Days pass and people start rebuilding their burnt homes and helping the injured. Luckily there was only 4 casualties, my mother, and 3 others I never knew. Many injured but not too many severely injured. Just simple cuts and bruises, maybe a burn here and there. Thorne decides to go with a couple other swordsman to find where the Orcs came from and make sure they don't come back.
A week later the men return everyone safe and find their hideout with nobody there. Either we already killed them all, or the survivors flee'd. There has been tents set up for those who lost their homes. Luckily for us our whole bottom floor was stone and survived so we had a place to stay while we rebuilt the second story, and by we I mean my father
One day Charlotte shows up with the baby, while I'm practicing the sword
"Hey Kaelion where's you dad?"
"He's inside working on the house" I point inside
"Okay, come with me I need to talk to you both"
"Is that my sister?" I ask as we walk inside
"Yes, yes it is,"
Thorne looks back at us and hops down from the ladder he's on "Hey Charlotte, what's up? Oh is that her?"
"Yes, I came over to let you know that she's growing surprisingly well for being an early born child, and I also wanted to know what you wanted to name her"
Thorne looks at me and pats my back
"You can choose"
Charlotte changes her look to me as I feel some guilt from my mother's death again and stress from picking the right name. I sit there for what feels like hours but is only a few seconds and then choose a name. I've always wanted a little sister and if I ever had the chance to name her it would be this.
"Emma... Emma Greyhart." I say slowly but we'll to make sure they didn't mistake it for something else.
"Emma?" Thorne looks at me "I would've thought you would say something extravagant like Elaria, Luna, or maybe even Aurora."
"Nope just Emma," I restate
"Emma it is then!" Charlotte exclaims "Do you wanna hold the baby?" She asks Thorne.
"Yes please" Thorne Answers
Charlotte slowly places the sleeping baby in Thorne's arms. Just as he has the baby in his arms she wakes up and stares at Thorne then looks around the room. Surprisingly not crying and screaming, from my experience that's usually how it goes.
"Aren't you the cutest girl in the planet?"
He starts to play with Emma after a small time she starts to giggle a little bit.
"Would you care to take care of the baby here? I'd like to be her father from now and forever but being distant from her most of the time would get rid of that natural instinct of me being her dad, but I wouldn't be able to take care of her without your help and of course I can't feed it since we don't have cows or goats in this town." Thorne asks
"I'm sorry I can't do that. Although I can leave her with you two and come over every 2 or so hours during the day."
"That'd work well enough"
At that we now we're living with a new family member. Emma, I helped take care of her but mostly Throne. I was mainly afraid of messing up or dropping her. Weeks go bye, eventually months, after just over a year the village is basically rebuilt but the economy and agriculture hasn't been restored just yet. Rowan, Carys, and I start practicing magic again and having fun, Rowan and Carys have both learn Elementary magic at this point and I've learned a few Intermediate spells. I'm definitely better at magic than swordsmanship unless it's already harder to get better at it. It's been long enough that Emma will probably be able to walk soon. Heck maybe start talking too, Speaking of talking Charlotte offered to help teach Emma simple stuff parents are supposed to since teaching me was quite easy (since I already knew everything) plus Seraphina mainly taught me not Thorne. So soon enough she'll start learning language. Apparently (I read this in a book) Babies develop their brain at a faster rate than on earth, able to comprehend words and remember at approximately a year old.
One day while I'm home eating breakfast with Thorne, and Emma. Emma makes a noise a quiet and faint one but a noise that wasn't crying. Thorne and I look at each other then look at Emma, "D--ad" she says. This would be the first comprehendable word she's spoken. Dad most babies would say Mama or Dada but since she's grown up without a mom and a brother who doesn't say Dada and says Dad she's didn't say either. Personally this is surprising I expected her to be a normal to my old world since she was born early so I assumed she'd grow slower and her brain would grow slower but she doesn't show any signs of disabilities or mental disorders so far. While I'm thinking of this I blink back into reality seeing Thorne holding Emma up in the air and messing with her clearly thrilled by the fact that she said dad already. Later that day Thorne tells Charlotte and she starts teaching her the common language called Fertile Tongue (Most languages have tongue at the end of them to represent speaking). Soon after that Emma starts walking; she can't necessarily walk up steps yet but she can't walk across the bottom floor.
