Chapter 35 - An Unexpected Visitor

Days passed in a blur of shared moments between land and sea. Victor spent more time in the water than he ever thought possible, and Nereus grew more accustomed to life on land. They found balance, building a life that seamlessly blended both worlds.

But one day, as they were preparing for another swim, a figure appeared at the edge of the shoreline. At first, it was a mere silhouette against the setting sun, but as the figure drew closer, Nereus's heart skipped a beat.It was another merman.

Tall and regal, with deep green scales and an air of authority, the merman's eyes locked onto Nereus's, a look of recognition passing between them. Nereus hadn't seen this man in years, but he knew him instantly.

"Theron," Nereus whispered.Victor, sensing the tension, stepped protectively beside Nereus.

"Who is he?"Theron stopped just a few feet from them, his eyes sweeping over Victor before settling back on Nereus. "It's been a long time, Nereus."Nereus swallowed hard. "What are you doing here, Theron?"

"I came to find you. The ocean... it's in turmoil. The old ones speak of dark forces rising, and the council sent me to bring you back. They believe you're the only one who can restore balance."Victor's brows furrowed, his protective stance never faltering.

"He's not going anywhere with you."Theron's gaze flicked to Victor, his eyes cold and assessing.

"You're the human he's chosen to stay with, aren't you? The one who's kept him from the ocean."Nereus stepped forward, his heart pounding.

"Theron, stop. I'm here because I want to be. I chose this life."Theron's expression softened slightly, but his tone remained firm.

"I understand that. But the ocean needs you, Nereus. The council needs you. You're the heir to something far greater than you realize."

Nereus felt the weight of the words pressing down on him, the tug of his old life pulling at him. He glanced at Victor, whose expression was unreadable, a mixture of concern and uncertainty.

"What does this mean?" Victor asked, his voice tight.Nereus exhaled slowly. "It means I might have to go back.

But not without you."Victor looked at him, a storm of emotions brewing in his eyes. "I won't let you do this alone, Nereus. If you're going, I'm going with you."Theron's lips tightened.

"Humans aren't welcome in the depths, Nereus. You know that."Nereus lifted his chin defiantly.

"Then I'll make them welcome."
