promised myself to be more careful in the future. I hoped that last night's mistake would be the last one I made, and that I wouldn't see Ryner again.
I loved him, but I wanted to be free to find someone who truly deserved my love.
In the blink of an eye, the sun had gone down and even had rained down on the lands.
"Jolyn, come and join us." Bailey invited calmly.
I snapped my head up and saw her looking at me with so much concern.
It pricked my heart that I was making her worry, but I couldn't help it.
My eyes flickered gently as I stared at her before moving past her shoulders to see Lucious, who still had the same concerned look as his sister.
How long had I zoned out? I pondered.
"Jolyn!" Bailey called out again, and I woke from my trance, giving her a smile that was supposed to assure her I was fine, but she didn't look like she was buying it.
"Are you okay?" she asked, her voice full of concern.
The thought of Ryner still haunted me, but I tried my best to give Bailey a reassuring smile.
"The food is ready, it's time to eat," Bailey said, placing a hand on my back and giving me the slight push I needed to step back into reality.
I nodded and forced a smile, following Bailey into the dining room where the others were already seated.
The warm aroma of food filled the air, and I heard my stomach growl in anticipation, but it did nothing to settle the unease in my chest.
My mind was still clouded with thoughts of Ryner—his disappearance, and the way things had ended.
I could feel faint anger welling up inside me, but I clenched my fists to keep my emotions at bay.
Bailey took her seat beside me, keeping a watchful eye on me as if I might crumble at any moment.
Lucious sat across the table, his gaze flickering between his sister and me. He was quiet, but I could sense his concern without him needing to say anything.
I had a feeling he wanted to ramble on about me shifting on school premises, but I was in no mood. I could entertain his cocky nature, but not just today.
