Chapter 12 - Encounter 12

After listening to Ye Shuya's account, Qin Wei laughed heartily, bending forward and backward. He mercilessly said, "You're really silly, delivering yourself to be humiliated. Listen, what did Su Yao say? He said, 'Who let you come in? Huh?' Yaya, you've been foolish to the extreme. Men with money like that are not something you can afford."

She began to cry in a low voice.

Qin Wei continued, "Don't cry, Yaya, I'm here for you. Su Yao might scold you, might humiliate you, but I would never do that. Look, it's us two who are a perfect match."

She looked up at the mirror, her eyes swollen like walnuts.

"Yaya, throw away Su Yao's clothes. Run to the top floor and throw them off the twenty-story building; you'll forget about Su Yao."

She timidly glanced at Su Yao's coat, which still hung calmly on the coat rack, the sleeves ironed straight by her, resembling Su Yao's cold face from before.

Su Yao's clothes had a peculiar magic, as if looking at them for a few more seconds would make her forget what happened tonight. Ye Shuya quickly averted her gaze. Qin Wei was saying, "Yaya, I can forgive your mental infidelity. But you must get rid of that piece of clothing; otherwise, I won't feel at ease."

She bit her lip, "What if he asks for it back?"

"Don't worry. In the eyes of the wealthy, branded clothes are like disposable trash," Qin Wei tempted step by step, "Be a good girl and throw it away."

Ye Shuya hid the coat in the wardrobe, then closed the door tightly.

She leaned against the wardrobe door, panting, and said to Qin Wei, "I threw it away."

Qin Wei sneered, "Really?"

She glanced at the wardrobe, "Really."

Qin Wei hung up the phone.

The next evening, when Ye Shuya went to Angie's house, her heart fluttered wildly at the sight of the villa halfway up the mountain. Before she could even enter, Angie, dressed in a white dress, ran out cheerfully, her eyes sparkling with anticipation, "Teacher Ye, was there a ghost?"

Thinking about last night made her terribly uncomfortable.

"There are no ghosts, absolutely not. Angie, there are no such things in this world; you can't believe in that stuff," she said.

Angie didn't understand, "But I've seen many temples in City C, with Buddhas and gods, so there must be ghosts too. People worship Buddhas and gods because they believe in their existence, right? Mom and Dad believe in God, they always say God is with us, so aren't ghosts with us too?"

"Angie, that's just a belief, an illusion," Ye Shuya replied.

"But how does Teacher Ye know they're illusions? Maybe it's just because you've never encountered them?" Angie smiled, revealing her eight white teeth, "Maybe one day, Teacher Ye will meet them."

Ye Shuya didn't know how to explain to the little girl. She was an atheist; she didn't believe in gods, in God, only in herself. She used to believe like Angie, that there were saviors in this world who would rescue her from a miserable childhood, but none appeared, not a single one.

Suddenly, someone laughed and said, "Ya Ya, actually, you met one last night."

Ye Shuya was taken aback, and Angie cheered in surprise, "Ah, it's you! Can I visit your house tonight?"

Su Yao shook his head, "That's not possible. There are man-eating monsters in my house; they especially like to eat children. You're so cute; it would be a pity if you were eaten."

Hearing Su Yao speaking so seriously, Ye Shuya couldn't help but chuckle.

Su Yao's eyes gained an extra layer of amusement.

Angie grumbled, "I'm not afraid of monsters; monsters will like Angie."

"Angie, are you the angelic kind?" Su Yao squatted down to make eye contact with her.

"Yes," Angie blinked, "Brother, you're really good-looking, better than any brother my sister has brought home. What's your name?"

"Su Yao," he smiled slightly, "Hmm? Can Angie let me have Teacher Ye tonight?"

Ye Shuya was stunned for a moment, and Angie clapped her hands and laughed, "Okay." She paused and slyly winked, "But you have to give me a chance to visit your house."

He ruffled Angie's hair, "Deal. I'll have my butler show you around in a few days, but only in the morning."

"Can't it be in the evening? I have to practice piano in the morning," Angie looked disappointed.

"That's up to your own schedule," Su Yao stood up, his gaze falling on Ye Shuya. She was dressed very youthfully and brightly today, and her refusal to look at him made her seem like a child sulking.

Angie said, "Brother Su, I'll leave Teacher Ye to you tonight. Remember to have your butler show me around in a few days, okay?"

He nodded with a smile.

After Angie left, Ye Shuya looked up at Su Yao. His complexion looked much better today, his eyes warm, completely devoid of last night's coldness.

He looked at her very seriously, "Ya Ya, I was possessed by a ghost last night, please forgive me."

"What ghost?"

"The illness ghost," he paused, then added, "It always makes my temper very irritable. To make up for it, may I invite you to a movie?"

Ye Shuya felt she had no willpower at all; this man could make her forget last night's tears with just a few words. As soon as he spoke, she was completely defeated, and she was willing and happy to be.

"What movie?"

"What kind of movies do you like?"

"What kind of movies don't you like?"

He thought for a moment, then said, "Horror films."

She chuckled, "Let's go watch a horror film, shall we?"

Su Yao was taken aback, then his gaze deepened, "Are you sure?"

She nodded vigorously, "Sure."

"Alright, let's go."

Su Yao's agreement gave Ye Shuya a small comfort. She couldn't explain her feelings; she just felt it was like a punitive bad taste. This bad taste led her to deliberately choose a Hong Kong horror film when selecting the movie.

Su Yao looked a bit helpless, "I don't understand Cantonese."

"It's okay, I'll translate for you," Ye Shuya said with a smile.

