Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

The room was silent.

Even when he saw Su Man's fearful and wary gaze, the man remained seated.

He slightly tilted his head, his elongated eyes locking onto the little girl on the bed, who had wrapped herself tightly in the blanket, looking like a little ball.

At that moment, the little girl met his gaze and timidly said, "I have a question to ask you."

She was indeed afraid of him.

Zhong Jin lowered his gaze, the long eyelashes shadowing all the emotions in his eyes. "You can ask."

Su Man's small face was buried in the blanket as she looked at the handsome yet dangerous man. No matter how hard she thought, she couldn't comprehend how someone as weak as her could be related to this dangerous figure.

Yet, it was this dangerous man who suddenly appeared, like a star descending from the sky, rescuing her from the hands of the zombies when everyone in the car had abandoned her.

But why did he do this?

Su Man couldn't help but recall the dream she had just had. The man in her dream also exuded a dangerous aura. Though she couldn't see his face clearly, his brows and eyes were blurred but he was also a very good-looking man.

The two figures overlapped for a moment, and Su Man felt that they were indeed the same person.

But could he be the man from her dream?

The one who was filled with mischief, always pressing her for various kisses, yet seemed to care for her deeply.

Su Man was uncertain.

"What are we to each other?" she asked. "Are we very familiar?"

"You are my wife."

Su Man was taken aback, clearly not expecting that answer.

The man was handsome and young, but he didn't look like a married person at all.

Perhaps her stunned expression was too obvious; the man slowly opened his mouth in a naturally cold voice. "We got married at the end of last month, and the wedding was just held last month."

But it had been less than two weeks since their marriage, and Su Man had already run away with his child in her belly.

However, the man's handsome face remained calm, and he didn't mention this matter.

He looked at Su Man, who was wrapped up like a snowball on the bed. Her face was small, but her eyes were bright, clear as the sparkling water in a summer forest.

Yet at that moment, those bright eyes appeared dazed.

Zhong Jin inexplicably thought of the emperor penguins in Antarctica.

They also looked round and dazed.

Especially cute.

She had always been this cute.

The youth's gaze softened, and he seemed to remember something that made him smile at the corners of his lips.

"We have known each other since childhood," the youth suddenly said. "You are my childhood sweetheart."

Su Man was stunned.

"Our relationship has always been good; otherwise, we wouldn't have had our baby so early."

The man lowered his voice and asked, "Do you remember my name now?"

Su Man thought of the name she had called in her dream.

Zhong Jin.

The shadow of the man from her dream gradually overlapped with the young man before her—his handsome face, naturally cold brows and eyes, all perfectly matched.

At that moment, Su Man was dazed.

Unbeknownst to her, the man's hand had somehow brushed against Su Man's hair. He had beautiful hands, like works of art—pale yet long and powerful, each finger distinctly bony yet full of strength.

On that artistic-looking hand was a platinum wedding ring.

Noticing Su Man's gaze, Zhong Jin took off the ring. "This is our wedding ring."

"Can I take a look?"

The youth didn't object; instead, he handed it to Su Man. The ring was made of platinum and looked extremely expensive. Perhaps because it was a men's wedding ring, it had a very simple design that made it hard to see anything special from the front.

However, the inside of the ring was engraved with two names.

Zhong Jin X Su Man.

Su Man froze, holding the ring in her hand.

The images from her dream suddenly flooded her mind, and the blurry yet handsome face of the man became clear—from the forehead to the eyes, then to the nose and lips, all of it was exactly the same as the young man before her.

In that moment, every scene from her dream became incredibly vivid.

There was a man holding her and kissing her, there were moments of intimacy between them on the bed, and there were…

Su Man felt as if she were holding a hot potato; the ring was burning in her palm.

All those scenes she found shameful were all real, and they had occurred together with the man before her.

"My name is Zhong Jin," the man's deep, magnetic voice suddenly whispered in her ear as he gazed at her. "Have you remembered anything?"

Holding the wedding ring, Su Man felt utterly deflated. How could she express it?

She thought she had recalled a little, but those shameful memories were better left forgotten.

Ah, poor child.

Your parents are not exactly proper people.

What kind of proper person would indulge so much?

Though she felt embarrassed about those intimate memories, Su Man didn't intend to deny them. "I remember a little, but it's just some fragments of life with you, nothing particularly important." This referred to how she ended up pregnant.

