The chamber around them quaked violently as stones began to crack and crumble from the ceiling. The glow of the runes intensified, casting eerie shadows that twisted like serpents across the floor. Dust filled the air, making it harder for Luke and Ava to breathe, let alone think.
"We have to move!" Ava yelled over the thunderous noise, grabbing Luke's arm.
Luke nodded, snapping out of his daze. The Watcher's warning still echoed in his mind, but now wasn't the time to dwell on it. He couldn't let the power distract him—not when the tower was trying to bury them alive.
Together, they sprinted toward the far side of the chamber, where another passageway opened into the darkness. The ground beneath them shook with each step, and jagged stones crashed down mere inches from where they ran.
"Faster!" Ava urged, glancing over her shoulder as a massive slab of rock broke free from the ceiling and smashed into the floor behind them.
