Title: Secrets in the Dark
It had started in high school, that fierce rivalry between Bakugo Katsuki and Y/N Kurogane. Their clashes had sparked a competitive fire, igniting their ambition as they both trained to become the top heroes. Even back then, their encounters were charged with animosity, but beneath the surface, something smoldered with an intensity that neither dared to acknowledge.
Years passed, and both had established their own agencies, brilliantly successful but filled with a tension that radiated whenever they were too near each other. The year was now 2024, and the legendary rivalry was still the talk of the streets. It had turned from competition into a relentless battle of egos, each pushing to one-up the other while their respective agencies flourished.
However, as talented and competitive as they were, there came a time when the friction between them threatened to erupt more than just fierce banter. Their friends, Mina Ashido and Hanta Sero, had been watching this ongoing spectacle unfold, and they had grown weary of the unending tension that hung between their two closest friends.
"Honestly, this is getting ridiculous," Mina sighed, tossing her hands up in frustration during a meeting at a local café. "Can't they see how they're driving each other—no, everyone—crazy?"
"Right? It's like they're stuck in a never-ending loop of aggression," Sero added, leaning back in his chair. "They need to just talk it out. Or… Maybe we could help them."
Mina's eyes glimmered with mischief. "What do you have in mind?"
Before Sero could answer, "HELP!" erupted from the entrance. It was Bakugo, storming in with his signature scowl, only to be followed by Y/N, her expression mirroring his frustration perfectly.
"Can't you two idiots just keep it down for one day?" Bakugo barked as he gestured wildly.
"Yeah, some of us are trying to enjoy our drinks!" Y/N shot back, her arms crossed defiantly.
It was then that Sero and Mina exchanged knowing looks. They had a plan.
With one swift motion, Mina gestured for Bakugo and Y/N to step outside for a moment. "Hey, we need to talk," she said, casually guiding them toward the back of the café where the staff kept their supplies.
Neither Bakugo nor Y/N suspected a thing as they walked into the small, dimly lit staff room where an old storage closet stood. Suddenly, Mina and Sero pushed them inside and slammed the door shut, locking it with a click.
"What the hell?!" Y/N shouted, realizing she was trapped with her eternal rival.
"Let us out!" Bakugo roared, banging on the door. "You think this is funny?!"
"Nope! It's time for some honesty!" Mina's voice rang through the door.
The two rival heroes exchanged glances, the tension palpable, before they both turned back to their respective corners of the small closet. The space was cramped, and the darkness stifled them in a way that made their usual bravado seem hollow.
"What is wrong with them?" Y/N grumbled, her heart racing uncomfortably.
Bakugo let out an exasperated sigh. "They think locking us in here will somehow help. Stupid idiots..."
Silence fell between them, but the close quarters felt charged. Y/N shifted, feeling the heat of Bakugo's presence all around her, and despite the anger swelling inside her, there was an undeniable flutter of something else beneath it.
"You've done well with your agency," Bakugo finally muttered, breaking the tension but keeping his eyes locked on the door. "Better than I expected…"
Y/N turned, surprised by the compliment. "Wait, you think so?" she asked, caught off guard. "I thought you wanted to win against me so badly!"
He frowned. "It's not about winning, you know." There was a rare softness to his voice, almost confessional. "I just don't want to lose to you."
"What if… what if it's not about losing?" Y/N asked tentatively. "What if it's about working together?"
This time, Bakugo did look at her. The intensity in his eyes faltered for just a moment. "You think we could? After all this time?"
Y/N took a hesitating step closer. "Why not? We're both good at what we do! We could lead the way in this industry."
"And if we keep fighting?" he challenged, yet his voice lacked aggression. It was… curious.
The light from the tiny cracks in the closet flickered, illuminating a space filled with unspoke hopes and unacknowledged fears. "If we keep fighting, we just stay where we are," Y/N replied, conviction filling her words. "But if we stop being so stubborn and just communicate? Imagine what we could achieve… together."
Bakugo's breath hitched slightly. It was a revelation of sorts, bringing with it a rush of emotions he had kept locked away. "What if I don't want to stop being rivals?" he countered, but now there was a tease in his tone.
"Then let's be rivals who support each other," she replied with a smirk, her spirit ignited. "Like real heroes."
A chuckle escaped Bakugo's lips, surprising both of them. "You're really something, you know that?"
Before Y/N could respond, the door swung open, releasing them both from their confining space. Mina and Sero stood wide-eyed, astonished by what they had overheard.
"Well?" Sero demanded, feigning a nonchalant demeanor. "What did you two talk about in there?"
Y/N and Bakugo exchanged a glance, then Bakugo grinned, the fierce rivalry morphing into something lighter. "We're not telling you."
And as they stepped out into the light, with a newfound clarity between them, the tension of the past eased away, leaving behind the thrilling promise of collaboration. Their friends watched, surprised, knowing that the real victory wasn't in confession but in the unwavering partnership that was about to blossom.
Perhaps rivalry wasn't the end of the story after all—it was merely the beginning.
