'Hmm this was so relaxing.' we were in the park, the warm sun on our faces as we went about the relaxing afternoon. Rebecca was running her hands through my hair, caressing my face. 'God this is good.' she had my head perched on her lap as I lay down on the bench. To be honest this reminds me of something, but oh well let's just enjoy it for now. I always looked forward to Saturdays, we spent them with each other going on dates or just hanging out.
"Tobias the autumn festival is coming up. Do you want to go with me?" She asked. Now I remember, this position I was in, she used it whenever she wanted something I was against. She did the same when she wanted to visit my home. It was a bit embarrassing to admit but anytime I was in the comfort of her laps I folded. She made me very vulnerable, very prone to fulfill her desires when I was like this. I really didn't want to attend though. I had a very awful experience there a few years back, now I stayed in anytime it came about.
"Sunburst... do we really have to?" Please say no, I would make it up to her later. "Aww my beautiful Angelic Light, of course we have to. It's the first one we're attending together." She said it very firmly. *Sigh* there was no getting out of this one. I opened my eyes and stared into her beautiful honey brown eyes, they pulled me in and weakened my resistance. All it took were those eyes. "Please love, you know this is the last one we'll be able to attend together in a while." Yes that was true, we were already in our final year of highschool. After this we'll be in college for a couple years and might not be able to meet up for it. "Fine I'll go." She beamed with bemusement then gently layed her lips on my forehead. It was such a warm feeling, anytime she kissed me like that my body swelled with euphoria.
"Do you want to follow me home today. My mum hasn't seen you in a while." I liked the idea very much. Rebecca's mother was very kind, very friendly. She reminded me a lot of Miss Adelaide, they had that homey feeling about them. "Sure let's go. Is your dad in town?" I asked, he wasn't home much due to the nature of his job. "He should be at home by now, he did say he would be in town by the afternoon." She pulled her phone out of her pocket to check the time, making sure that her calculations were correct. Hmm, it was funny, her eyes always wandered every time she was dealing with numbers. They did a little dance, a gentle sway like she was watching the numbers glide around in front of her. "We still have some time, we can leave in an hour."
I turned my gaze to the park, people were enjoying their afternoons. Some were on walks, alone or with there loved ones. Others sat on benches and mats leisurely flipping pages of a book. There were kids all around engaged in various games. So peaceful. But honestly kids these days should be more careful.
A soccer ball came at us, it was fast, faster than I could respond to. My body jerked trying to block the ball, unfortunately my reflexes weren't as fast as I thought them to be. The best I could do was have an arm stretched out, missing the balls trajectory. *Bam* with a sharp thud the ball clipped Rebecca right on her head. I stood up and took Rebecca in my arm while moving her hair aside to closely examine her forehead. *Sigh* thank God, it didn't look too serious, though I couldn't guarantee that it wouldn't swell a bit. "Are you alright love!?" I asked and surveyed that park for the careless perpetrator. "It's fine, nothing serious. Seriously what a way to end our date." She sounded peeved. I grabbed the ball, studied it for a bit and set it beside me, the owner would come for it soon.
Moments later a young boy jogged over, he was quite tall for his age. "Hey can I have my ball back?" He was very nonchalant about the situation. "Sure you can have it back, but I would like an apology first. You did hit my companion with it." I just needed him to apologize to Rebecca and he could have his ball back. He looked at me then at Rebecca, he seemed annoyed and he made it known with his expressions. 'So he is the difficult type.' I've handled quite a lot of them by now, living in an orphanage had its perks. "Listen here young man, if she doesn't get a proper apology I won't be handing the ball over. Behaving rudely won't aid the situation."
He was absolutely livid, he turned to Rebecca but he saw no consolation in her eyes. My Sunburst was compassionate and kind but definitely no pushover. "I'm sorry." He said it with a bit of venom in his voice. I raised a brow at him, "I'm sorry Ma'am. I'll be more careful." He certainly had experience dealing with situations like this. It was probably not the first time he was scolded, his change to a proper response was evidence. "Here have it. Do be more careful and apologize next time you make a mistake." I handed him the ball and he was promptly on his way. "Let's leave Love." Rebecca was on her feat and stretched out a hand for me. Interlocking our fingers I let myself be pulled along.
"We're here. Why do you look so nervous, it's not your first time here." Rebecca asked, puzzled by my sudden anxiety. Although I'd been here many times now, it still left me a bit tense. Especially when her father was home. "Come on." In the time it took me claim my nerves, Rebecca had already walked around the car to hold the door open for me. She offered me her hand and ushered me out. I felt my ears heat up, she always got me flustered when she did this. I felt more like the girlfriend in this relationship, I'm not complaining though.
"Hey mom." "Good afternoon ma'am." We greeted Mrs Semorre. "Welcome home, it's good to see you Tobias. I'm glad you could stop by." Rebecca's mother was a kind lady but she also had this firm edge to her. She was the type to push people out of their comfort zone and encourage them to aim higher.
I remember making a joke about it, I told Rebecca that it probably had something to do with her Mom being Thai. "Is dad home?" Rebecca asked as she rolled up her sleeves to help out in the kitchen. "Yes he came in an hour ago. He's in his room, he'll be down for lunch soon." I made myself comfortable in one of the sofa's, I had a good view of the kitchen from here. There was something about seeing Rebecca in an apron. There were many sides to her, all of them beautiful.
"Something smells good." He enveloped his wife in a hug and pulled her in for a kiss. "Good afternoon sir. It's good to see you in good health." I said standing up the moment I saw him. I was stiff, standing at attention like a soldier waiting for inspection. "Tobias you're here, well it's good to see you too. How are you Rebecca. He asked pulling her in for a hug. "Everything is fine dad. How was work?" "It was fine, glad they gave me some time off. You can sit down Tobias." He noticed my rigid stance and prompted me to sit.
Rebecca resembled her dad in many ways, that characteristic warm, the confidence, the empathy, all that she got from her father. He was a family man, he cherished them and would do anything to keep them comfortable. Yes she was definitely like her father, I was currently witnessing an example of my point. He was hugging his wife while she worked on the food, occasionally whispering something in her ear, causing her to chuckle. Rebecca glanced at them then at me before giving me a mischievous smile. My face was heating up again, I looked away to avoid further embarrassment. I was almost certain that if she had her way I would be in that kitchen with her doing the same.
Lunch was served minutes later, the food looked and smelled great. Her Mom liked to use a wide variety of spices, it gave the food a very rich flavor. I picked up the cutlery and dug in. 'Amazing, even better than Luke's. Not that I'd tell him.' fried rice, kimchi and spicy fried chicken, awesome. Rebecca was almost done with the rice, she loved rice dishes. Her mother definitely had some to do with it. "Are you enjoying the food Tobias." Mrs Semorre asked. "Yes ma'am it's very tasty, the chicken is divine." She smiled at me, appreciating the praise. After minutes of conversation and sharing delicious food Rebecca and I were left in the kitchen to do the dishes, her parents left soon after lunch was done.
"Today was really good, your mom's cooking is great." "Ohh really, you do realize that I helped with it right." She turned to me raising a brow. I cleared my throat, "You're an amazing cook Sunburst." She continued rinsing the plates a satisfied look on her face. She was so cute.