The little girl lowered her head while speaking, her cheeks inexplicably flushed, and even her earlobes were pink.

"Manman,"

Su Man's heart skipped a beat.

The man slightly leaned forward, gradually approaching, his long and powerful hand pulling down the excess blanket over Su Man. "Why is your face so red? Do you feel too hot?"

It's not that!

Su Man wanted to deny it, but the man continued to speak softly, "Don't be so tightly wrapped."

"Good." The man said, "You'll suffocate like this."

His movements were gentle, making Su Man feel no discomfort; instead, he only loosened the extra blanket, leaving the rest to keep her warm.

The man's actions were familiar, as if he had done this many times, skillfully enough to make Su Man glance sideways.

But at that moment, his hand paused as he softly said, "Are you still afraid of me?"

Su Man was stunned.

The young man, who exuded an overwhelming aura, had now furrowed his brows, his sharp gaze devoid of its usual aggressiveness, appearing instead like a gentle, obedient puppy. The man spoke softly, "Please forgive me. I didn't know you had lost your memory."

The man stroked her hair, pausing momentarily. "If I had known you had amnesia, I wouldn't have kissed you without permission. Can you forgive me?"

She had always said he kissed her very forcefully.

He was changing.

But sometimes, he couldn't control himself.

Especially since she had been missing for two days.

The man's gaze softened, "You were taken away by bad people; I was really worried about you." He wanted to reach out to touch her soft, sweet lips, but he resisted, not wanting the girl before him to look at him with fear.

"When I found you, I couldn't control myself. I'm sorry; I scared you."

The man looked gentle and polite, as if he were someone easy to talk to.

No matter how one looked at it, he couldn't be connected to the man from her dream, filled with jealousy and possessiveness.

But he was indeed the man from her dream.

She believed what he said: she was his wife, and he was also the father of the child in her belly. Yet, Su Man felt that it still wasn't enough; there were some things Zhong Jin hadn't fully said, or even brought up voluntarily.

Su Man was puzzled inside, "Why did I faint outside?"

"You were deceived by bad people," the man said lightly. "Do you remember him?"

Su Man shook her head in confusion.

Was it her illusion, or was the young man in a particularly good mood? His usually sharp gaze was now soft, and as he stroked her hair, there was a pleasant smile on his lips. "It doesn't matter; he has already been locked up."

"There won't be any bad people trying to deceive you anymore."

Su Man felt a bit dazed.

She didn't quite understand what the young man meant. If bad people had deceived her and taken her away, the question was, what had that person deceived her about? And why had she gone with that bad person? Lastly, why did she faint outside?

Every detail, every question, felt incredibly complex.

Yet, Zhong Jin didn't want to say much.

She couldn't help but look at Zhong Jin's left hand.

His hands were beautifully shaped, but the left one was different—it was heavily bandaged. What kind of injury could cause an entire arm to require such extensive wrapping?

Su Man found it hard to imagine, and she asked hesitantly, "Did that bad person do this too?"

"Yes."

Mentioning this seemed to darken the young man's previously cheerful mood.

That person undoubtedly knew him best, understood his weaknesses, and knew how to hurt him and destroy what he cherished…

"Is that person dead?" Su Man couldn't help but ask.

Zhong Jin, however, did not answer her question. Instead, he turned slightly, his gaze sharp. Su Man instinctively followed the young man's line of sight and noticed that the door was not fully closed; a familiar yet strange figure was standing there.

She couldn't forget her.

It was Ning Yi.

The girl with a cold demeanor and indifferent eyes.

The one who had closed the car door on her during the critical moment.

Ning Yi stood at the door, but in fact, she was still some distance away. She had just arrived and hadn't had time to hear what Su Man and the handsome, powerful ability user had been saying when she was discovered.

Seeing the two people inside looking at her, Ning Yi attempted to show a friendly smile. The next moment, she stepped forward, but before she could take a step, a bolt of lightning suddenly shot out from a corner, striking at Ning Yi like a venomous snake.

Ning Yi suppressed the urge to scream, but even so, the lightning showed no mercy as it lunged at her. Several wounds instantly appeared on her arm, and the pain made her feel as though her arm was useless.

She struggled to hide the pained expression on her face and said, "I-I mean no harm."

Ning Yi turned to Su Man on the bed and said, "Su Man, may I come in and talk to you?"

"I want to apologize."
