"Enkidu, if I had lips, I would kiss you," I said.
Why was I saying that? Because, while Gugalanna managed to break the walls I made and Uruk's wall, it still couldn't enter the city itself as as golden chains covered its body, holding it back from entering the city itself.
Meanwhile, I was in my rock element and was holding back the pieces of the broken walls from falling down on the city. I sadly couldn't stop all of them since I wasn't fast enough and some managed fall inside.
I tried my best to ignore how some voices and screams went quiet and focus on the enemy in front of me.
Raising the pieces higher in the air, I threw them all at Gugalanna as strong as I could.
I don't know why I thought that woild work after seeing Gilgamesh's own attack do barely anything, but I had to do SOMETHING!
Surprisingly, the attacks managed to make it take a step back. Enkidu's chains vanished and he landed beside me, looking a little out of breath with his eyes glowing gold.
"Can you slow it down?" He asked me.
"You're asking ME?!" What the hell did he want me to do.
"Those wings are mostly for show," Enkidu said looking at Gugalanna's feet. "It hardly has the ability to fly without exposing itself to Gilgamesh or effecting heaven in one way or another. I highly doubt Inanna's pet would attack its owners domain."
He has a point.
Raising my hands, I focused on the ground under Gugalanna and tore apart right under the giant bull.
Gugalanna's body dropped slightly, but it was so big that I only managed to make it sink to the knees.
Still, that was better than nothing.
But my relief didn't last as that thing's eyes glowed brightly as it roared upwards to the sky. The dark clouds in the sky began lighting up before lighting started falling from the sky. It's as if the clouds themselves were attacking the city.
"For the love of-!" I groaned out as a lightning bolt began attacking houses and fires began spreading out.
"I-I'll protect the people! See what you can do about that thing!" I said to Enkidu before changing to my water element and I began running towards where the fires began.
Why did I stutter? I didn't have any high hopes that I would do much against Gugalanna but I still wanted to do something. Anything.
The chains of heaven gave me a single nod as it turned back to the bull. I reached the area were many houses were either destroyed or on fire.
I turned to the nearest, flaming house when I heard a scream and I immediately doused it in water.
I tore the wooden door open and found a man trapped there. "Go!" Was the only thing I said to him before I turned back to the other houses.
The second house was, to my sadness, empty of life. There was just a couple of dead bodies that were crushed under some rubble.
"Shit! Shit! SHIT!" I yelled out as I looked at the rest of the fires and had an idea.
I turned to my fire element and focused, and soon enough, the fires left the houses and began floating in the air before they went out with nothing to burn.
The universe didn't want to give me a break as a lighting bolt crashed into one of the larger houses and sent rubble flying everywhere.
Acting as quickly as I could, I turned to my rock element and stopped the rubble from falling on anyone.
But, I wasn't fast enough to stop all of them, and one of them smashed into a woman that was running away and didn't see the rubble coming over. A sickening crunch was heard and blood splattered where that woman used to be.
DAMMIT!" I yelled as I've reached my breaking point. I threw the rubble I was holding in the air away and held my hands towards the far end of the city. I moved my hands in opposite directions and moved the houses apart, making a clear straight way for the people to move.
"Get out of here and pick everyone who needs help!" yelled at them and looked back at the battle.
Gugalanna was still stuck where I left him, surprisingly. Golden chains surrounded that thing's neck and horns, as if attempting to choke it or break its neck. Blasts of golden energy would rain from the sky and strike the bull, showing that Gilgamesh was attacking
"Dammit!" I said for the thousandth time just today. "That thing is too tough. If we want to hurt it we need something strong or to make it weaker!" I thought of telling Gilgamesh to use Ea, That was the perfect time. But that damn thing was too close to the city and a weapon of Ea's magnitude would no doubt-
"Wait... weaken it?" I said to myself as a thought came to my head.
It's it's a long shot. A seriously long shot. But, it actually has the chance of working. And it's the only way for me to actually be useful here!
With my mind set, I took a deep breath and began running towards the battle.
It wasn't long to reach it and see Enkidu and Gilgamesh standing side by side.
Gilgamesh looked out of breath as well and there was some sweat on his brows.
Enkidu was the same but what was really concerning was that there was a few cracks over his body.
