Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: The Lost White Dragon (rewrite)

Even with Morgan's magical support, the situation was dire. The intensity of the battle had taken its toll on Lott, evident from the sweat forming on his brow. This opponent is truly formidable, he thought. He needed to help Morgan, who was visibly anxious.

Morgan, understanding the gravity of the situation, knew her current magical abilities weren't enough to turn the tide. I need a chance to make a decisive move, she mused. There might be something that could help, but I need an opportunity to access it.

With a determined glint in her eyes, Morgan advanced towards Vortigern. She recalled the taunting tactics Lott had taught her and used them now. "Hey, Thief Sun!" she shouted, aiming to distract Vortigern.

The taunts worked as intended; Vortigern's attention momentarily shifted. Seizing the moment, Morgan unleashed a blinding flash of light from her staff. The sudden burst of brilliance forced Vortigern to squint and momentarily lose focus.

Although Vortigern was unimpressed by the flash, which he deemed a minor inconvenience, Lott seized the opportunity. He drew a special weapon from his armament—a device intended for precise strikes. Despite its limited effectiveness against Vortigern, its impact was undeniable.

Boom!

A soft yet impactful shot rang out, narrowly grazing Vortigern's cheek. Vortigern, sensing danger, dodged the projectile but felt the sting of the near miss. He retreated swiftly, and as the flash faded, Lott and Morgan made their escape. Lott, holding Morgan in a protective embrace, mounted his horse and fled the scene.

As they rode away, Vortigern watched in frustration. The granary, once a vital resource, was now engulfed in flames. The sight of the burning supplies fueled his anger further.

"From now on, don't let me see these two again. If I do, I will make sure to kill them," Vortigern vowed through gritted teeth. He was incensed by the audacious attack, perceiving both Morgan's magic and Lott's hidden weapon as underhanded tactics.

Celebration and Reflection

From a safe distance, Lott and Morgan watched the aftermath of their successful operation. Their expressions were filled with wild joy, having accomplished their goal. They had managed to defeat Vortigern, and the destruction of his supplies would significantly delay any further attacks.

Lott, relieved and elated, thought about relaxing. Finally, I can enjoy some time off and maybe even go fishing, he mused. However, Morgan, catching his thoughts, had mixed feelings.

If Lott wanted a break after their victory, Morgan was willing to indulge him, but she had her terms. He can enjoy some time off, but only after I've made my point clear, she thought. Her possessiveness and pride in their relationship made her determined to ensure that their victories and spoils were exclusively theirs.

She then turned her attention back to Lott. "By the way, Morgan, how did you manage to cover for me so effectively during the fight?" Lott asked, intrigued by their seamless coordination.

Morgan smiled triumphantly. "It's because our hearts are connected. I saw you preparing to attack and knew exactly what to do to support you. You can always trust me to have your back."

"What if I had missed my shot?" Lott inquired, concerned.

Morgan's confidence was unwavering. "I believe you wouldn't miss," she said firmly.

Lott's smile grew at her faith in him. Morgan is so adorable and supportive, he thought.

Morgan's eyes narrowed playfully. "Lott, extend your arm."

Confused, Lott complied. Morgan proceeded to unfasten his armour and, with a mischievous grin, gave his arm a playful bite.

"Hey, what's this about?" Lott exclaimed, bewildered by her sudden action.

"I felt like you were mentally scolding me," Morgan replied, still holding onto his arm.

Lott, perplexed, protested, "When did I ever scold you?"

Morgan continued to nibble lightly, her playful demeanour evident. After a few moments, she released him, satisfied with her playful act.

Lott, though initially surprised, couldn't help but smile at Morgan's antics. Their bond, strengthened through their trials, was evident in these moments of affection and understanding.

As they continued to enjoy their victory, both Lott and Morgan knew that their journey was far from over. The battles fought and won were only part of the larger struggle ahead. For now, they allowed themselves a brief respite, savouring their hard-earned triumph and their connection.
