Chapter 2 - Ch. II Fire Hand

I'm Now about 4 ½ years old and I can climb up the steps now so I can explore upstairs without my parents.

There's a room I've never been in and I'm interested to see what's inside since the door is always closed.

I can just barely reach the handle, I jiggle it with my fingers and manage to get it open after some struggle. It's a smaller room, looks like a study, has a desk and a stool. A small bookshelf that has about 20 or so books on it. There's a really tiny window to this room letting in a small amount of light. I look left and right to see if my mom or dad are nearby, when I learn they aren't I walk in and climb onto the stool. There's an oil lamps that I decide to light with a match nearby. It emits more light allowing me to see better in the room, I drag the stool over to the bookshelf and start reading some of the books names.

The first one is 'The War Of Ash', 'The Lineage Of Kings', 'Basics To Magic'. As soon as I read that one I immediately grab it and open it being excited at the thought of learning magic and casting it too. On the first page was of course the table of contents. It read

'Magic Theory - 03

Sub-Elementary Spells - 05

Elementary Spells - 09

Intermediate Spells - 25'

It was clearly a small book by just looking at it but only 4 sections. I flip through to the 3rd page, Magic Theory: It reads Magic is made from a invisible matter called 'Mana' you know the basics in every Isekai or Fantasy world. Although it says how Mana is used to create physical objects and cast spells. 'Mana is pulled out of your body by either saying the incantation or manually doing so. When the Mana leaves your body it transfers into a spell just like how Ice melts or water freezes, or water evaporating, just Mana changing properties into one of the three depending on which spell you cast'

After reading everything about Magic Theory at least for which the book contained I flip to page 5. The first spell I see is called 'Fire Hand' It doesn't have a drawing of what it looks like but I'll try it. Just like it said in Magic Theory you can cast by incantation or manually, but it never explained how to do so manually. I'll have to use the incantation. I read the page and it says the incantation 'May the strength to burn and cook be given to me and make me heat the world, Fire Hand', after reading that I put out my hand thinking it's gonna create a small fireball. I didn't think much of its size since it says it's a Sub-Elementary spell. I say the incantation and nothing happens for a moment... Then suddenly my hand engulfs in flames it burns as if there was oil all over my hand and had been lit by a lighter, yet it doesn't hurt. My hand doesn't even feel warm let alone hot. Is it fake? I grab a paper get off the stool with the spells still going and I waddle over to the desk and grab a piece of paper. I put the paper near my hand and a piece of it browns then burns off. It's definitely not fake. I cancel the spell and try casting it again. During the moment that it didn't cast the spell last time my vision goes black.

I wake up held in Seraphina's arms again. "Oh! Kael is awake!" She yells to someone most likely Thorne. "What were you doing?"

"I uh-..." Should I tell her? What if it's illegal or bad to do magic so young? Eh f*ck it. "I was trying magic..."

"Magic huh?" She scans the room and sees the book. She puts me down on the floor and walks over to the book and reads the page it's on, "Did you cast any of it?"

Before I can answer Thorne makes it up the steps and into the study. "So what happened?" He asks.

"He said he was trying magic" Seraphina responds.

"Oh really?" My dad replies.

I sit there looking at them and remember my mom asked if I had casted it "Mom, I did cast one."

"Was it this one?" She shows me the book and page of 'Fire Hand'

"Yes.." I answer.

She looks at Thorne and they both leave the room for a moment you can hear muffled voices "He... Mage... No!... Agreed... This... Study the sword... Magic!..." After a few moments of them clearly arguing they come back in and Seraphina asks "Do you want to keep learning magic?".

"Yes, I do.", I answer.

"That settles it, he's going to become a mage. Not a brute of a swordsman like you." She says jokingly insulting Thorne.

Thorne looks at me and asks "Do you want to learn the sword?" Ignoring what Seraphina said.

"A little bit-" I say but then get cut off right at the end.

"You heard it first! He wants to learn the sword too so he shall learn both!" Thorne exclaims happily.
