As the first rays of sunlight appeared on the horizon, Emília knew it was time to spend some moments with her family.
She had the freedom to spend her mornings at her parents' house, but the desire to prevent the war and the need to not leave Arthur alone were stronger.
— Stay until lunch! — her mother begged once again, but Emília just shook her head.
— I have some matters to take care of at the library — Emília said, her heart heavy. She wanted to enjoy as much time as possible with them, but she knew that could jeopardize everyone's future.
— Emília is right, humans without powers have to work hard! — her father said, encouraging her. She smiled, feeling guilty once more for not sharing her ability with her family. — But this young man here still needs to figure out what path to take!
Oliver blushed, looking away when he noticed Emília was watching him.
— I'm sure I won't have powers either — Oliver said, frowning. Emília smiled gently at him, but he didn't respond.
When it was time to return to the library, Oliver called Emília over.
— You're up to something — he said, with a serious look.
— I'm not! — Emília replied, pretending to be clueless.
— I know you — Oliver insisted in a firm tone. — I may have come after you, but I know when you're doing something you don't want others to find out about.
He was right; Oliver knew Emília well. When their parents found Oliver, before adopting him, he was just another street kid, but his quick skills and sharp mind for his age soon stood out. Shortly after, Emília arrived, and Oliver quickly became a helpful and protective brother. Perhaps because he had known her for so long, Oliver understood Emília's behavior perfectly.
— Oliver... I can't tell you in detail what I'm doing at the library — Emília began — but what I can tell you is that I'm doing this for you all.
Oliver stared at her for a moment before extending his pinky finger to his sister, who looked at him, confused.
— Promise me you'll take care of yourself until you can tell me everything? — he asked, waiting for her answer.
— I promise!
With the pinky promise sealed, Emília left, leaving Oliver with a heavy heart, worried about his sister's safety.
When Emília arrived at the library, she was greeted by a huge mess. Books were scattered on the floor, and mud was everywhere.
— What happened here? — she asked Edward, who had his hands on his head in utter despair.
— My dog... I need to get him!
— I've already taken care of it — Arthur appeared, shaking his head at Edward. — Emília, can you clean up this mess?
— Sure.
Emília began to organize everything that was out of place. She managed to salvage some books, but others had to be thrown away, as they were beyond restoration. Finally, she had finished and could rest. She walked down the hall towards her room when she heard voices.
— The Otonto Empire needs this information, do you hear me? — Arthur's voice sounded serious, and then he paused.
Emília hid and held her breath.
— I think it was just a rat.
