Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: Naive Jean

Basically, Emma was just giving them some common sense about medical knowledge, while most of the time she was talking to them about developing their powers.

The students didn't find it boring because she wasn't only talking about professional stuff but also things involving them, like the reality of the mutants, and it wasn't until the school bell rang that they realized almost two hours had passed.

"Alright, everyone. That's enough for today, class dismissed!"

After all, it's almost instinctual for 90% of students that as long as the magical school bell rings, the class is over, and they won't listen no matter how interesting or important the teacher's words are.

...

[Congratulations to the host for teaching Basic Medical Knowledge to a class of mutants. The host receives 21,968 Teaching Points and Basic Understanding of Modern Medical Knowledge.]

"Wow, this is more than half of what I earned during the cooking livestream."

Although the system had mentioned that the more important the person is to the world, the more Teaching Points would be obtained, this was already more than half of what she earned during her cooking livestream with over 6,000 people.

She clicked to receive the basic understanding of medical knowledge, and as the name indicated, it was basic, but still, it wasn't bad for her.

This saved her some time and allowed her to learn the basic use of some modern tools. Though it didn't make much sense considering her powers, after all, there can never be enough knowledge.

"Emma, are you okay? You've been standing there for a while."

Just after finishing receiving the knowledge, Ororo, who was waiting for Emma, saw her standing in a daze and asked.

Emma replied, "Haha, sorry, I spaced out for a second. Teaching a class full of superhumans is something else, even if it's just a regular subject."

Ororo nodded before asking, "So, how were the students? Did they behave?"

"Yeah, they were better behaved than the kids I went to school with. Not too naughty," Emma chuckled and replied.

They then walked toward the canteen. Truth be told, if it's only about a place offering education to mutants, Charles did a good job.

Everything in the school was top-notch, even the food wasn't bad, which was a compliment coming from her after acquiring Erina's evolved taste.

Jean also joined them while they were eating. Apparently, she had made a breakthrough in her project to prove that mutants weren't different from normal humans.

Emma could only sigh at her. If things were that simple, the situation wouldn't be so urgent.

The government never cared whether mutants were human or not; they just wanted to control their power. Instead of creating weapons to hunt mutants, why not create a drug that would definitively eliminate the X-gene, like in some universes?

Despite her thoughts, Emma didn't say much to Jean because the latter would understand this truth sooner or later. It was better for her to learn it on her own.

"I'm curious about something. How much have you developed your power so far?" Jean asked, which also caught Ororo's attention. In truth, they didn't know much about Emma's power, only something vague, like how she could heal people.

This made them curious. If that were all, she wouldn't be so highly valued by the government or considered an Omega-level mutant.

Emma thought for a moment and said, "I still don't fully understand my power. It's an energy... let's call it chakra. It allows me to do many things like healing people, enhancing my physical abilities, and some things you'll see later this afternoon."

After all, she would demonstrate her abilities later in the day.

"Huh, chakra?" Jean was surprised by what Emma called it. "Interesting. That sounds like something from Asian mythology."

Although she didn't know much about it, she thought it seemed like some sort of Buddhist energy. As for Ororo, she took it as something different. "Honestly, it sounds more like energy manipulation to me."

"Nah, it's not energy manipulation. I'm calling it chakra. Maybe you'll understand why someday."

Obviously, Emma preferred a cool name like chakra over energy manipulation.

They finished their meal in this kind of atmosphere. It was really good, and both Jean and Ororo enjoyed it.

After the meal, they walked to Jean's place, as she wanted to show them the results of her work since there was still some time before the afternoon.

To be honest, Emma never thought she would find it easy to befriend Jean. She had always thought of Jean as a typical Mary Sue, always bouncing between Logan and Scott, and even Charles in some universes.

But perhaps this Jean wasn't like the one from the comics or movies. She was colder towards people, but Emma still felt some pity for her.

From a rational point of view, Charles did the right thing to protect the Earth, but from Jean's emotional perspective, it was almost the ultimate betrayal, the person she trusted most altering her memory and shaping her according to his will.

Emma could only do her best to help Jean as much as she could. The Phoenix Force in this universe should be a blessing, not a curse.

By the time she made up her mind, they had already arrived at Jean's place. Jean opened the door and entered.

It was a large office entirely dedicated to her research and work. What attracted Emma's attention was a big desk in the center, full of research papers, data reports, and holographic displays projecting complex DNA structures.

'Oh, now we have a biologist Jean?' Emma thought. Seriously, the Marvel universe has too many intelligent people; it just depends on which universe it is.

"You know, I'm close to proving that the X-gene is just another variation of human evolution. Once I succeed, I'll make people see that we're not a separate species and that they could also awaken their X-gene at any moment."

It was the first time Emma had seen such passion in Jean's eyes, and she thought, 'How could she be so naive?'

Jean, who could hear people's thoughts, should know best how humans truly are and what they hide behind their masks, but she was just this naive, thinking everything was so simple.
