The battle was over soon. The Trainer, who had been confident in his ability to defeat Blastoise, returned to the queue, head lowered, embarrassed to meet anyone's eyes.
His six Pokémon, two of which were Electric-types at a type disadvantage, had failed to defeat Blastoise. The Trainer felt ashamed.
But the other passengers didn't look down on him. Instead, they were surprised by Blastoise's strength. It was just one Blastoise on the island, yet it was so powerful. In just a few minutes, it had defeated the Trainer's six Pokémon!
"Everyone, this Blastoise is currently one of the most powerful Blastoise on the island. Its strength has reached the Gym level. When he first chose it as his target, he made the wrong choice." The staff member finally spoke up.
He hadn't given a warning at the start to let the passengers know that the Pokémon on this island weren't as simple as they seemed, and that they shouldn't underestimate them.
Upon learning that Blastoise's strength was at the Gym level, the Trainer who had challenged it raised his head in shock. He'd thought Blastoise might be strong, but only at the Bronze level. He hadn't expected it to be Gym level!
"Is there anyone else who wants to challenge?" the staff member asked, glancing at the passengers. It was a routine question, and he didn't expect anyone who'd seen Blastoise's strength to volunteer.
"Me!" Ash stepped forward. Brock and Misty looked astonished, because they knew Ash already had a Wartortle. Did he want to catch another Blastoise?
"Huh…?" The staff member looked at Ash in astonishment. After seeing Pikachu on Ash's shoulder, he seemed to understand Ash's thoughts. Electric-types were strong against Water-types, and Pikachu had reached the Bronze level. It would have no problem challenging a Wartortle.
But then, Ash surprised the staff and passengers again by choosing to challenge the same Blastoise that had just battled, the one at the Gym level!
Blastoise was a little surprised to be challenged again, but quickly calmed down. Did this Trainer think that after defeating those six Pokémon, he had nothing left to prove?
Even if he wasn't at full strength, he was confident he could defeat this Trainer's Pikachu.
"Blastoise, come and fight me! One on one!" Ash didn't want to catch Blastoise; his purpose was simple: to help Wartortle grow through this battle!
Of his current team, Wartortle was the weakest, even Haunter was slightly stronger.
Ash didn't expect to win this battle. He just wanted Wartortle to learn something from its evolved form. If possible, it would be best if Wartortle could learn Hydro Pump in this battle.
Hearing Ash's challenge, Blastoise was slightly taken aback, and then he understood. A smile of interest appeared on his face.
Ash didn't want to catch him, he simply wanted to battle…
After the two sides moved a certain distance apart to form a battlefield, Ash put Pikachu down and threw a Poké Ball. "Wartortle, it's up to you!"
The Poké Ball opened, releasing a white light. After the light dispersed, Wartortle appeared.
"Wartortle!" Seeing Blastoise, Wartortle was slightly startled, but quickly reacted and took a fighting stance.
"Wartortle, just do your best to fight." There was no need to hold back. Ash spoke to Wartortle telepathically.
"Wartortle!" Wartortle responded, its eyes locked on Blastoise. It could feel that Blastoise was much stronger than itself.
Blastoise, seeing that Ash had sent out Wartortle, understood and smiled even wider. He didn't dislike this kind of situation at all.
Teaching the younger generation was why he stayed on the island!
The passengers gradually understood Ash's thoughts, either on their own or from those around them. They were amazed, especially the Trainer from before…
After learning how powerful Blastoise was, Ash hadn't backed down. He even wanted to use Blastoise to train his Pokémon. It was a perspective the Trainer hadn't considered.
"Wartortle, use Water Pulse!" Water-type moves used against Water-type Pokémon were not very effective, but Ash wasn't focused on winning or losing, only on training.
He wanted Wartortle to show its strength as much as possible, and let Blastoise provide guidance. That was the most important thing.
Wartortle gathered Water-type energy, clasping its hands in front of it.
The Water-type energy surged, and Wartortle clasped its hands in front of it. A large amount of energy compressed into a ball of water, which then fell to the ground and transformed into a two-meter-high wave, rushing towards Blastoise!
Blastoise's eyes lit up. Although Wartortle's strength was only at the Bronze level, it was very skilled at using moves. It was clear that Wartortle had been trained very well. At least in terms of Water Pulse, Blastoise couldn't compare.
Blastoise didn't intend to rely on its strength to break the Water Pulse attack. It retracted its entire body into its shell and spun rapidly. When the water wave crashed down, Blastoise used centrifugal force to spin most of the wave away, and its body only received minimal damage!
"Rapid Spin..." Ash, who witnessed this scene, nodded slightly. Even though Rapid Spin was an offensive move, it could also be used defensively, and Wartortle would naturally learn it.
After seeing Blastoise use Rapid Spin, Wartortle was inspired and became more serious.
Next, Wartortle continued to use various moves to attack, while Blastoise used various techniques to resist, defending against attacks with minimal effort and even counterattacking.
After Wartortle had used all its moves, Ash didn't issue another command. Instead, he looked at Blastoise. "Blastoise, please use Hydro Pump on Wartortle!"
"Blast?!" Blastoise was taken aback, not expecting Ash to make such a request.
"Wartortle is currently learning Hydro Pump, so I want it to experience the power of Hydro Pump firsthand. Maybe it can be inspired and learn the move!" Ash explained.
"Wartortle!" Wartortle nodded vigorously. It also wanted to experience the power of Hydro Pump!
