Ch.3: Chosen One!
Mob0 slowly drifted back from sleep, he felt unnaturally pleasant, as if it was the best sleep he ever had.
His eyes still closed, he stretched his limbs, his mind still foggy from the depth of sleep.
He got up feeling, as he felt the cool moist wind with the pleasant sent of the forest at his nose.
'Wait forest?'
His eyes fluttered open, only to see sky filled with multicolored stars than he had ever seen, glittering in some recognizable and unrecognizable constellations.
He was laying on an open field inside what appeared to be a forest of long unseen trees.
With the grass he lay on emitting a faint, green glow, casting a soft surreal light around him.
Disoriented, he pushed himself up, wincing as the cold night air bit into his skin.
As grogginess come to end, he remembered his last memory of reincarnating and wishing to reincarnate in the world of Momonga before his transmigration to another world, Earth 2138.
As realization drawn to him, he looked around trying to access his situation.
After all that's the first thing a every human does whenever in a not so familiar environment.
After looking around a bit he got to know something about his current state of being.
He was surrounded by a vast, open forest, the trees towering around him like silent sentinels. Their leaves shimmered in the starlight, as if dusted with some otherworldly glow.
A gentle mist drifted through the air, swirling lazily in the soft breeze, adding to the strange, dreamlike quality of the scene.
Mob0's heart began to race as he tried to make sense of his surroundings.
He wasn't on a Nuclear polluted Earth-2138.
He tried to focus again but, he wasn't dreaming—everything was too vivid, too real. The grass under his fingers, the scent of damp earth, the cool breeze brushing against his skin.
'Where am I?' He thought to himself.
He furrowed his brows, at first, he did not realize it.
But slowly his confused faced started to turn pale.
The realization came with fear.
Panic started to well up inside him.
He had no memory of why he was here.
Why is he here?
Shouldn't he be like on Earth -2138, a place where people can't go out with out facemasks and breath freely in outside space in fear of poisoning.
A place where, world is polluted by numerous world wars and is on the verge of destruction?
Where no sports are still alive, only means of entertainment are Hent*cough* Anime and plays actuated in a closed environment?
A world where no motivational speaker speaks of getting out of house and take a long breath to start the day.
The last thing he recalled was wishing to reincarnate in such a place, on Earth 2138.
Wait… Did he really wish for that?
"Fuck…" He swears to himself realizing how important exactness is in the world of complexities.
Slowly, but surely, he started accepting the fact that he was really trying to deny strongly in his heart.
He is already in the game: Yggdrasil.
…
Being reincarnated was what he wished for, but not inside of the game directly.
When he wished for being reincarnated in the Earth-2138, he had known that he may become someone poor, with bad past, physically ill, or just fall directly from the sky.
But he believed that his luck would save him, even allowing him to play the game in the best possible conditions.
Now that he is reborn directly in the game he doesn't need to worry about logging in, focusing on health and earning money for being able to play game effectively.
Heck, he can play the game for as long as he wants to other than the time required to sleep if he even needs any.
Not to mention he is 5 years early in the game itself, he can advance much faster than anyone else.
Coupled with the game-life duration of 12 years he has total of 17 years to play the game and gather as much hidden elements as possible.
He even has time to experiment with the job classes to find the best compatible one with him.
So… Why is he making such a fuss about the situation?
He thought the same and tried to focus on the positive side of the situation rather than to think what would happen if he died(in-game) or how he will earn real life money to buy limited items for events and such.
Not to mention he is in the body of a 10-year-old, thankfully from his 2nd life… but a 10-year-old nonetheless!
Calming his nerves he looked at the semi-transparent screen in front of him, which was one of the most event full reminder of him being inside of a game.
{Welcome to the world of YGGDRASILL, Player. The World Tree is dying. The World Tree which has countless leaves is dying because of gigantic monster who appeared and is devouring these leaves, causing them to fall one after another, until now that only 9 are left. These nine leaves are the previous incarnation of the Nine Worlds.]
