The door hissed open, and a man stepped inside. "Alright, here it is," he said, gesturing to the lab.
Jacques and his partner Eugene followed, their eyes scanning the room. The man fidgeted, glancing over his shoulder. "Hey, I could get in trouble here. Be quick, ok?"
Eugene nodded, slipping him a couple of Euros. "Thanks, Lou. I owe you one."
Lou pocketed the cash and left, the door sliding shut behind him.
Jacques raised an eyebrow at his partner. "How do you know that guy?"
Eugene walked around the lab, running his hand along the sleek countertops. "We go back a few years. Helped him solve his wife's murder. Lou's been grateful ever since."
"Pays off having connections," Jacques muttered, peering into an empty cage.
"It does if you'd be a little nicer once in a while," Eugene shot back.
"What does that mean?"
"You know what I mean."
Jacques snorted, moving to examine a centrifuge.
