Chapter 2 - [echoes of connection]

(Few years earlier)

Love—was this the person I had been longing for? Today, I stood beside him, but he didn't even notice me. We arrived together, yet I felt invisible. This overwhelming desire to spend time with him, this yearning for his attention—was it love or merely affection?

I paused,my pen hovering over the page my thoughts swirling yet I heard a familiar call.

"Ana, what are you doing here? I've been looking for you everywhere. Daniel is in the café—that's your chance to get along with him."

I glanced at her, my only friend since I joined college. Despite my struggle with making friends, she had somehow found her way into my life and stayed. Her encouragement was a lifeline, and I couldn't deny the excitement that fluttered in my chest at the mention of Daniel's name.

I smiled weakly, closing my diary ,feeling a mixture of nervousness and anticipation. "Do you really think I should go talk to him?"

She nodded enthusiastically. "Absolutely! He's always been friendly to you. You never know, he might feel the same way."

Taking a deep breath, I gathered my courage. Daniel had always seemed kind and approachable, yet I couldn't shake the fear of rejection. With a final nod from my friend, I made my way to the café, my heart pounding in my chest.

As I entered, the warm aroma of coffee enveloped me, and there he was, sitting by the window, lost in a book. For a moment, I hesitated, but then I reminded myself of the fleeting nature of opportunities.

"Hi, Daniel," I said, my voice trembling slightly.

He looked up, his eyes lighting up with recognition. "Oh, hi Ana! Want to join me?"

I smiled, relief washing over me. Maybe, just maybe, this was the beginning of something beautiful.

As we talked, I felt a connection forming, each word weaving a delicate thread between us. The hours slipped away unnoticed, and for the first time in a long while, I felt seen and heard. His laughter was a melody that echoed in my heart, and his stories painted vivid pictures of a life I wanted to be a part of.

Yet, as the evening drew to a close, a lingering doubt shadowed my thoughts. Would this moment last, or would it fade into the background of unfulfilled dreams? The uncertainty gnawed at me, but I held onto the hope that this was just the beginning.