"Zack, what are you doing here?" Enkidu was the first to notice my presence.
"Where is that thing's heart?!" I asked, not bothering to answer his own question,
Enkidu looked confused for just as second before pointing at the chest area.
Probably should have suspected that myself but i didn't care.
I turned to my wood element and held my hand upwards.
Slowly, a seed appeared in my hand but it kept getting larger and sharper than a normal seed, I also kept altering its nature.
I kept at it until it reached the size of a spear.
I turned to my wind element and held the seed-spear tightly as I left the ground and flew under Gugalanna.
Holding the seed-spear and pointing it at the chest, I threw it with all my strength right where I believed the heart was.
The seed-spear went through the clouds covering the bull's body, but I didn't know it it struck its target or not. I can only hope it did.
I didn't have time to check as Gugalanna finally broke its feet off the ground and tried to squash me with one of its colossal hooves. Since I was in my wind element, the my body disappeared just as the foot touched me and struck the ground.
My body reformed from the wind nearby and I flew away back to Gilgamesh and Enkidu.
"Please work. Please work. Please work. Please work." I couldn't help but keep repeating like a form of mantra.
The Bull took a step back and glared at us. What I did seemed to have no effect on it whatsoever and I was devastated.
However, much to our surprise, it started shaking its head, almost like it was feeling a headache or confused. Then, much to my relief, its body started twitching.
What happened next surprised even me. Gugalanna's body began twitching and it even took a couple of steps back. Something seemed to be moving under the clouds covering its body.
The clouds themselves actually started getting thinner and thinner until they revealed that Gugalanna's body was covered in tree roots now, all of which were still growing and and covering its body.
One of the roots was larger than the others. It had a sharp pointy tip, almost like it was carved, and it was pointing upwards, raising over Gugalanna's body.
The Bull stopped moving completely and the roots stopped growing. The biggest root, much to my shock, began shinning in various, rainbow-like colors.
"Oh, no," I said, realising what that glow meant as it got stronger and stronger.
Being in my wind element, I flew straight towards the large, glowing branch, Grabbing it and holding tightly, I fore it out of the rest of the roots and held it over my head as its glow kept getting stronger.
I flew upwards and threw the branch as far as I could from the city. Just as I expected, the branch EXPLODED in a flash of light.
However, I didn't care about that as I turned to Gilgamesh and Enkidu before yelling. "Hurry up and attack! It's weak now"
"It's gone," Enkidu cut me off as he walked closer to Gugalanna. "Zack... I don't know what you did, but it's gone now," he said again.
I looked closer and realised that Gugalanna's eyes were empty. They were pitch-black now without a hint of their previous sapphire color.
I was wondering why Gugalanna didn't drop but then noticed that the roots all over its body were stopping its knees from bending.
"What was that, tree?" Gilgamesh asked me as he looked over the empty husk that was Gugalanna. "I... it was an accident?" That was literally the only response I could give at the moment as I landed besides them. I myself don't completely understand what happened.
"I want a proper explanation later, Tree" Gilgamesh said before looking back at the city. "For now, we shall see about the city's state. Go see those forest mongrels you brought up."
A part of me was furious that I didn't think of the forest nomads until now. Honestly, I was tired. Not physically, but mentally. Those were a very hectic last few hours. I just nodded to Gilgamesh and started walking towards the forest nomad section. I passed a lot of rubble and burned houses and I tried my best to ignore them.
The city was so beautiful and lively just yesterday. But, now, it was filled with dread and lots of dead bodies.
I kept telling myself that I couldn't have saved them all even if I tried. The city was too wide and Gugalanna's damage was everywhere.
I wasn't omnipresent. I reached the forest nomad domain and, just as I dreaded, it was also a mess. The houses were shaken up.
The trees that were the ceiling looked completely burned, probably struck by one of the lightning bolts, and there were a few few families mourning some dead bodies.
I saw a familiar woman holding a baby while crying over a large pile of rubble.
(Isn't that Hesha?) I thought. My eyes widen in horror as I started putting two to two together. (Oh, no... nonononono!)
I ran over to the crying woman and turned to my rock element. With a wave of my hand, the pile of rock moved and I was hoping with all my heart that I wouldn't..... See Baraka's dead body crushed under the rocks.
From the start, I knew that battle would be hell And I was right.
