She sat up, her heart racing, wondering who could be making so much noise. She tossed off her covers and slipped out of bed, her bare feet padding softly on the cold floor.
As she approached the door, the voices grew louder. Sophia's curiosity got the better of her, and she slowly turned the handle, peeking out into the hallway.
The noise seemed to be coming from downstairs. Sophia's heart sank, wondering who could be visiting at such an early hour.
"Alex?" She called out, but there was no answer.
She crept down the stairs, her ears straining to catch the conversations.
"...and then I'll take her to the study," a man's voice said, chuckling.
"I'll give you a thousand dollars for one night," another voice chimed in.
Sophia's blood ran cold. Those voices sounded familiar.
She reached the bottom of the stairs and turned the corner, her eyes scanning the room.
