Dimitri POV
He nearly tore the beach apart looking for the old woman.
After living hundreds of years, he knew not to take unexplained events lightly. Even what seemed like a harmless old woman babbling on. But the things she'd said gave him great pause. Had she been hired by his brother or Irina?
And why couldn't he find one single trace of her?
He couldn't smell another living soul amid the scents of water and sand and fish.
The golden sands stretched out endlessly. Not another soul on the beach as far as the eye could see. She couldn't have walked away in the brief time that Ariana took to run and get him ... but she could have run away if she was a vampire. Stronger and faster than humans, vampires could cover distances in the blink of an eye, and they were stealthy, too.
Circling back to the umbrellas, he approached Ariana. "Now. Tell me exactly what she said, and don't leave anything out."