[World devouring monster has now continued its advance to the point where it seeks to devour the remaining world which are: Asgard, Alfheim, Vanaheim, Nidavellir, Midgard, Jotunheim, Niflheim, Helheim and Muspellsheim.]
[The YGGDRASILL desired you young heroes to Stop the advance of the devourer and protect your world from this calamity. For this you have to choose a race.]
Following which a new option appeared which divided the race icon in three sections such as: Humans, Demi-Humans and Heteromorphic.
'Heh, what is this question, obviously I will choose-'
But his thinking was cut short as even before he could click the option the screen changed.
[! ERROR!! You have the race Human by default.]
"…"
He thought he was imagining things, or maybe he selected the human option by mistake, so he once again looked for the option of reselection.
Sad of him as he was unable to find anything like that.
After repeatedly tinkering with the screen in front of him, he realized… It's a gone cause.
…There isn't anything like that.
"… Wasn't my power supposed to be concentrated luck?" He said as fall back, laying on the same grassland he waked up from.
Realizing the number of limitations which were imposed on him by this.
He was seriously considering if he was got scammed, but he still decided to be optimistic and reason with the circumstances.
Maybe it's because he was originally a human, that's why it's his default race? Not being able to change it cause he is not a player logging in through a game console but a soul invading in the system.
Because he was a human in his previous two lives combined?
But as he came to think that way, the 'common logic' of how that is possible comes hammering his brain.
Like why does the game gets affected by someone live status?
How is he inside the game without physically logging in?
Heck, how is the game working if it's five years before it's start.
Logically speaking, it should be at the process of its making.
Is his soul directly inside of the game, like an in-game character or NPC?
And how can a soul be invading a digital data which is nothing but a presentation of physical matter being operated through electrical signals?
Or was it his ability from the last life, carried over by him which is, denying the change?
There were many things which were unsatisfactory due to such unknowns, but he decided to stay out to such way of thinking as it is not our field of expertise.
"What can we do other than move forward." He said with a wry smile focusing on the screen in front of him again.
[For every Legend that ever existed a name is needed.]
[Please enter your name, Select a name which will a remembered by the world.]
In spite of what he thought, he didn't get to choose the character customization option getting directly to selecting name option.
'Looks like I will look like a 10 years old throughout my life' He thought not having any hope that he may become grow old as the game progresses.
"A name huh?" He said thinking he can at least keep the name from his last life… maybe with some changes.
[You have selected your name. Now please choose a world for you to start your journey, you have nine worlds to choose from: Asgard, Alfheim, Vanaheim, Nidavellir, Midgard, Jotunheim, Niflheim, Helheim, and Muspellsheim.]
'Interesting, lets choose Midgard. Even I want to see, what the human world was designed in the game. Though, I don't have any high hopes.'
As he made his choice, a circle appeared below his foot. It released some pixelated particles throughout his body and suddenly, his body entered a white room, like those waiting rooms from games he had heard about.
His surroundings remained the same, but a small screen suddenly appeared in front of him. It showed the whole map of Midgard. A text appeared above the screen saying…
[Choose your starting point.]
"…"
If my starting point isn't decided the hell was that then! Was what he wanted to say but knowing it won't be any use he just remained quiet.
As he was starting to feel distrust towards his luck a new screen appeared in front of him.
[Congratulations! You the player to have logged in YGGDRASILL!]
[You have gained a level!]
[Level 0 >>> Level 1]
[Congratulations! You can now select your first job class!]
As the ongoing level up notifications cleared up, he could see a screen fairly different from the regular one's appearing in front of him.
This time not like the regular blue colored one but golden colored screen to show that it is special.
['Congratulations for being the first player to log in YGGDRASILL']
['You have earned a hidden job class!']
'Hm?'
['Please equip the job class and provide contribution in saving YGGDRASILL.']
