Chapter 9 - The Rats Bender

I decided to leave the restaurant, my mind focused on the task I had on hand. I had a plan to use the mutated rats to lure out the mutated cats, and I was determined to make it work somehow.

I traced my way back to the alley I had passed before, my eyes scanning the ground for any sign of the fat mutated rats. As I walked, I reached into my backpack and pulled out the meat I had found in the restaurant fridge. I had chosen the most pungent and rotten ones, hoping to use them to lure the rats out of their hiding places.

As I entered the alley, I slowed my pace, my senses on high alert, as I carefully observed my surroundings. I knew that the rats should be nearby, hiding in the shadows or scurrying through the sewers. I saw them once before, so I am sure they might not be far from this location.

I took a deep breath, my nose twitching as I caught the scent of rotten garbage.

I began to move slowly through the alley, my eyes scanning the ground for any sign of movement. I held out the meats, waving them back and forth in the hopes of attracting the rats. At first, there was nothing, just the sound of my own footsteps echoing off the walls was the only thing I could hear.

But then, I saw a flicker of movement out of the corner of my eye. I turned to see a pair of beady eyes staring back at me, a twitching nose and a pair of razor-sharp teeth. The rat was the size of an ordinary cat, fat and meaty, its tail shining like a steel, its fur dark and dirty, giving off a menacing feeling, it was clear that it was mutated.

I held my breath, as I began to get nervous. I knew that I had to be careful, that one wrong move could send the rat scurrying for cover. I took a slow step forward, holding out the meat in a gentle gesture.

"Come on, little guy," grinning creepily like a kidnapper trying to get his victim, I wave the rotten meat gently, trying to tempt the rats.

"I've got something for you."

The rat took a step forward, its eyes fixed on the meat. I could see the hunger in its eyes, the desperation that drove it to scavenge for food in this desolate landscape started to blur its small brain to give in to my temptation.

And then, in a flash, the rat snatched on the meat in my hand, devouring it with a ferocity that was almost frightening. I watched the rat's movement in surprise.

'What are you?? speedster?'

But I threw the stupid thing at the back of my head, as I had to stay on a plan, and after seeing the rats reaction, I knew my plan was not impossible, Thus a devious smile slowly formed in my face.

I began to reach into my backpack and pulled out a bigger chunk of meat, this time I was going to use the bigger meat to lure more rats.

I moved slowly and deliberately, using the almost rotten and pungent meat, which was bigger than the recent one, to lure more rats to the vicinity of the restaurant. This time, I used a different approach than before. Moving carefully so as not to startle them, I begin to take a little more distance than before, so I can keep the meat in my hand from getting snatched by these rats.

As I moved, I could feel the eyes of the rats in the surrounding area on him, their beady little gazes fixed on the meat in his hand. I knew that they were hungry, Thus I will exploit their hunger to control them.

With an enchanting smile, I began to wave the meat in my hand patiently, and started to make a threatening gesture to make them become vigilant to him.

'Better to be careful rather than sorry later, I can't underestimate these little "chef", and made them think I am an easy target here'

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I had successfully lured a group of 10 or 12 mutated mice to the spot I had in mind. They were gathered around me like a beggar that was attracted to free food, their eyes fixed on the meat, their noses twitching as they sniffed the air, feeling impatient to devour.

With a shrewd smile, I threw away the big chunk of meat, watching as the rats scrambled to get a piece of it. I knew that this was the moment of truth, I believe with this group of juicy rats, the mutated cats hiding in the city would soon lose their patience and show their appearance to get some pieces of the juicy rat booties to gnaw.

I turned and ran back to the abandoned restaurant, my heart pounding faster, feeling the excitement which slowly began to build up within.

I burst through the door, racing up the stairs to the veranda where I had smoked before. I reached the railing, my eyes scanning the rooftops and alleys below, waiting to see if my plan had worked.

As I stood there, I could feel the tension building inside me. I knew that this was it, that this was the moment when everything would come together as I planned, or all the pictures about my plan are going to the drain.. I took a deep breath, my eyes focused to observe the surrounding alleys once again, waiting for the first sign of the appearance of the creature.

And then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw it. A glimpse of a flash of fur and shining eyes, as a mutated cat emerged from the shadows. My heart skipped a beat as I realized that my plan had worked, the mutated cats finally had taken the bait.

I leaned forward, my eyes fixed on the mutated cat, and observed it carefully.

Unlike the normal cat, this one is bigger, the same size as a husky.

Sharp claws Protruding from its paw, crimson dark, looking threatening, the glowing eyes contained unbridled greed and excitement, as it began to stalk its prey.

I knew that this was it, that this was the moment when everything would change.

my eyes lit up as I began to think about the next step of my plan. I knew that I needed to find a way to lure the mutated cats to head to the supermarket, and he had the thing in mind on what it could be.

making my way back into the first floor. I walked down the stairs with a hurried step, as it started echoing off the walls.

Upon reaching the first floor, I made my way to the food storage area. Pushing the steel door, I entered and began scanning the shelves for what I needed.

And then, I saw it. A whole lamb's carcass, already spoiled hanging by a meat hook in one corner. My eyes lit up as I gazed upon the carcass, already imagining the possibilities.

But, as I stood there, I suddenly became troubled. How am I going to drag this carcass closer to the nearby supermarket vicinity? It was heavy, and I knew I couldn't carry it on my own.

'I mean I can carry it if I try, but that will take a lot of time, and could hinder my movement too…and judging by the mutated creatures reaction after seeing this disgusting meat, I couldn't imagine what they will do to me..'

My brain began to churn as I began to think of possible solutions. And then, my eyes landed on a small, fragile string lying nearby. It wouldn't serve any purpose for my plan, but...

My eyes lit up as an idea formed in my head.

With newfound determination, I headed out of the kitchen, making my way to the hardware store. I knew an item that could be a game changer in my current situation, the steel wire.

As I walked, my mind raced with new possibilities. I could almost see my plan slowly all coming together - the mutated cats, the lamb's carcass, and the steel wire. It was somewhat a foolish and silly plan, but I was willing to take the gamble and test the water.

Leaving the restaurant, I began making my way to the nearby Hardware store that I know. But just as I was about to leave, a screeching and creepy purring-like sound echoed through the alley, sending shivers down his spine.

At this moment, I began to remember the spot where I lured the rats, and a sense of foreboding washed over me. Something was happening between the mutated rats and the mutated cats I saw before.

As my curiosity got the better of me. I began to turn towards the source where the noise came from, as my heart raced with anticipation.

When I arrived at the spot, I was surprised and flabbergasted by what I saw. The group of mutated rats that I lured had grown into a colony, and the mutated cats were now struggling to fight them off. The air was thick with tension, and I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end.

But that was not all. While I was still standing in shock, I heard a noise not far away, and as I turned to look, I saw a looming shadow of more mutated cats coming into the herd's direction. The rats, sensing the new threat coming, began to screech and hiss, baring their teeth trying to threaten the cats with their numbers.

my eyes widened in alarm as I took in the scene before me. I knew that I had to act fast, to get the wire and finish my plan before things spiraled out of control. Thus, I began to move quickly, moving my legs away from here as soon as possible.

I couldn't afford to waste any more time. The mutated cats and rats were on the brink of an all-out war, and I knew that I had to be ready to take advantage of the situation.

I pushed aside my fear and focused on my next goal.
