Chapter 4 - I trust you won’t disappoint me then

"Haha, did I scare you?" asked the prince with an amused smile on his face, making Emilia blush. "Of course, you wouldn't be an inflicted spy. We researched your entire history before you came here."

"Y-yes, of course," stammered Emilia, turning her attention back to the books.

The day passed without much happening. But the girl knew that soon urgent news would arrive, informing about the revolution of the miners. This revolt would be the starting point for the kingdom's first conflicts, such as the difficulty in maintaining contracts with other countries and agreements related to the precious jewels so often promised by the king.

"I can't remember exactly if it was this month or the next... In my past life, I hadn't even discovered my power yet... I wonder if Oliver has already discovered his." With these thoughts, Emilia went for a walk through the local woods as evening fell.

Tomorrow would be a new day, and she longed to see her family once again. Part of her still wondered if it was all just a dream, but the vivid memories of her past life and the bad feelings that came when she remembered her death tormented her.

"A young human shouldn't be walking alone when the shadow covers the sky," said a calm, serene voice. Emilia looked to the side and found herself face to face with a middle-aged man, with dark hair and tired eyes. He had long elven ears and wore a long cloak.

"Your Majesty," Emilia curtsied to the king, who gave her a kind look.

During her previous life, Emilia had never been so close to King Lasgol. It was impressive to be near such a strong figure, one who represented his kingdom so resolutely.

"There's no need for such formality," the king said, though he was grateful for the gesture. "I see you're new here. Are you the new librarian that Edward mentioned?"

"Yes, sir," Emilia replied. "My name is Emilia Carter. It's a pleasure to meet you, sir."

"Emilia, I didn't come here without a reason. I have a request for you," Lasgol said. "I ask that you watch over my son Arthur. He may be strict, but he is a good boy."

"I will, sir," Emilia responded. This had already been her plan ever since she discovered that the prince had intentions regarding the library.

"I trust you won't disappoint me then," the king replied with a smile, and disappeared.

"Teleportation…" Emilia thought. "One of Lasgol's many powers... Incredible!"