'!!'
[Do you want to equip the hidden job class: 'Chosen one'?]
[Yes/No]
[Note that it is a permanent job, once equipped, you can't unequip it.]
"So, it is a permanent job which can't be unequipped? It even sounds cringy and unusually suspicious." He thought while he read the job description.
As it was a hidden job not much was explained about it, other than that it provides an allrounder uniform stat bonus. Nothing about skill and specialization of it.
As far the things are going it is fairly right for him to hesitate when walking on an unknown path, especially when he knows that he won't be able to walk back.
'Hah, let's test our luck one more time, hopefully this time it will shine?' He thought casually playing around with his future.
[Congratulations! You have earned your first job class!]
[You have selected 'Chosen One' as your job class.]
[Congratulations! You have acquired 'Skill: Title Hunter'!]
[You are the first player to login. Through 'Skill: Title Hunter' you have obtained 'Title: First Player'.]
[Based on your class you have obtained 'Title: Chosen One'.]
[Level up your job class for acquiring further skills.]

IGN: Eugene Lyn Dragomir Job: Chosen One- Lvl1 (0%) Titles: First Player, Chosen One
…
[Title: Chosen one
Requirement: Have the Job Class Chosen One, Be of human race. Effect: 1. Increase the chances of lucky encounter happening. Defeating opponent higher level than one provides proportional increase in experience gained.]
[Title: First Player
Requirement: First Player to log in and create an avatar. Effect: 1. NPC's will be at least neutral towards you at the first encounter. Any kind of in-game service will be free of cost when used for the first time.]
"Hoo Lee Sheet!" He exclaimed in surprise at the emergence of the notification right in front of him.
Quite unexpectedly after losing his hope in the legitimacy of the wish he made, he unexpectedly obtained a cheat!
And what's this? 'Title Hunter'? Sounds like a skill which gives you a Title when you perform a specific action.
Though he can't just farm titles and stack them one on other. It has a limit on how many titles he can hold.
For now, the limit is one. It may increase in the future. But there is not any specific condition or information given for that to happen.
But that's not the main part, the important thing is that this is only the first skill!
The Job class is of total 5 levels.
Though there is that condition that he can only level up the job after every 24 levels.
Meaning that he will get the next level in his Hidden Job Class at level 25, then at 50, then 75 last will be at 100.
Each level providing one with 1 skill each. The first one is awesome enough to make it worth much more on its own still…
Maybe, next one will not be as exaggerate, but he believes that it will be at least half as good skills there waiting for him.
Moreover, the potential he could see in the first skill itself is enough to shift the balance in the game.
The once he got are just first 2 titles, he believes (or at least hopes) that there will be titles for clearing a dungeon, killing specific monsters, titles for selecting a job, etc.,
By Eugene knows what he has to do for now.
He knows what time it is.
It is the time to level up!
"But before that I have to choose a beginner village for my starting point." He said to himself as he started at the notification for selecting starting point still in front of him.
'Sigh, how nice it would be if I had properly read at least one Overlord fanfic before I died.'
He thought as he remembered how he used to skip the game world arc of ever Overlord fanfics he ever read.
"Let's just randomly choose one." He thought as he clicked on the button of random option.
Then followed by his typing in his keyboard.
The space in front of him slowly rotated, as if it had formed a spatial tunnel.
*Swoosh!!*
Eugene was sucked into the tunnel.
Although the way he got sucked in looked wild, he was still fine and comfortable inside the game.
As he was travelling through the tunnel, he could see the majestic image of YGGDRASILL with 9 orbs representing the 9 worlds growing from its branches like giant leaves on a tree.
The tree was so large that cause of flying on from it he could not even see its truck.
But as the world drew closer only then could he see how large it truly is.
Slowly the tunnel picked up speed and tremble violently, as if it had been hit by something immediately after.
Eugene felt his vision blur and the next second he was sent out of the tunnel.
…
