Chapter 75 - Final exam (2)

The magical armor eventually broke into pieces, and Geralt's modified left arm snapped and leaked with an electricity cable. Now vulnerable, Scythe's head was bumped by Geralt's own head, causing blood to leak from Scythe's head.

"How dare a human with no magic like you be able to hurt me? I am a reg--" Scythe shouted in anger.

Geralt threw another punch at Scythe's stomach, causing him to cough up blood. In a last attempt, Scythe summoned a long sharp sword and slashed randomly at Geralt, forcing him to retreat instinctively.

Out of nowhere, Scythe stared at me with a wicked smile and dashed towards me.

I couldn't escape or think, his speed was so fast that it seemed like he had teleported to me. He thrust his sword at me, saying, "If I kill you, there will be no more suffering, haha."

Hyun hee seemed like she was shouting something at me, but at this point, I couldn't pay attention to her voice.

Then, another person stood before me to take the sword aimed at me that pierced through his stomach instead.

"Geralt!" I shouted.

Despite his injury, Geralt coughed up blood but still managed to punch Scythe in the face, causing him to fall to the ground with some of his teeth falling off.

Scythe had an angry look as he lay on the ground. Without thinking much, I jumped onto him and used the knife to slash his face, causing him to scream in pain as blood streamed across his cheek and wound.

"Einsamer, you devil incarnate!" he shouted.

"You hypocrite bastard!" I also shouted with rage and was about to slash another attack at his neck to end him.

He managed to escape in the end by kicking me in the stomach and slightly gashing my right shoulder with his sword. When I got off from him due to the wound, he took the opportunity to run towards the lake. Hyun Hee continued to pursue him, but the men on the roof started shooting laser guns at her, buying him enough time to reach a boat.

He screamed in pain as he leaped onto the boat "You are fortunate that my power hasn't been fully awaken."

The engine sounded, and the boat set in motion, departing for the island in the middle of the lake where the elevator was located.

On the other hand, Yuffie, who had turned invisible, managed to climb off the road and silently throw the men off the height one by one without their awareness, since they couldn't see her. All six of them crashed to the ground, lying unconscious. However, Hyun Hee didn't give them a chance at life. Unable to catch up to Scythe, she instead walked up to each man and ruthlessly crushed their heads with her feet, delivering instant death to them. She carried out the act with a cold, emotionless demeanor.

I realized we were acting out like the masked men wanted.

I diverted my attention from her and hugged Geralt in my arms, while my other hand pressed on his wound to stop the bleeding. He was breathing heavily, and his face had become pale.

"Hang on, don't you dare to die on me," I said to him as tears welled up in the corners of my eyes. Blood dripped from his stomach, staining my hands.

"Where is Yuffie?" he asked, his voice barely audible. He then looked at me and added, "Remember, don't seek revenge. You have no enemy."

His assertive voice and strong aura were replaced by a fragile appearance and weak voice. As he asked for her, Yuffie ran over and pushed me aside, embracing him in her arms.

"Don't be a hypocrite. Aren't you the one seeking revenge? It's too late now to tell me to shut up. Just let me be," I said as he was now embraced by Yuffie, my voice choked with emotion as I fought back tears.

Meanwhile, I turned to Hyun Hee and asked for her assistance, but she avoided my gaze and spoke softly.

"It's too late, his vital organs are damaged."

I remembered that Shan had brought a backpack with bandages and alcohol. So I asked him, "Shan, where is your backpack?"

Only then did I realize that we had left our backpacks at the camp at the third gate. It would take us half an hour to return there.

"Never mind," I said, then rushed to the nearest house to search for any medicine and bandages. The house used to be occupied, resembling a luxury apartment. I went through many rooms until I finally came across one with a shelf storing medicine and bandages.

I packed up these items and made my way back to where Yuffie embraced the dying Geralt, surrounded by our three companions, Shan, Setsuna, and Hyun Hee.

"Come and help me," I asked Shan and Setsuna for assistance.

Yuffie took a step back, her furious look directed at me as if she blamed me for Geralt's current condition.

I handed the bottle of alcohol to Setsuna to apply and kill the bacteria on Geralt's wound, while Shan and I wrapped the bandages around him.

But his condition didn't improve. I looked at Hyun Hee for an answer, and she told me, "Like I said, it's too late..."

At that moment, Geralt reached out and tightly grasped my left arm. He coughed as he spoke, "L-Leave me here. The scenery here is not bad. Remember to look after Yuffie for me when I'm gone."

My eyes widened with fear of what was to come, and I asked him, even though I knew deep down that he wouldn't be able to make it, "What are you saying?"

Yuffie rushed forward, pushing me away and hugging Geralt tightly. "Please don't leave me. You are the only person I have."

Geralt gently ran his fingers through her hair, a smile on his face. Then, gritting his teeth against the pain, he said, "Don't blame anyone for my death. I chose this."

Gradually, he closed his eyes, no longer struggling to breathe, accepting his fate. Yuffie and I shouted his name, but it was in vain. His hand fell to the ground, his body pale and lifeless.

I knelt down, my eyes cast downward as a tear dropped onto the grass. I clenched my fist, repeatedly blaming myself.

If only I had stopped him from pursuing Scythe...

Hyun hee stood beside me, offering no sympathy. Her voice was brutal and harsh.

"Crying won't bring him back to life."

I slowly stood up and looked at the artificial sky, asking, "Then what should I do?"

"Kill him," she responded.

She was right. It wasn't my fault. The one responsible for Geralt's death was Scythe. I would hunt him down until the end!

The feeling of loss was overwhelming, doubts crept into my mind. The realization hit me that the next person who could die at any moment could be someone from my own group. I clenched my fist in sorrow, understanding that life didn't care about fairness and justice. In the end, it was always the strong who prevailed.

If this was how the world worked, then I had to become stronger to defeat these masked men and Scythe.

But my legs began to tremble, and I could no longer support my body as I kneeled down. My forehead touched the ground, and I could no longer hold back my tears. I repeatedly punched the ground, trying to ease the pain.

He was the only person who had acted like a father to me, and in the end, the world had taken him away. How cruel could this world be? Deep down, I knew there was no such thing as a god who cared about fairness and justice. It was just human emotion.

Then, a hand reached out to me, and the voice came from Hyun Hee. My eyes remained closed as I tried to restrain my tears, but my heart beat faster. Even though I repeatedly punched the ground, I no longer felt the pain in my hand. The only pain I felt was in my heart.

"Many more people will die in the future, but you can still save them before it's too late."
