Chereads / Douluo Dalu: Coaxing Xiao Wu's Spirit Ring / Chapter 57 - The Beginning of Shrek's Defeat

Chapter 57 - The Beginning of Shrek's Defeat

"Seems like you're not that great after all. A beast spirit master losing in strength to a tool spirit master like me, who's at a lower level than you." Lan Si sneered, his hand increasing its pressure.

Crack!

The ground beneath Dai Mubai cracked, and he fell to one knee.

"Damn it, how can this guy be so strong?" Dai Mubai gritted his teeth, cursing silently. He knew he couldn't continue like this. Suddenly, a burst of bright white light flared up; his Evil Eyes turned white, and the first of his three spirit rings shone brightly, forming a white shield around him.

"First spirit ability, White Tiger Protective Barrier!"

The white shield expanded outward. Lan Si smirked, withdrawing his arm and using the rebounding force of the shield to retreat several meters.

He raised his right hand, and his first yellow spirit ring lit up. A green lotus transformed into eight blades, each over half a meter long. With a series of swift whirling sounds, the eight blades shot straight toward Dai Mubai.

The blades glowed with a strange greenish-white hue, a result of the special spirit power generated by the Sacred Universe Technique.

This was precisely what he had been waiting for. Dai Mubai's first spirit ability, the White Tiger Protective Barrier, provided defensive power only when the white shield appeared. Once it dissipated, the ability's effect diminished.

Lan Si could have easily defeated Dai Mubai before he could use his spirit abilities by relying on the exceptional speed granted by the fourth layer of the Sacred Universe Technique. However, he chose to engage in a pure spirit master combat style.

In a month, the Emperor Team and the Shrek Team would inevitably clash, which would be Lan Si's main battleground.

The cultivation of spirit masters is closely tied to their mental state. Shrek Academy's teaching philosophy creates an atmosphere where "we are all monsters," fostering an invincible mindset. They may think they might lose to older spirit master teams but would never admit defeat to peers of the same age.

But everything has its pros and cons.

This extreme training method works if Shrek Academy progresses smoothly, with rapid improvement in cultivation. However, if they lose, they will fall into despair.

Since Lan Si had come to the Douluo Continent and chosen Qian Renxue, he wouldn't allow the original tragedy to repeat itself, where the continent became a breeding ground for the Tang family.

Therefore, in the future, Shrek—except for his "little kitten"—would be his enemy. Currently, with Tang Hao lurking in the shadows, Lan Si couldn't make a move against the Shrek Six Monsters.

However, Lan Si could shatter their sense of invincibility.

He intended to crush Shrek in one blow, leaving them no chance for a comeback.

Therefore, he decided not to expose his second martial soul or external spirit bone prematurely and preserved his strength.

If he revealed his flashing skill too early now, Shrek would become wary. Furthermore, a mere Dai Mubai wasn't worth using the flashing skill.

Seeing Lan Si's spirit ability, Dai Mubai was stunned. He couldn't help but think of Tang San's Zhuge Divine Crossbow.

Without any hesitation, Dai Mubai's eyes fused into a single pupil, and his third spirit ring shone with crystalline purple light.

His third spirit ability, White Tiger Vajra Transformation, was activated. After his martial soul was attached, Dai Mubai transformed again. His body swelled, muscles bulged, black stripes appeared on his skin, and his tiger claws grew even larger, with bright silver hooks gleaming on them.

Back when Tang San killed the Man-Faced Demon Spider, he demonstrated the power of the Zhuge Divine Crossbow to the Shrek team. Hidden weapons rely on the element of surprise; without preparation, Dai Mubai would never have withstood the Zhuge Divine Crossbow.

Now, facing the incoming blades from Lan Si, Dai Mubai didn't believe their power would be inferior to the Zhuge Divine Crossbow, so he used his strongest spirit ability, aiming to break the blades with his sharp tiger claws.

Clang! Clang!

A grating sound of metal clashing filled the air as the lotus blades collided with Dai Mubai's tiger claws. Although deflected, the impact left Dai Mubai even more shocked.

The power of these blades was extraordinary, far beyond what one would expect from a hundred-year spirit ability. Although within his endurance, a few more strikes like that would overwhelm him.

Fortunately, he had managed to block them all.

Dai Mubai glanced at the eight blades embedded in the ground and let out a sigh of relief, not forgetting to mock Lan Si, "What? Is this your spirit ability? It's pretty weak."

"Is that so? Since you find it weak, how about blocking it a few more times?" Lan Si's lips curled. This wasn't a simple hundred-year spirit ability; it was infused with the special power generated by the Sacred Universe Technique.

As the level of the technique increased, so did the power of the blades. After advancing to the fourth layer of the Sacred Universe Technique, their power had multiplied several times, far exceeding that of ordinary hundred-year spirit abilities.

Lan Si's right hand curled into a claw, and greenish-white flames surged in his palm.

Suddenly, the blades embedded in the ground trembled, their glow reigniting. They were pulled out of the ground and flew back toward Dai Mubai, accompanied by a sharp whistling sound.

"Oh crap, it's coming again!" Faced with the returning blades, Dai Mubai couldn't help but curse, swinging his massive tiger claws to defend himself. But he wasn't just going to sit and wait; as he fended off the blades, he subtly moved closer to Lan Si.

He realized that someone like Lan Si, with such overpowering spirit abilities, could not be defeated unless he closed the distance.

"Zhuqing, your boyfriend's spirit abilities are too overpowered," Ning Rongrong said with a chuckle, watching Dai Mubai struggle against Lan Si's blades.

"Ah Si rarely uses his martial soul in battles. This is the first time I've seen him use his spirit abilities," Zhu Zhuqing replied, her face slightly flushed.

"Rarely uses his martial soul?" Ning Rongrong was taken aback. Her eyes widened slightly as she leaned closer to Zhu Zhuqing and whispered, "During the Spirit Arena fight, I saw you leave with that 'I Love Eating Rabbit Meat' person. Is this the guy who turned Xiao Wu into a pig's head?"

"Shh, Rongrong. Please keep it a secret. Don't tell anyone. At the time, Ah Si didn't know Xiao Wu was my classmate, so he didn't hold back," Zhu Zhuqing said, feeling like she was telling a lie for the first time. She knew that because Xiao Wu was who she was, Lan Si had hit her so hard.

"Don't worry. But in return, you must tell me your love story with your boyfriend," Ning Rongrong replied with a mischievous smile, her eyes sparkling like crescent moons.

Even if Zhu Zhuqing didn't say it, Ning Rongrong wouldn't reveal the secret. Otherwise, Flender would likely cause trouble for Lan Si. Betraying a sister wasn't something she could do, but since there was gossip involved, Miss Ning, a seasoned storyteller, wouldn't miss out on this juicy tale.
