Chapter 4 - [reflections]

As I lay in bed, my mind drifted back to the early days of my relationship with Daniel. Each memory was a precious gem, glittering in the recesses of my heart. The first time he held my hand, the way he looked at me when he thought I wasn't watching, the gentle kiss he placed on my forehead when he thought I was asleep—all these moments defined our love.

But amidst these beautiful memories, a shadow loomed. Recently, things had felt different. Daniel seemed distant, distracted. The conversations that once flowed so effortlessly now felt strained. I couldn't pinpoint when it started, but the change was undeniable.

The next day, I decided to confront these feelings head-on. I needed clarity. As I made my way to the café where Daniel and I often met, my heart raced with a mixture of hope and dread. I replayed our last conversation in my mind, searching for clues that could explain his recent behavior.

When I arrived, I found him sitting at our usual table, staring out the window. His face lit up when he saw me, but there was a flicker of something in his eyes—was it guilt?

"Hi," I said, sliding into the seat across from him.

"Hey, Ana," he replied, his smile not quite reaching his eyes.

We made small talk for a while, the usual ease between us replaced by an awkward tension. I couldn't take it any longer.

"Daniel, is everything okay?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

He looked taken aback, as if he hadn't expected the question. "Yeah, why wouldn't it be?"

"I don't know, you just seem... distant lately. Is something bothering you?"

He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "It's nothing, really. Just a lot on my mind."

His vague response did little to alleviate my concerns. I reached across the table, taking his hand in mine. "You know you can talk to me about anything, right?"

He nodded, but his eyes were elsewhere, lost in thought. "I know, Ana. I promise, everything's fine."

But as we parted ways that evening, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. I resolved to give him space, hoping he would open up to me when he was ready.

In the following days, I threw myself into my studies, trying to distract myself from the growing unease. Yet, no matter how busy I kept myself, thoughts of Daniel were never far from my mind.

One afternoon, as I was leaving a lecture, my phone buzzed with a message from him. "Can we talk? Meet me at the park."

My heart skipped a beat. Was this the moment of truth? I quickly made my way to the park, anxiety and anticipation warring within me.

When I arrived, I found Daniel sitting on a bench, looking more serious than I had ever seen him. I sat down beside him, bracing myself for whatever he had to say.

"Ana, there's something I need to tell you," he began, his voice heavy with emotion....
