The Island of Blastoise is an island located on the route between Fuchsia City and Cinnabar Island. It was discovered when the League opened a new route.
Because of the large number of Blastoise inhabiting the island, part of it was developed while retaining their living environment to the greatest extent possible, and a part of the island was developed for human life.
At the same time, to better cultivate the Squirtle that were given to Rookie Trainers, the League also sent people to stay here.
To offset the expenses, the League also developed this place as a tourist attraction. However, to avoid damaging the Blastoise habitat, only ships traveling from Fuchsia City to Cinnabar Island, or vice-versa, are allowed to dock, and only after purchasing a specific S.S. Ticket.
After nearly three hours of sailing, the ship gradually approached the island. Although the island was not very large, it wasn't small either. From a distance, a lot of turtle shells were visible on the beach.
"So many turtle shells!"
Passengers standing on the deck and watching were amazed.
Although the number of turtle shells on the beach was only a small part of the entire island, a rough count revealed at least a hundred. In other words, there were more than 100 Blastoise on the beach.
"But... why are they retracted into their shells?" The passengers were curious, but no one on the ship explained, and the group could only understand it after landing on the island.
A few minutes later, the ship docked, and Ash and his group followed the passengers and disembarked at the harbor under the guidance of the staff.
The harbor was a rocky road extending from the island, with beaches and shallow seas on both sides. On the way into the island, some Water-type Pokémon could be seen floating on the sea surface, including many Squirtle and Wartortle.
"Everyone, lunch is ready. The dining time is two hours. Please do not leave the designated area within this time." A dozen staff members on the island led the passengers to the dining area.
Because there were nearly 300 passengers, they were divided into three groups. Ash and his friends were in the second group, so while the first group went to eat, the second and third groups were taken by the staff to visit other places.
"Hello, I'd like to know why the Blastoise on the beach retracted into their shells?" Ash asked a staff member as they were led on a tour.
Ash's question naturally caught the attention of others, as they were also curious.
"It's because they are resting..." The staff member smiled; this question was asked every time, but he didn't feel impatient. It was an interesting phenomenon.
"Resting on the beach, basking in the sun at noon...?" Brock was taken aback. He didn't know that the Blastoise had such a habit, so he immediately made a note of it.
"Yes, this is also part of our training method." The staff explained the principle while introducing it.
To ensure the Squirtles donated to Rookie Trainers had better physical fitness, in addition to the usual exercise, taking a nap on the beach at noon was also key.
The Blastoise family had good Species Strength in terms of defense and special defense, and maximizing it naturally required a better physique. Sun exposure could promote the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, thereby promoting bone formation, which could make Squirtle stronger and aid in better growth.
"So that's how it is..." Upon understanding this, everyone suddenly realized that although it was common knowledge, few people would notice it.
Brock even thought about it thoughtfully. It seemed that cultivating Pokémon wasn't as simple as relying on food and exercise methods, but even incorporating elements of daily life.
Next, the staff took them to the training area. Because it was noon, the breeders weren't training the Squirtles, but there were still some Squirtles engaged in battles, even Wartortles.
Of course, there were two or three Blastoise watching from the side, ready to intervene if there were any accidents.
"Can they fight on their own?" A passenger curiously looked at these battling Squirtles and asked the staff.
"This is training, and some Squirtles with a more aggressive personality will do this." The staff member said with some exasperation. The main reason was that these Squirtles that engaged in extra battles were usually not the ones chosen by the League to give to Rookie Trainers.
These combative Squirtle are actually very good beginner Pokémon; after all, they have extraordinary combat awareness. If given to a Rookie Trainer, they could help them adapt to battle very well.
However, the Blastoise on the island will not allow these aggressive Squirtle to leave. Instead, they let them stay on the island and follow them for training until they evolve into Blastoise. They may then stay on the island to train the next generation or leave to explore the outside world.
The Blastoise family had already adapted to the strangers visiting the island, and after briefly looking at Ash and the others, they refocused on the battle.
"Everyone, if you are interested in battling the Pokémon on the island, it is also possible," a staff member announced after the two Squirtle in the battlefield had determined a winner.
"In addition to Squirtle, you can all challenge Wartortle and Blastoise. If you win the challenge and they are willing to follow you, you can take them with you.
When a Trainer chooses a Pokémon, the Pokémon is also choosing its Trainer. Most of the Wartortle and Blastoise who stayed on the island feel this way."
"Really?" A trainer's eyes lit up. He had his eye on a Blastoise watching the match from the sidelines. After learning of this opportunity, he immediately walked out.
"Of course, no problem," the staff member said with a smile; this was a tradition that had continued for a long time.
After receiving confirmation, the Trainer walked towards a larger Blastoise in the arena. This was the one he had taken a fancy to. He couldn't tell its strength level, but it was at least above the Bronze level!
After being targeted, Blastoise glanced at the Trainer plainly when it noticed him approaching. When the Trainer challenged it, there was a mocking smile on its face.
The other two Blastoise nearby felt the same way. The other Wartortle and Squirtle looked surprised, apparently not expecting someone to challenge this Blastoise.
Ash didn't expect the trainer to target this Blastoise. Even without the system interface, Ash could tell that the strength of this Blastoise had reached the Gym level. He had seen it since he landed on the island. This was the most powerful Blastoise!
