"This way we can head straight to Alabasta. Let's get ready to leave soon!" Nami said, but suddenly she winced, feeling a sharp pain in her stomach.
"Miss Nami, are you alright?" Sanji, who had been keeping an eye on both Nami and Vivi, noticed right away.
"It's nothing, just a bug bite," Nami brushed it off casually.
However, her words caught Kai's attention. He walked over, examined the bite on her stomach, and his expression darkened. Speaking clearly and seriously, he said, "That's Kestia."
Nami, confused, asked, "Kestia? What's that?"
Kai didn't answer right away. Instead, he looked at her with concern and said, "We need to find an island with a doctor. You need treatment."
Nami waved him off. "It's just a bug bite, not a big deal. We should focus on getting to Alabasta and helping Vivi stop the rebellion!"
"Yeah, Kai," Luffy chimed in, "I've been bitten by bugs all the time. It's no problem!"
But Kai's voice turned stern. "You need to see a doctor."
Then, without missing a beat, he explained, "Kestia is the name of the insect that bit you. Its germs lie dormant in the body for five days. After that, it causes high fevers, severe infections, and can lead to myocarditis, arteritis, and encephalitis."
He paused, letting his words sink in, then continued with a heavy tone, "If you don't get treatment within five days, Nami, you'll die. That's why it's called the Five-Day Sickness."
The air grew tense. Everyone stared at Kai in shock.
"Die?" Nami whispered, her face turning pale.
"If you don't get treated within five days," Kai confirmed, his expression serious.
"No way… it's just a little pain," Nami protested, trying to convince herself, but the fear in her voice betrayed her. She looked around at the crew for reassurance. "You guys don't really think I'm going to die, right?"
But none of them responded. Even Luffy's usual carefree expression had turned serious. The crew knew that when Kai spoke like this, he was never wrong. Nami understood this as well, deep down, but she didn't want to believe it.
Anyone would be terrified to hear they had only five days to live, especially in the unpredictable Grand Line, where even finding a doctor seemed impossible without a clear direction.
Panic took hold of Nami, and she sank to the ground, overwhelmed.
Kai stepped forward, placing a hand on her head, gently ruffling her hair. "What's that face for? I said you'll die if you don't get treated."
His calm words reignited a small flicker of hope in her eyes. "So… if I get treatment, I won't die?"
Kai nodded. "That's right."
"But how? We're in the middle of nowhere. Finding an island with a doctor in this sea within five days is impossible," Nami despaired again.
Kai's confident voice broke through her doubts. "I'll find a way. There's always a way."
Nami wanted to believe him. More than anyone else, she trusted Kai. He never made promises unless he was sure he could keep them.
Though Kai's heart had been heavy, knowing how slim their chances were of finding an island like Drum Island within five days, a sudden idea came to him—his Flying Nimbus!
He realized that, given their proximity to Drum Island in the original timeline, the island couldn't be too far. With his immense speed, he could cover the surrounding sea in no time and find it himself.
Determined, Kai turned to Nami. "Give me the log pose for this island."
Nami, though still shaken, handed him the log pose from her wrist.
Kai took it, confirming its direction toward Little Garden. This way, he could return to them after finding Drum Island. Without wasting any more time, he hopped onto his Flying Nimbus, soaring into the sky, turning into a streak of light.
An hour later, Kai was still flying through the skies, pushing his sharp vision to the limit. He scanned the horizon carefully, refusing to miss anything.
"Hm?" His flight came to a sudden stop as his eyes landed on an island with a distinctive round peak in the distance. A smile crept onto his face. "Found it!"
Using the Flying Nimbus to race toward Drum Island, Kai checked the direction of the log pose, ensuring he could return the same way after securing help.
Now, he had two choices: either convince Dr. Kureha to come treat Nami or bring Nami and the crew to Drum Island. The second option seemed far more reliable. Dr. Kureha had an unpredictable personality, and forcing her might backfire—she could refuse to help Nami altogether.
Plus, there was the reindeer, Chopper, who would be important to their crew. With all this in mind, Kai made his decision.
He'd return to bring the crew to Drum Island. Just as he was about to leave, a system notification echoed in his mind:
[Ding, you've successfully checked in to Drum Island and obtained…]
