Chapter 10 - Narrow

Now having his targets killed, and not knowing if the second target saw him, John started running back to the bar. He sprinted making his scarf flutter more roughly in the wind. He passed by the first target's location. Several police figures were patrolling the building and several people were being interviewed. It seemed no one knew what had happened, someone just found the body.

This was good because it seemed they couldn't find who shot the man. But something worse happened, one of the officers spotted him on his way back. The officer pointed him out and the rest of them started to chase him. He resumed his sprint but had to go a different direction than the bar. If he went straight to the bar everything would be traced back to him, which wasn't anything good. He kept running until he made it to one of the lesser lit up areas. He could lose the officers.

It got darker the further he went. The officers, now on the roofs, seemed to stop following him. Knowing now that he was free to go he headed back to the bar. Jumping across buildings, John thought for a moment. 'If the cops had really stopped chasing him, what if they were planning something else?' This made him stop. What if the cops were planning an ambush? How could he prepare?

John continued with this thought but decided that he would still head to the bar. He eventually made it to the bar's roof, with some hesitance. He opened the roof door and went back down the steps. John unlocked the 1st room door and went back to room 3. He changed the outfit back to his normal one. He took the rifle apart and put it back into the case, along with the outfit. He walked back downstairs to see the officers that were chasing him. They were interviewing everyone at the bar.

But there was one prominent officer that caught John's eye. The officer had his same black hair, a more bulky figure, and a nasty scar covering his eye. It was John's brother. He thought that Luis was a scholar not a cop. This was a weird inconvenience, his brother was now trying to find someone, which was John, and arrest him.

Luis seemed to spot John, and headed over to him. 'Shit! Why is he coming over here?' He tried to go but Luis grabbed his hand. "Hey, we need to interview you." Luis said in a stern tone. It seemed he didn't recognize John. "Why?" He asked, trying not to sound too suspicious. "Were doing checks on everyone who had time." He said not revealing too much. "Time to do what huh?" He sounded sarcastic, and inquisitive. "How- nevermind, you seem calmer than the rest. There was a murder down Wetant street."

John with subtle hesitance said, "That street is decently far away. Why do you think anyone here did it?" Luis thought for a moment. "Because based on the estimated time of death, only someone here or at the party could. And no one at the party went up there." That was flawed evidence. No matter what anyone could be lying. And the party was full so anyone could have left without being seen.

"What about the buildings next to it? What about them?" John questioned. "No one lives in those buildings, for at least a mile or two." Welp, that wasn't great. He was now trapped in a corner and didn't have an alibi. The most John could do was claim he was in his room asleep. But his worries became relief as Luis spoke. "I won't press you since you don't seem to know what's going on. Just know to be on the lookout, and report to me if you see anything." He sighed and went to give Luis a handshake. "Well, it was a pleasure to meet you." Luis shook hands with John. "It was nice meeting you as well."

They broke free from each other, and Luis walked off. He gathered the rest of his men and they all left the bar. John let out one more sigh, and rubbed his ring around his finger, leaving a red mark. He turned around to see the group walking towards him. "John, that was a little close. Did he ask anything or make assumptions?" Albert asked hastily. "No, but I did seem to make a good impression on that officer." He told them half heartedly. 'If they knew he was my brother they might think I'm a snitch or they would kill me right here.' "That was the chief. But if you made a good impression then that's better for us."

The group then walked away. But one of them, who wasn't Albert like every other time, gave him a thumbs up. That lifted his spirits a little bit. He started walking back to his room, up the stairs, passing all other 50 rooms. He made it to his room 3, opened the door and sat on his bed. He just realized that over the days he has been wearing the same outfit. Without washing it. 'This smells so bad. I'll take it to the cleaners tomorrow, or when I wake up.'

He looked around the room then to his coat pocket, he remembered all of the things that were stashed in there. He pulled out the jar of spiders and the potion. Both of these things he didn't know if he needed. But he set them down on top of the rifle case, now on the floor, and lowered himself into bed. Falling asleep as the sun came up.