The movie began, and the plot unfolded slowly at first. Ye Shuya criticized the screenwriter of the film, "The opening doesn't grab the audience's attention well, the soundtrack is too ordinary, and it doesn't achieve a unity of audio and visual. Moreover, there's no innovation at all. I can guarantee that there will be a sex scene later. When the plot and actors are ordinary, directors often use several sensual sex scenes to compensate for the box office..."

She glanced at Su Yao and found that he was also looking at her, his gaze so focused that it seemed to her that she was the only one in his eyes. She was suddenly speechless. Su Yao gently "Hmm"ed and said, "Why not continue?"

Her cheeks flushed, "I won't talk anymore, let's continue watching."

Not long after this, a sensual scene appeared on the screen. The actress's fair and slender legs were wrapped around the man's waist, the man was panting heavily, and the woman kept moaning. It was clearly a very ordinary sex scene, but Ye Shuya felt uncomfortable.

Su Yao said, "Ya Ya, you are more beautiful than her."

Whether there was a deeper meaning in this, Ye Shuya didn't know. All she knew was that coming to see a horror movie with Su Yao was a mistake. She now dared not look at the screen, nor dared she glance at Su Yao, as if one more look would swap their roles with the characters on screen.

This situation continued until the end of the movie. After they came out, Su Yao asked her, "Do you rarely go to the movies with your boyfriend?"

Ye Shuya mumbled, "Hmm."

Su Yao chuckled lowly, "Will your boyfriend be angry if I go to the movies with you?"

She should never have agreed to see a movie with Su Yao. If Qin Wei knew, he would definitely be angry. But she didn't want to refuse such an opportunity.

She whispered, "I don't know."

Ye Shuya thought of his coat and asked, "Su Yao, when are you free? Your clothes are still at my place."

Su Yao shrugged, "Keep them there, there will always be a chance to use them."

"What do you mean by a chance to use them?"

He looked at her, casually smiling, "What do you think?"

Ye Shuya couldn't bear Su Yao looking at her like that, as if he was kissing her with his eyes. She lowered her gaze, "Since you treated me to the movie, let me treat you to a late-night snack?"

"Sure."

Ye Shuya came with Su Yao in his car, and it seemed that every time she saw Su Yao, she could see his driver, Xiao Zhang. Su Yao said to Xiao Zhang, "You can go back and rest."

"Mr. Dani said that the third young master shouldn't drive."

Su Yao pointed at Ye Shuya, "She can drive."

"Huh? Me?"

Her driver's license was real, and she could indeed drive, but driving this Bentley Mulsanne, she was really worried. It was as if a poor person one day carried a Hermes bag worth hundreds of thousands, walking on the road for fear of being robbed or dirtied, not knowing whether it was the person carrying the bag or the bag carrying the person. She thought she could never adapt to the life of the rich, just like this car that was terrifyingly expensive.

Su Yao said on the side, "Ya Ya, have you ever played bumper cars?"

"The bumper cars in the amusement park?"

"Mm-hmm."

"I've played once."

He curled the corners of his lips and smiled, "Just relax, use the mindset you have when driving bumper cars."

She clicked her tongue, "Su Yao, it's not the same! If I crash it, I can't afford to compensate."

"No one will ask you to compensate. I have other cars, it doesn't matter if it's crashed."

Ye Shuya suddenly remembered Qin Wei's words, Qin Wei said that for the rich, name brands are just disposable trash. For Su Yao, a car worth eight figures is also disposable trash.

She felt a bit unhappy in her heart, this realization made her very uncomfortable.

Noticing her silence, Su Yao asked, "Ya Ya, where do you want to invite me for a late-night snack?"

As soon as it came to this, Ye Shuya began to ask with great interest, "Is there anything you don't eat?"

Su Yao actually had a lot of things he didn't eat, but he didn't want to dampen Ye Shuya's enthusiasm, "Nothing."

Upon hearing this, Ye Shuya excitedly took Su Yao to a street-side barbecue stall, she said with great interest, "These barbecues are very good, especially this one, the eggplants are fragrant and soft, the chicken wings are also particularly delicious, and there's..."

Her peripheral vision glanced at Su Yao and suddenly noticed that his face looked very ugly. Ye Shuya suddenly remembered that time at the Cantonese restaurant, he didn't even use the restaurant's disinfected tableware. And these street-side barbecues, he definitely couldn't accept them.

She said awkwardly, "Let's go somewhere else."

"Do you want to eat this, right?" Su Yao asked.

Considering Su Yao's situation, Ye Shuya shook her head, "No, I don't really want to eat either."

Su Yao looked at her, and the two got back in the car. After the car started, Ye Shuya began to rack her brains thinking about where there was a place clean enough for Su Yao to eat, but she couldn't think of any place for a long time.

Su Yao suddenly said, "Stop the car."

He opened the car door and jumped out, "Wait a moment."

Ye Shuya was stunned.

Soon after, Su Yao came back, carrying a large bag of barbecued food. She took a look and found that all the food from the barbecue stall just now was complete.

"You..."

Su Yao looked at her, "Don't be wronged, life is limited, eat whatever you want. Ya Ya, never be wronged for others."

"Ya Ya, let's switch, I'll drive." He said.

"Didn't Mr. Dani say..."

He interrupted her, "Dani is just worrying for nothing."

Ye Shuya hesitated for a while and said "Okay."

The two switched places, Ye Shuya sat in the passenger seat, she opened the car window, fished out a chicken wing from the bag, and slowly savored it.

Su Yao drove very slowly, so slow that Ye Shuya felt walking would be faster than their driving speed, she finally couldn't help but raise her head, "Actually, you driving faster won't affect my appetite."

Su Yao said slowly, "... I don't have a driver's license."
