The clearing was still, the only movement coming from the faint flicker of the campfire as it licked the air. Luke's heart raced as he crouched beside Ava, their eyes locked on the three figures sitting around the fire. There was something unsettling about them, an air of caution in the way they spoke in low tones, glancing over their shoulders as if expecting trouble.
"Do we approach?" Luke whispered, his grip tightening around his sword hilt. His instincts screamed that something wasn't right, but they couldn't ignore the possibility that these people could offer supplies or information. After all, they had barely made it out of the tower with their lives; they needed food and rest before they could face whatever lay ahead.
Ava studied the trio for a moment longer, her gaze sharp and calculating. "Not yet. Let's observe for a bit," she murmured. "We need to know what we're dealing with."
